First Doctors Appt. Scheduled... already worried.

Recommended Posts

But the worry at this point is that the doctor is going to say, "No way, Jose." to me.

My main worries for not being a good candidate are that I am still in the process of quitting smoking (quit in october) and still screw up and have the occasional cig.

I had a pulmonary embolism last January and was told to quit smoking and taken off my birth control immediately and forever. I have had a follow up MRI and all embolus have been resolved but I still worry the fact that it happened to me will make him say N-O to elective surgery.

I also have a little bit of refluxiness, but no stomach issues that have required more than the occasional week of prilosec to sort out. I am actually hoping that the weight loss with HELP with those problems, but for now am paranoid they will disqualify me.

So I guess I'll find out next week at 11 am on the 19th what my doctor thinks.. because that's when my appointment is. He has always been a wonderful and supportive doctor, but I like to avoid disappointment by preparing myself for the worst, and right now that is him telling me it's not possible.

I'll start worrying about not waking up from going under once going under is a possibility.

So to those who have been there, what should I be telling my doctor, and asking him? What do you wish you had discussed with your doctor beforehand that you didn't?

i can't offer you any advice on what to say or not to say to your doc as i haven't even been there yet myself (my consult is on 1/25). i also can't relate to the medical issues you have. what i can say though, is that you are not alone in worrying that you will be told "no". i'm so freaked about the dr saying i'm not a good candidate or something similiar and dashing all my dreams. i wonder if this is a fear a lot of folks have before their appts? guess we will find out as more folks post. keeping my fingers crossed for you and for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
