Eating natural/clean foods is really the best way to go! You feel so much better and it just gets rid of all the toxins that are in your body from eating "fake" food I love it and have been doing it for a while now!

I know this is way late and I'm sure you are over this, BUT ... weighing at different times can really mess up the scale. you can weigh in the morning then weigh at night and gain 5 lbs just from the food and the food you have taken in. its never good to weigh like that because it gets you discouraged. but you are doing great now so thsi post is pretty irrelevant!
  4. I have PCOS as well and have started the journey to getting banded. I was approved by Tricare and did the information seminar on August 4th. I have an appt (pre consult maybe?) with the PA on August 25th. I am really hoping that the band get me on the road to losing this weight ... its good to know that others have had success!
  5. Congratulations on your band!! And on being able to eat soup
  6. Starvation mode is scientifically proven, even if it goes by a different name. But the idea is the same that your body needs a certain amount of nutrients to survive. I say nutrients instead of calories because if you have the correct amount of nutrients calories might not be as important. But when your brain registers that your not eating enough (your stomach sending the signal up to your brain telling it your still hungry) then maybe your brain would not register that you are going into starvation mode when your stomach sends the signal earlier than if you didnt have the band.
  7. I think the issue of being in starvation mode (what your nurse referred to really) is because with your band and the stomach being smaller, it makes you feel full faster and with less food so it sends a signal to your brain saying you are full and fully fed. I'm assuming its just tricking your body in a way?
  8. I am new here also. Lisa, I went to my info seminar this past Wednesday, I think the same day as you! So it looks like we are right at the same spot! I'd love to get to know more people on here for support! I have support from my family but it would be nice to have it from people that are going through it as well!!
  9. I'm sure that I will learn all this stuff later once it gets closer to having the surgery but dang! I'm gonna need to practice some stuff ... I love drinking and eating at the same time! It helps wash it all down LOL
  10. Hey, my name is Laurie and I am start starting the process as well pretty much. My mom, surprisingly was supportive but when I told one of my friends (I havent told alot of people though) she said that God would not want me to alter my body and that with the right amount of determination, hard work, motivation, etc that I could lose the weight ... now, she is about 150-200 lbs over weight herself and has no interest in losing it or getting healthy. The thing that I want to say to you is that you have to look at the whole situation: * Have you tried everything to lose the weight? * Do you always gain it back or is it impossible to lose it? * What is your relationship with food? * Are you willing to work hard to make it work? * Do you feel peace when you think about getting it? The reason I knew she was "wrong" was because when I thought about not getting the lapband; I felt defeated, discouraged, like a failure etc. But when I thought about getting it, I was full of hope and visions of what it would be like to finally have the body that my mind already thinks I am. I hope you can make the right decision for you! maybe if you try to explain to your mom your reasonings and take her to some appts with you or to the info seminar she will understand more?

YAY!!! So at the end of the info seminar I was under the impression that I wouldnt get any appt until September. Well today ... I GOT A CALL!!! I go in for .. well I dont even know what it is exactly but I go in to see the PA, a pre consultation maybe? I dont know exactly. So that is for August 25th! I'm going to try to schedule the psych consult that day and the nutrition consult too! That way I can just go from there!!! I'm so hoping that I can get the surgery before my husband comes back from Iraq in Oct. *Fingers crossed, Prayers going up and hoping it works out Gods way!*

Well I just got back from the information seminar, got the kiddo in bed and sat down at the computer. It is K's (my daughter) first day of school tomorrow .. going to Pre-K! I"m so excited for her to go and learn, I know she is going to do great but I'm gonna miss my precious baby! So, on to the seminar ... two things really that I thought of it 1. I'm really leaning toward the Lapband for sure now. Just from what they said about the bypass and the sleeve, I feel like the lapband would suit me better and be more for my lifestyle and desires. and then 2. I'm totally bummed because they are scheduling consults for September, no sooner. I was really hoping to have the surgery in the beginning of Sept since I am already approved with my insurance and all I need to do is the consult, psych and nutrition appts then the surgery. I guess there is a reason God is having me wait. Just have to trust in HIS time. (I"ve been learning that A LOT lately in other areas!) I am even more excited to have it done though. I've been really worried about excess skin at the end of it all and needing some plastic surgery afterwards ... which would of course have to be out of pocket, and the Doc said that if you are in your 20s or 30s and strength train while you lose, it is easier for your skin to "pop" back. Well I am 30 right now, 31 in Nov and I love strength training! I also heard someone on here say that if you have a BMI of less than 45 or 50, I cant remember which one, that your skin is more likely to "shrink" as well ... All positives!!!

I'm going in for my educational seminar tomorrow night. I don't really know what to expect really. I think I have researched what I need to. I just get this feeling that ... well, I'm not even really sure what I"m feeling. I guess this doesn't make much sense for my first blog. I was thinking it would be something poetic like  I saw a picture of me that was taken last night and then one today .. wow, I really need this surgery. I know this is a tool and its not an answer. But right now, in this struggle I have been fighting all my life, this tool is my answer. I need a jump-start, something to help me be successful with what I'm already doing. Stupid PCOS makes it so hard for me to lose anything. I swear I breath in carbs and I gain a pound. I think I'm all confused like because I don't really know how I feel after the seminar. I know how I feel right now and that this is like my only answer to help me, but I feel like maybe at the end of the seminar my mind will change and I wont want the surgery, then what? Where do I go from there?
  19. So I've been looking into getting Banded and it looks like all will go smooth, Lord willing! I know its a major surgery, there is recovery and that it wont be easy with the new lifestyle .. but really my only concern, that i cant get out of my head is ... will i have loose skin? I know you can lose at a slower rate, 1 or 2 lbs a week and if you weight train and eat the right tupe of foods it would make sence that you wouldnt have loose skin. can anyone shed some light on what you have gone thru with that?
  20. Hi! I havent been banded yet. I just started researching it and considering it. But I already know that bypass is not for me!! I think you have to do what is best for you and what you want, not what your doctor wants you to get! I just have to say thanks to everyone for posting their weight loss with the band. I have PCOS as well and my view right now is that if I can lose anything!!!! It is better than staying here for getting heavier. Laura, great job by the way!!!!! Laurie
  21. Hey there y'all .. My name is Laurie and I am on the verge of my final decision to either embark on this journey or not. I am praying for wisdom about it, researching everything and trying to get personal experiences about it. Anyways, I am 30 years old and have a beautiful little girl that is 4 years old. Anyways. I never considered surgery because I never thought I was "that" fat. I know how to eat and exercise. I basically take care of myself but I swear that if I eat one chip it makes me gain 5 lbs because I have PCOS. I eat about 90% clean about 90% of the time and I am fairly active most of the time as well. I just cannot shake this weight. well thats me I guess .. Oh I am a SAHM and a very proud Army wife and ironically a personal trainer. (I told you I know what to do! LOL)
