Hi Frances,

I am 6months preg and this is also one of my concerns but what i plan on doing is getting my carbs from only healthy carbs so as vegtables and fruits cause i know you have to eat carbs when you nurse but thats what i plan on doing cause i have gained more weight with this pregnancy than any of my other pregnancy and its little scary. i have craved sweets during this preg which i didnt with my other babies. i really hope and pray i lose all my preg weight cause i wanted a Tummy Tuck and was very close to my goal weight.Good luck and i applaud you for breastfeeding.:smile2:

I am right there with you. I have not been on this site in months, but got on today looking for help. My daughter is 6 months, I gained about 45 during pregnancy, lost 15 after about 1 week and then nothing. I exclusively breastfeed so am worried about getting a fill. I started bumping up my working out because I'm so disgusted, but now I am actually GAINING weight. I'm not sure what to do. Who breastfeeds and gains weight?

I will swear blind that at least half of my excess weight was unexplained, dont know why it happened weigh gain from my six years of breastfeeding. It never made me noticeably hungier and I was always very good about long walks every day and not sitting around the house when I had young babies, but I just gained and gained and gained whilst breastfeeding.

I never gained a lot in pregnancy either, well under 20lb, and I always between 15 and 30lb extra before I had babies, that's it. Suddenly after babies it was 100lb! I probably put on40 to 50 from breastfeeding and the rest was me giving up and becoming a complete greedy piggie once I'd lost control of my weight and got too heavy to do a lot of effective exercise.

Its entirely possible its the same for you and if you're not gaining, you're actually doing very well.

Hi Jachut, I've followed you since I've gotten my band. If you were me would you get a small fill? I can't explain it, I have PCOS and was eating right and working out but still gaining, but after the band it just started coming off. Now in the last two weeks all of my PCOS symptoms are coming back which is really hard feeling bad with a baby. I tried getting a fill about 3 months after delivery and I had to get it taken out because I couldn't even swallow and there was no way I was compromising my breastfeeding. What would you do?

Who breastfeeds and gains weight?

i did.

i was 250 when i got married and pg a few months later. i had horrible morning sickness from 6 weeks to the day she was born, lost 30lb in the first and second trimester but gained it all back plus another 20 lb in the third.

after i gave birth i lost 20 lb in about 3 weeks but then from then til i finished nursing at 18 months i gained about 40lbs.

my friends had me convinced that nursing would have the lbs melting away but it didn't

i let dd cut herself off and i'm very very happy we lasted so long i just wish my friends were right.

my fear is getting banded (aug 12) losing weight and getting pg again. with all the morning sickness i had what happen if the band slips while i'm pg?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
