Did the film "Shallow Hal" offend anyone?

Recommended Posts

Let the record show I have been a fat man for more that 40 plus years and I have been called every name in the book.

By the way I thought the movie was a Hoot.

Do people still make fun of fat folk to their faces?

I know in the UK, even with all their "English reserve,"

they can be BRUTAL with their insults

in public of fat people.

I notice that in my neck of the woods,

people either stare a little too long, or you're invisible.

But no one calls names.

I remember when "Shallow Hal" first came out

there was something on CNN about how

over weight people were outraged by it.

But the majority on this thread enjoyed it at some level.

Hmmm...

You mean like this pool scene?

* Warning! If the movie offended you, this definitely will. Don't whine if you choose to watch.

LOL! I'm sorry but this was too funny!!!

I just saw it recently on TV (for about the 3rd time) and I still laugh at it.

Except for the scene where they offer Rosemary

a piece of cake and she takes a THIRD of the cake.

Okay, yeah, fat people over eat, but come on.

Nobody does that!

Anyway, I was wondering what others thought of that film.

It cracks me up. It is very funny. You have to get that it is a over example for laughs. I am sure you do. Thanks for the memory. I haven't seen that movie in a couple of years.

eh...it didn't REALLY offend me. I agree that the stereotypes were a little over the top. The overeating, the breaking the chair etc etc. The main thing that made me cringe was looking at her wondering if that is what I look like! lol I have no concept of what I truly look like!

I agree.....

I don't think I have a correct concept of what I really look like. The girl in my pictures isn't who I see myself as, nor how I feel that I look.

( am I really the fat chick??! Say it isn't soo!!!!!!!)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
