Pureed Foods...What's good, what's not?

Recommended Posts

I'm almost two weeks out and I will be able to eat pureed next week, starting Tuesday. Any suggestions on pureed foods? Does anyone have a list that that go by? I would greatly appreciate your help! My biggest and only craving I have had are eggs...lol What kinds of cheeses are you guys able to eat? I guess I am just ready to move on to purees...is that bad??

Thanks guys and girls!

I really liked pureed baked Beans. They have lots of Protein and felt comforting. I also pureed tuna with light mayo which I eat a lot of. I tried to puree some meat sauce but it ended up having a very weird consistancey and I did not like the flavor. I was allowed to have eggs if they were soft and small amounts of cheese. I ate a lot of cottage cheese though.

I was on 2 weeks of liquids before the surgery and 3 weeks after so by the time I got to mushies I was like a kid in a candy store. I gained a few pounds, like everyone else, but it went away quickly.

Honestly my dietician said don't buy things just for me, whatever the family has, have that but puree it and thin it out, which in a way is a great idea - You're not going to be spending heaps of something that's only going to last maybe 2 weeks, the one thing I would tell you to avoid eating pureed is chicken, it tastes like chalk lol. Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
