Surgery...
Hi Kayla! Welcome. Yes I am sleeved. I have lost 43 pounds and I feel wonderful!!! I was sleeved on March 7 and by Dr.Jawad in Ocala Fl. My surgery was at Ocala Regional Medical Center. I had wonderful staff taking care of me there. Spent one night in the hospital. Following a negative leak test I was discharged to go home. I was out of work for two weeks. I could've went back sooner but I had to wait until I had my follow up with the surgeon. It has been a good experience. If you have any other questions I will try to answer them for you. You can email me or PM me. Good luck on your journey, I wish you all the best!!!!! Deb

Anyone else go through this????
This maybe( TMI) just curious if anyone else went through this. A week before TOM I drop mad weight, last week six pounds. Now that TOM is almost here, nothing. I drink more fluids at this time to avoid additional Water weight gain. Just curious if anyone had this happen. Thanks for any input on this. Deb

How will I know?
Your surgeon will give you dietary guidelines to follow. My nut was not what I thought that she would be. So I relyed on what my surgeon gave me. From that information I created my menu for the first five weeks by trying something different every week. Now I eat what I can. Turkey, chicken, seafood and some pork. I manage some carbs. And LOTS of Water. I just recently added fresh fruit. Watermelon, honey dew and cantalope. Which go down easy. I eat a little over 1/4 cup. You will eat what is right for you. You will know what is right. Trust me. You will be just fine. Deb

I am so sick of people and their freakin comments!
Brush it off. I do. I get, "Aren't you hungry? What did you eat this morning? What did you bring for lunch? I bet your hubby likes the fact the grocery bill has gone down." Yeah I just walk away and forgive them. They don't have a clue. Deb

Tastes Change?
They way food tastes and smells to me now has totally changed too. SF Jello now taste like pure salt. I did taste a little of cream cheese frosting and it was way too sweet. The smell of sausage and bacon cooking make me gag as does fried chicken. YUCK! So I totally agree with Sasicas on this. I was told by my surgeon that this is normal as many WLS patients experience this. He also told me that food that I did not like I would like. I haven experienced that yet. So everyone is different. Off the wagon, I took a bite of hubby's pulled pork and spit it out
We cooked a pork shoulder in the crock pot with some beef broth,(trust me it is good keeps the pork moist and adds flavor) and some BBQ sauce, minced garlic, salt and pepper. Let it cook for 8 hours. YUMMMMMMMM. Even though I can only eat a little bit. ( Usually my eyes are bigger than my sleeve ) I end up giving it to hubby to finish for me. It is soooooo good. Also since having surgery, hubby has lost weight right along with me. He altered his eating habits too. Win Win situation. Deb

What does restriction feel like?
I hic cup once and then for some weird reason I get post nasal drip. But yes the restriction is there. I do feel it. When I eat dense Protein I only takes 3 ounces and I'm done. I can't even get a vege in after that. Which is fine. Not complaining. Deb

It's been a good week
All I did and have been doing for the past three weeks is increasing my Water intake by 16-24 ounces a day and my Protein by 26 grams. I also changed up the exercise routine a bit. I'm doing more weight training. Nothing special. Just trying to push the fluids and protein is all. I didn't know at the time that I changed all of this that it would create such an impact. I guess it did. So as long as it keeps working I'm not complaining. Deb

Scared in Ocala, Florida
Hi Jamie, I had my VSG done 3/7/2011 by Dr. Jawad in Ocala. I Did have some discomfort. Not real pain. Nausea not a lot. They have meds to control that. Everyone has different experiences at different times. I do not experience hunger at all. I do feel full. I am only 9 weeks out and I have lost 41 pounds and continue to lose everyday. I exercise every day. 20 minutes weights and 20 minutes cardio. I get the required Protein and liquids everyday. I am so glad I made the decision to have this surgery. It has helped me in so many ways. You can email or PM me if you want. I wish you all the best in your decision. Deb

Heparin Bruises....is it normal for them to get bigger?
Mine were in my arm. They started off in my right arm. Then to my left arm. When I got home my entire left upper arm was one huge purple black mass. My right was a little smaller. So I can relate to size and color. It took several weeks for the bruising to subside. Deb

Consistant weekly weight loss
3 pounds a week is where I'm at now. I do exercise 40 min a day. Cardio and weights, bowflex. I don't know what else I can do to up the weight loss amount. Carbs are low Protein is high. Fluids are at an all time high. (80 ounces) I'm stumped. (Not that I'm complaining.) Deb

Has someone commented on your weight loss?
Slim, as I was walking past a co-worker. LOL I just chucked. Thinking to myself, not just yet. I'm working on it. But it caught me off guard. Made my day. Deb
