  1. I assume you're on normal foods? Then no, no harm done. Have you been walking or anything? You never know, if you've been moving a lot the scale may surprise you when you come home. I went away 7 weeks post op, I ate very poorly ( not completely my fault as our meals were prepared for us and I had no say in it) but I woke up and took a walk on the beach 5 out of the 7 mornings and I came home and weighed myself and had lost 1/2#. Not a ton, but considering my last vacation, I was up like 6 when I came back. I was ecstatic! So you may surprise yourself
  2. Am I upset I let myself get to this point, but I was done with life as I knew it. I knew the band wasn't going to lose the weight for me and that I still had to diet. That it was just going to help me. So yeah I'm upset, the band is not doing much for me right now, but it gave me the kick in my ass I needed to say, hey you have to do this!
  3. I can't. It really depends on you. I don't lose as fast as others. My sisters wedding is in November and my goal is to lose 25 lb by then. It depends how much you weigh, and how you lose. I lose an average of 1.5 per week.
  4. My doc told me NSAIDs were fine to take anytime. The rule is for bypass patients.
  5. I'm with nurse, I really think you should start with elliptical or treadmill. I think what you're doing is to much right now, you're still healing. I started back on the elliptical at 2 weeks post op, then added back in stregth training at 3.5 or 4 weeks
  6. If you can't keep anything down your band may have slipped. I'd call your doc ASAP!
  7. If shes saying you have to redo your specialist visits, those should be good for a year
  8. I agree with Cindy, since this is a new lifestyle for me, not a diet, I do count calories, but if there is something I want I'll have it in moderation. Which is why I've chosen to limit carbs, not do low low carb, because that's not realistic for me in the long run
  9. I have to say I did not even tell my sister til 5 days after I had surgery. My sister can be very critical and very opinionated and I thought she'd have negative things to say. And I did not want to here it. Up until like 5 days before the surgery the only one that knew was my mother and a good friend that knew I was miserable as I was. Then my mom was like I need to tell your dad, not exactly sure why I kept it from him, but I told her to tell him. And 5 days after my surgery was Christmas, so I (or rather my mom, since I couldn't seem to say it) told my sister and her fiancé. And she didn't say anything negative. So it was fine, but for others when they ask how I'm losing the weight, I say I'm just watching what I eat and exercising. Which is really not a lie.
  10. I've only had one fill so far, and I did not even feel it. I agree with Cindy c though, what is the point of numbing it? So now you've gotten stuck twice instead of once. Like I said, I didn't even feel the needle going in. But then again I stab (though not in the abdoman) myself with a needle at work accidentally at least once every couple of weeks or more...lol, I always say, good thing I don't work with humans.
  11. I haven't tried it, but I found a pb called Better n' Peanut Butter, it has 100 cal per 2 tbsp, 2 g fat and I forget how much protein. To me it tastes like normal peanut butter. I originally found it at Trader Joes, but recently found they sell it at target too.
  12. When I'm hungry my stomach feels the same it always had when I was hungry. In the beginning my stomach just made a lot of noise and I could definitely tell it was not hunger, because it really didn't feel like anything, just noisy.
  13. From what I've read what your sweet spot is now might not be it when you get refilled. So if you're at let's say 6 cc now and you get 1cc removed putting 1cc back in after could be to much or to little, not neccessarily the right amount so I would be hesitant to mess with it. Also I think the tightening has to do with higher elevations. Is Vegas at a higher elevation than where you live? If not you might be ok. I believe at your sweet spot you should not be uncomfortable after only eating 1-2 bites. So IMO you may actually be to tight
  14. That's one reason there's only a few people that know about my surgery. I thought if I told people they'ed scrutinize what I ate. In fact my mother kind of pissed me off a couple of months ago. I met up with my dad and he took me out to dinner and I asked him what my mom had said about it (I had a feeling she would have something to say). And he told me she said, you shouldn't take her to dinner she's supposed to be on a diet. Wtf? Yeah, so until I'm at or close to goal, no one else is knowing
  15. For the most part I don't drink with meals but I don't have a problem if I do drink with meals. If I'm out to eat I usually drink because there is water in front of me and I think I kind of forget, bug haven't had a problem. When I'm home/at work I don't bring my drink with me so I don't do it. But I do drink right up to eating sometimes and I wait usually minimum of 30 minutes after
  16. You need to get your band COMPLETELY unfilled. You should be able to eat. You're probably not losing because you're not getting enough calories in. You should NEVER have gotten a first fill if you couldn't eat to begin with. If you had told your doc about not being able to eat and he still gave you a fill, then sorry, but your doc is an idiot. If you can't eat solids without pain and or pbing or vomiting you are in the red zone. See Alex's green zone post in the post op thread. You are not supposed to be in pain when you eat. So please go get all your fluid removed and give your stomach time to rest, since I'm sure it's very irritated.
  17. First of all congrats on your weight loss so far! Second, you say you've never PB'd, gotten stuck, slimed, had any issues. Well why do you want to? I've been banded 6 months, had one fill at 5 months of only 0.75 cc, I've never had any issues either, never been stuck or slimed or anything and I'd rather not. I do have some restriction, but a lot of this I'm doing on my own and I'm fine with that. I'm portioning my meals, eating mostly the right stuff (do cheat at work when there's junk around, which I gotta improve on that). I am going to get another small fill when I go back just to help me a little more since I'm still kind of hungry. I say if you're losing weight, keep doing what you're doing, then when you slow change it up.
  18. There's really not much you can do, it has to do with how long you've been overweight, age, genetics etc. I'm 28, I have a ways to go sti but so far my stomach is doing ok, arms may be a little flabby. I'm losing slowly though and I think that helps. I think if you lose to fast your skin may not adjust as much
  19. It really depends on your body, everybody is different. For me, I do kickboxing 6 days a week and eat 1200 or less calories and I'm ecstatic if I lose 2#/ week
  20. If you're feeling satisfied with what you are eating there is absolutely no reason to get one. I did not get my first one til 5 months post op. My doc doesnt seem to even encourage them ( he didn't mention one until I said I was beginning to feel hungry at 5 months). I am still hungry now but I put off making an appointment, now the soonest I could get one was not til the 14th:(. Oh well a little more time to decide if I really want one. But if you don't feel hungry between meals, there's no need.
  21. First week post op, I maybe got 30 grams of protein per day. I wasn't concerned, once I got to full liquids the second week, I got much closer to my requirements
  22. I knew it was surgery and knew it was going to hurt. I have a decent tolerance for pain. The first day I was like omg what did I do, took pain meds. The second day was soo much better and I took the pain meds a few times. The third day was pretty good. The only reason I took the pain mess was because I started my period and I get bad cramps. Luckily I took it once and kicked all the pain for the rest of the day. I may have taken liquid tylenok once or twice after that, can't remember. But I was a bit surprised how quickly the pain subsided. I was still sore getting out of bed and such, but nothing nearly painful that I needed pain meds for it. I did take the gas x strips. I did not have a lot of gas pain, a little in my arm when I was sitting.
  23. You need to go to your doc. If you do have aspiration pneumonia you need to get it treated. It's just as bad a regular pneumonia.
  24. First 6 weeks is about healing, not about weight loss. Also 5-6 # in 3 weeks is normal weight loss. You should not expect to lose more than 1-2# per week. This is not bypass.
