Long time lurker, first time post

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.I've read your posts for the past several months and have found the info here inspiriational, reassuring and insightful. Thank you all for helping me reinforce my decision to move forward.

I attended a seminar on 10/12, had my first appt. At UNC Hospital on 11/30 and my second visit w/ the surgeon today. AND we set my surgery date for 1/27. I'm soo excited. I have BCBSNC insurance and they approved my request in 24 hours. No preop diet waiting period required. I'm so looking forward to moving forward.I'm excited and scared at the same time, but mostly excited. I'm looking forward to the journey to a healthier me. I have about 140 lbs to lose so it will be a long journey, but I've got time and working on patience! My best to all of you and I look forward to being a more regular poster. Cheers to all!!

Hi and Welcome!! I lurked for a LONG time. Posted rarely and then became more active on here when I actually started the process.

My surgery is scheduled for the 26th and I'm super excited! I am also in for the long haul looking to lose 113. My journey has only started and will be a life time long. I just can't wait to live life as a normal sized person!

GOOD LUCK and WELCOME!!

Welcome to posting and congrats on the easy insurance approval! So many people fight to get their bands paid for--it's nice to hear about someone not struggling with it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
