I have a cold....what can I take?

Recommended Posts

I am just 5 weeks post op and I am coming down with a cold.

I have liquid Tylenol and I have tolerated the pills if cut up...

what cold meds are okay to take?

do I have to stay away from Ibuprofen forever?

Take some Dayquil/Nyquil, or Theraflu....something in liquid form would be easier.

so at 4 weeks post op I thought I had a cold and called the doc I was told benedryl childrens liquid and I would suggest the grape and I took liquid tylneol(adult 3 hours after)

then by day 3 I was much worse - confirmed h1n1

i was taking liquid tylenol adult - 2 hours later liquid motrin(childrens) directed by doc to break fever

plus crushed mucinex d - mixed with yogurt

i got the tamiflu but it didn't help at all-

after 2 rounds of amoxicillian and a zpak I was back to work after 20 days

it was hands down the sickiest i have been in my adult life

I gues what I am trying to say is your immune system is weakened so if you aren't feeling well jump on it fast and get your docs input.

You should be able totake liquid meds you tolerated before, e.g. Tylem=nil cold, bena dryl. Do take something to deal with sinus drainage. It can upset your stomach.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
