I have surgery on Tuesday but am having doubts
Hi Lovely...Im getting surgery on the 30th and even though I cant imagine canceling now I feel some of the sames things you are feeling. I actually just posted a "freak out"message because I ran into a girl that had the surgery 2 weeks ago and had a really bad experience..hearing about her experience scared me and made me question my decision..but for every bad experience I hear or read there are 5 more good experiences so Iv just decided I need to chill out and move forward. Gotta prepare myself mentally for the bad or the good....I just hope its the good:) we are having surgery around the same time if you want to talk Im on facebook or email me!!

Please tell me this is not normal!!!
Thanks guys! I think Im just spazing cause I talked to her just a couple hours ago and I think my nerves are getting the best of me. Iv never been under before or had any surgery before so its that unknown territory that Im treading in and Im realizing that im so close now!!

Banded July 20th
Thanks for the post..I just posted a "freak out" message after hearding someone I knows horror story about their surgery so had me freaking out and scared I was going to have a bad experience but it seems like there are much more good stories than bad.

Please tell me this is not normal!!!
Ok, so Im scheduled for surgery next Friday the 30th and a know a couple people who have had the surgery and they have had a good experience with surgery and Iv been trying to stay positive but today I spoke to an aquaintance who had the surgery 2 weeks ago and she had a horrible experience with ALOT of pain...she said that she woke up out of anthestia and could barly breath and she was in recovery for 6 hours being put on pain meds every 30 minutes..and she had EXTREME pain and ended up off work for 2 weeks (i am only off for 5 days). She said she had so much gas pain that it even hurt to walk..she had blood coming from her incisions and that she was even vomiting from the pain...she had to go back to the hospital because of the pain and bleeding. So this of course freaked me out and Im so scared Im going to have a bad experience like this..I know there will be pain but is this rare occurance?? and are a majority not this way?? Please help calm me down!!!

Lifting and caring for kids after surgury. Just decided I am going thru with it!
Good post! I was actually concerned about this since my surgery is scheduled next week. I have a very affectionate 2 yr old and he likes to jump all on me, hug and kiss me and be in my arms. I plan on just showing him my boo boos and trying to get him to understand that I have to be careful. my surgery is on a friday so my mom is going to take him overnight than my husband will be home with me sat and sunday to help, after that Im on my own!! hopefully he doesnt sneak up on me in bed and jump on my stomach like he does now..that would suck:)

Self-pay panic!!
I was concerned too about being selfpay..I borrowed from my 401k and took me forever to actually click "submit" on the loan request. I kept thinking of the extra $ for the next 4 years coming out my checks and than all the other things I could do with that money..like payoff debt but finally i just decided I was going to do it and as soon as I got the $ I paid for surgery..its scheduled for July 30th!!

Self Pay
Hello! I am selfpay and my surgery is scheduled on July 30th total cost of the surgery for me was 13,700. 3700 went to the surgeons and the rest was for the hospital. I borrowed from my 401k and got a couple thousand extra to help cover the fills and help if any emergency's came about. My insurance is United Healthcare. they did pay for all my pre op visits minus the copays and they paid for my bloodwork since I asked my dr to code it in a way they would cover. Im a little worried about any additional expenses that might "creep" in after surgery but hopefully everything will go smooth and I wont have any problems. Im prepared to pay for the fills but other than that I shouldnt have any other expenses!!

United Health care
hello, my husband works for a Govt contractor and we have United HealthCare. I did not get approved for the surgery as it was not a covered item under our plan..but I have read about other people getting approved. It definitly depends on the plan you have with your employer. I went through trying to get approved though for about 3 months because we were mislead by the customer service people we spoke to at United Healthcare. The lady who handled the insurance at my WL clinic also got misinformation so it lead us on this wild goose chase. I originally was told it could be covered if they evaluate my case so I submitted all the documentation required only to waste 2 months and be told we were told the wrong info for our plan and they wont cover it anyway. The wouldnt even speak to me about it they had to speak to the clinic directly. they did cover all of my appts at the office though just not the surgery. I am now going in as selfpay but still plan to submit everything I can to United just to see if I can get anything back.. !! Good luck with your process.

Am I really at THIS point?
Hey, I too am 35, 5'8 and 295lbs..Im scheduled for surgery on July 30th. I said almost the exact thing you are saying now before I decided for sure I was going to go through with it....I still have my doubts especially since Im selfpay...but I feel like I have done it all ...every diet imaginable including diet pills...I dont have it in me anymore to fight this battle without help..Iv been as low as 210 and as high as 300lbs over the past 15 years.I always gained it back plus more..I gotta change my lifestyle and my eating habits.Im still young but if I kept on the same road how would I be in 10 more years??No health issues now but you cant be 300lbs and not have issues eventually..I didnt want some crazy health issue or something dangerous to happen in order to "wake me up". If your asking if its come to this and you are in this sight than it sounds like it has...if you want to talk anytime let me know!!.

Overwhelmed July Bander
Hey! Im selfpay as after giving up on my insurance as well. My surgery is scheduled for July 30th. Im also a planner and Iv been on this site for a couple months now trying to soak up information so I can get a clue about what to expect. Im finding its 50/50 on alot of stuff like pain after surgery, doctors instructions on liquids before and after and success. I figured I can only plan so much and the rest I will have to wait and see how it goes...:smile2:

Any July Bandsters.....
My dr. hasnt said anything about liquid diet either..I have my last appt before surgery on July 2nd so he may tell me something than but a girl I work with had the same doctor do the procedure last year and she did not require the liquid diet before surgery..I think is up to the doctor. I sure hope I dont have to!!

Any July Bandsters.....
Im scheduled july 30th!!To the ladies who have the unsupportive friends--these people are just ignorant and do not understand this process and what all it takes and the hard work involved. It takes really learning and educating yourself in order to understand how it all works. surround yourself with positive and supportive people because these are the people that will make a difference in your success!! Im really excited about having the surgery but scared as well. I dont trust myself with food so I have doubts too..but you have to find it in yourself to make it happen....and make it work.

Forbidden Foods
Im scheduled for surgery on July 30th. I am doing the same thing. I know I should be starting to get my mindset right and start "training" my body and mind to eat the way I will need on the band but I just keep eating what I want and thinking that Im not going to be able to eat this or be like this again after the band....Im torn from what I want to do and what I need to do ..its pretty frustrating and I also get mad at myself:cursing:

This is like one of my biggest fears...getting this surgery and the weight loss being extremely slow or I dont lose much at all...Im scheduled for surgery July 30th and this site helps me and I learn alot but some of the things I read makes me wonder if I even have this in me to accomplish want I want and need..Im selfpay too so it puts even more pressure on me to make this work...Im glad you guys wrote this and I know Im goin to be on here even more once I have the surgery!!!

United Healthcare--BOOOO!!! Need suggstions
United Healthcare would not approve me for surgery..they said it was not "under my husbands plan" for his work at all. They gave conflicting information to my WL clinic and told them it was not an exception and I ended up wasting almost 2 months on trying to get approval but they ended up just coming back and telling me its not covered. I am really bummed since I know so many other people who have the same insurance that it covers. they did cover my office visits but not any part of the surgery. I am going in this selfpay and my surgery is july 30th. I am looking for any suggestions that some of you might have in just being 100% sure that there is nothing I can do to get my insurance to cover any part of the surgery post or pre op. I only know what i know so hopefully you guys may know something I dont
