First NSV...And, the article I can't believe was published

Good luck on your clothes size! That is a wonderful feeling. I hit the 2's and wow that is a great feeling. I am now beginning that long journey to the hundreds. However, I am going to embrace it and work hard to get there. I did read your article. Yes, it outraged me. It seem that this a just another way people discriminate. I have no tolerance for that at all. I did note the attached apology. However, I decide to forgo the 3,000 plus comments. Wow....I think it is something that all of us who have struggled with our weight have known. There are ignorant people in the world who will find reasons to be mean and hateful to other in situations that they truly don't understand. Those kinds of people motivate me more everyday to teach my children to be accepting of our differences! Thanks for sharing it!

    Live Alone

I don't live alone. However, when I came home, I stayed on my dad's side of the house (duplex) to be alone. (LOL) I have 4 children and it can be a litte loud at times. I spent my days alone resting and trying to get everything down as far as the liquids and counting how much protein for the first 4 days. It was just so new to me. I did just fine. I didn't need anyone to help take care of me. If your procedure is pretty uneventful, you should be fine. However, I would have a back up person just to check in with you to see if you need anything of if you have any issues. Good luck with everything!

    im starving!!!

I know that post op 2 week diet can be so hard. I was able to eat the sugarfree pudding 3 days post op (per my doctors sheet of allowable foods). I actually tried putting in my Injury protein but didn't like how it made it taste so I didn't try it again. I questioned myself a lot during the first month because the weight loss can be slow due to the body trying to recover from surgery and the stress of it. However, use it as the tool it is meant to be and it will come off. I also had my mother in law make me some beef broth to just have a change in taste. I think it was the best I ever tasted in my life. :cursing: Good luck just a few more days and you will move on to soft food!

    No Slip

Great news on no slip! Way to go with your attitude. We know this is a journey and we may have set backs. However, we must get refocused and keep going! Good luck as you continue your journey.

    My Beautiful Cousin

My mom and I always promised each other that we would visit each other in our dreams when we passed. I had a wonderful dream of me leaning on my mother and her voice telling me right before my surgery that she was here for me. I couldn't see her face, but the love I felt was so strong and powerful. I woke up knowing that I had visited with my mom. Since that day....I have not cried over losing my mom. I just smile and talk with her. Just like you know that you have had a chance to visit with your cousin, Tammy. You know....

    1st day back...YIKES

Good luck on your first day back. Just plan what you are going to take to "eat". It will make your day a lot better. The planning is a big part of my success!

    food question

I was banded on 7/28, and I have not found anything that I can't eat. However, I do chew, chew, chew! I have had bread get stuck when I ate too fast. I learned the hard way to chew with bread. It is different with all of us. Good luck with your journey!

    What a week!

Wow! I am really glad that your are feeling better. I remember counting down the days and hours until I could have mushies. I am hopeful that the rest of your journey will be productive without the medical scares. Best wishes!
  9. Wow, you look great! Good luck as you recouperate from your surgery!

Will I be one of the people...

Please don't get discouraged! I know my first week of post op was hard and my body was recovering from surgery. I felt like I should have lost 20 lbs instead of something like 2 pounds. However, the further out from surgery, the more the weight started to come off. I was 3 months out on Oct. 28. The same day I hit my official 40 lbs+ (hey every little ounce counts...right?) weight loss. IF you are comfortable with it...you might want to order it online if you live in an area that has limited supplies and use what you have available until it arrives. Please remember that this is a journey. There will be bumps in the road. However, if you stay the course, you will eventually get to your goal. I know I have only traveled a small part of this journey but I am getting better at it as I go along!

    Help!

You are now starting over again! Take this time to reflect and go in with a new attitude. Please remember it is a tool. Take time to focus on yourself. Every weekend, I go shopping for "my" foods. It really helped me be prepared for the week. I know I will have healthy choices to choose from when I am ready to eat. I also keep a journal and visit this site everyday. It is my support group and I need it to keep me accountable. Use the lapband as the tool it is meant to be!

    when does weight loss start

I did not lose much weight until I had to up my calories.I think my body was sorta in starvation mode. Also, I have found that when I plateau, I need to look at my diet and focus on getting the right kinds of calories with my focus being on proteins and vegetables. It was slow at first. However, yesterday I was exactly 3 months out from surgery and I officially hit the 40 lb weight loss. Good luck and I agree with Marw about talking with the dietician!

    Three months today!

That is wonderful! We had surgery on the same day. I am so happy for you. Isn't it amazing how much more energy you have now that you are losing weight? Keep on with your journey and look out Macy's!

    The Big Event..My First Fill

Whew....it is finally over..my first fill. It was not nearly as bad as I had envisioned. However, I was greatly surprised by the size of the needle. My Dr. was really sweet and he was telling me exactly what he was going to do. I really appreciated that until....he felt the need to show me that long needle. He could have skipped that part and I would have been just fine. He put 3 cc's in my band. It was not bad at all. It was much easier than getting a shot. Now I am hopeful that I will not find myself getting hungry. He stated that I should be eating 1/2 cup at a meal. That seems like such a small amount. How do we get enough calories to keep from going into starvation mode? I wished I would have asked him that question. However, if anyone has the answer please let me know.

I am glad that all went well. I know that I am ready for my second fill in a week. You are doing a wonderful job. Keep up the great effort!

    Comments

Believe it or not....my son said he thought he would miss his soft and fluffy mom ( smile...that sound a lot better than morbidly obese). However, when I explained that this would help me to live longer...he was all smiles.

    I'm ready.

Your story sounds almost identical to mind. The first group I went to were not very welcoming and I backed out. The second group of surgeons and their office were wonderful and understanding. It felt right. I had my surgery on July 28th and I'm down 39 lbs (yeah...1 more to 40) and I am loving it! Good luck as you begin your lapband journey!

    Five Months Already!

Sandradee, I always enjoy reading your post! You are so motivating. I am not to the point where I don't weigh myself. I hope to be there someday. However, for now...it is better for me to weigh myself. It keeps me accountable to myself. Best wishes as you continue your journey!

Time again to hit the reset button!

Good luck on your plan. I have read about your Jax in other post. Could you share a little about what it is? I have been making sure that I don't eat over 1,200 calories a day. Also, I walk for about 40 minutes 5 days a week. I also found that I do so much better when I document everything. However,....I really need fill number 2. Believe me when I say Nov. 2nd can't get here soon enough. Your plan sounds wonderful! It is also encouraging to see that others feel like me when I have to take some time and refocus my mind and get this right! As we know, it is not always easy but truly worth it!

    Feeling blah.......

Oh my, can I remember those liquid days. There were the absolute worst. However, once you get to the soft foods it is very "do-able." I think the liquid diet days were the hardest part of my journey. Good luck on the rest of your journey!

That is wonderful! I know that I was so scared for fill number 1. However, it was so much easier than I would have thought. I go for my second fill in a little under 2 weeks. I can tell that I need it! Have a great weekend!
