Having a rough day...how did I gain 3 lbs?

Recommended Posts

I'm currently crying after stepping on the scale this morning. A week ago I had lost 17lbs from post op diet and then my banding on the 20th of January. How did i gain 3 lbs ..Im walking 2 miles a day and eating very small amounts. I go in for my first fill the 17th of this month. Im just so discouraged I wanna cry!:cursing:

Many of us gain weight inbetween the time period of being banded and getting our fills. This is common. Please don't be too hard on yourself. Perhaps you need to log your meals and count your calories. Perhaps your not eating enough. Perhaps what you are eating is high in calories. It really helps to write down everything you eat and count calories, fat, carbs and Protein. I put everything into thedailyplate.com. It does a lot of the work for you. Best wishes and hugs to you...

I gained 8 lbs. last night. I am also premenstrual. I also will gain if I have salt, if I am stressed, etc. Also, if you have had any Fiber there can be solids building up, kwim?

Unless you are pigging out (and then journal) realize that bodies are not static.

Holly -- If misery loves company, then I will join you! I was banded on Jan 13 and lost 6 pounds pre-op and 16 pounds in first 2 weeks post-op. But haven't lost anything in last 2 weeks - and even gained back two pounds and then lost one again. I am just as frustrated. II have been logging everything I eat on The Daily Plate.com and have been hanging around 1000 calories. Also trying to do high protein-low carb as I have always found carbs to be a weight gainer for me in the past. I have been exercising some (about every other day) on the eliptical machine but not getting a really tough workout yet. Have to wait until dr says I can do more like weights, aerobics, etc.

It does help to read what others have to say about this being normal when you are in "bandster hell" with no restriction. I don't go for my first fill until Feb 26, but I am going to call today and beg them to move me up to next week.

Good luck to you!

Yes everyone says the first few weeks after surgery and before your first fill are hell...I have some restriction I mean i can only eat a little less than a half a turkey sandwhich and then im full but im still worried im not doing something right..maybe its all in my head..i just want to be successful so badly that I'm worried I will mess up :(..but heres to stay possitive..im gonna do this!!:cursing:

I wouldn't worry about gaining weight at this point...You are in your healing stage..I actually gained 6lbs between my 1 week checkup and my 6 week checkup..I didn't like it AT ALL but i got a pretty aggressive fill and lost 5 of the 6lbs in less than a week..then i got another fill a week after my first because i didn't have enough restriction and i actually lost another 5lbs since that fill..so things will happen for you just take this time to heal and enjoy life!!! Also watch your calories because 600 calories is not very much and your body will go into starvation mode and hold on to everything...You might want to bump up your calories a bit if not now i would definitely bump them up after you start getting fills...Its weird we have to cut calories to lose weight but still make sure we are eating enough calories to lose weight as well...lol

Hope this helps...I'm here if you have any questions..

Sounds like your body may be storing. 600 calories is not enough for you in a day, especially if you are working out. I suggest you add a breakfast, nothing too intense but something to jump start your metabolism in the mornings, even if it is a premade shake.

you are doing great! Kudo's to you for working out already, i used every excuse in the book before I finally started working out regularly!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
