Next week I will be able to start mushy foods. My mom (who does not know about my surgery) will be visiting a couple of days. I would like a couple of mushy meal suggestions that I could make that would not raise suspicion in her as I am not ready to talk to her about it. Does any one have any? Also, she may go out to eat for one meal so if any one has suggestions on what I could have outside of the house, that would be great too. I also have my two little boys to feed too, so it can't be anything too exotic. I suspect that if I just make something 'typical', and then put it in the blender, it will raise suspicion.

Thanks very much!

My first question is - why would you not talk to your mother/family about your surgery? Are you ashamed that you've taken this wonderful step to take care of YOU?

Simple ones would be to make some chili or tender meats, mashed potatos, homemade mac n' cheese, etc...

I'm not going to tell you to go off of your scheduled diet, but let's just say i was eating mushies on day 3, and soft meats and mashed potatoes within a week. But follow YOUR doctor's orders and do what's right for you and YOUR body.

Chili and homemade Soups would be very easy to mask... and would be allowed on your post-op diet.

Depending on how daring you feel, you could make a casserole with brown rice or whole wheat Pasta.. if you bake it in liquid it'll puff up to as big as it's going to get and won't expand in your stoma/stomach. The same as if you were making risotto or spanish rice.

You can also do tamales, masa doesn't puff up, it's corn meal, it's as big as it's going to get, fill it with soft meats and you'll be able to easily break away the masa and just eat the meat without raising suspicion.

Breakfast for dinner, omlettes, etc... all very easy ways for you to stay on track without raising suspicion..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
