Anyone out there using Dr. Charles Morton in Nashville, TN?

Recommended Posts

I have done my 6 mth diet and have my psyc exam this Monday. Dr's office says we can submit for insurance approval as soon as my psyc exam is turned in.

How long did it take from approval from insurance company to surgery?

Does he require a pre op diet and if so, how long?

Thanks,

Quinny:cool:

Hi! I'm going through Dr. Morton as well! I'm actually in the beginning stages of my three preparation, but I was told that the insurance approval doesn't take too long. As long as you complete everything on the checklist, you have a speedy answer. It also has to do with what insurance you have. My insurance specialist told me Aetna was really fast and so was BCBS. Anyhow! Good luck!

I have 2 friends who had Dr. Morton. They had great results. I'm not sure about length of time. But I know that for 2 weeks, one had to do partial liquid diet for 2 weeks. It was 2 liquid meals (she used carnation instant breakfast) and 1 lean cuisine each day. This was about 5 years ago and this may have changed by now.

i'm not using that doctor but i'm with that doctors office. my surgeon will be dr. clement. the WLS nurse that organizes all of the insurance information said that as long as teh check list is complete for any insurance (especailly BCBS Aetna and CIGNA) you should have a quick result and could have a surgery date within weeks of that approval!

Thanks for the insight. I had my first dr appt with Dr. Morton and honestly I wasn't impressed by him. He just seemed arrogant. :/ Seeking help for WLS is hard enough, I don't need a arrogant doctor that talks to me like I'm an idiot. But I only have to see him a few more times til surgery, so I'm not worried about it.

if you don't like your surgeon, you know you can switch right? i would tell you that if you really don't like him i wouldn't want to be uncomfortable with my surgeon because we have to see them for re-fills for our bands too if i'm correct? or do all the nurses do that?

Yeah, you're right! I could switch, but would I have to start all over with the dr visit, or would they just transfer my paperwork? I could always email my insurance specialist and see what she recommends. I told my husband about it and said that I could be being sensitive. (I can be at times) Maybe I was excepting some one a little more up beat with a better bedside manner. After all between me and my insurance, we are paying about 20K. That should give him something to smile about right?! Haha! Sorry, now I'm just being ugly.

Yeah, the doctor does the fills.

Gee, I just had my first visit with Dr Morton and he was fantastic. I was nervous about my age (50+) and he was so reasuring and upbeat. Really encouraging to me and reasuring me that he and his staff would be with me every step the way. I am scheduled for my band Jan 2012. Maybe things will be better on your next visit. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
