January Bandsters???
Me, not feeling so well today. Has nothing to do with surgical feeling bad; I feel cold/flu like. Yesterday I went to the supermarket - that was horrible! But stupid me decided to go to Sam's club with my Mom for a couple of things - another dumb move. I feel horrible today. Not even a desire for food today, everything tastes horrible to me - all the Soups just seems nasty or spoiled; though I know they're not. AND...I took a 4 hour nap in the middle of the day; I never do that! I feel a bit naseous, called the surgeons nurse, and she told me that there was nothing that she could do for me - no Rx to call in or anything. I'm not happy with that - there should be a pill or suppository or something. She told me to just 'hang in there'. I feel like calling back, but don't have the strength to be honest. Sorry to be Debbie Downer. I just didn't expect to feel like crap on top of the surgery stuff. And that is doing well. Steri Strips are still on - almost a week later; how long do they stay on???

Pain that just won't go away?
Definately see a chiropractor first. You don't want to be stuck on MORE meds for a long term period do you? I know I want to get off as many as possible. As far as some people 'don't believe in them'...I have to say that Chiropracitic is a science. As opposed to something like religion; which is based on writings. Nothing to argue - I just get frustrated when people 'don't believe' in them. It's not fairy tale.

Tomorrow is MY BIG DAY!! Bandster here I come!
A few of us, including me - well wished Colleen yesterday. Today, our posts have been removed. Anyone know why??

What's the ettiquette?
The problem is that I work in the Corporate Hdqtrs, and this team is in Texas, California, and North Carolina. The other team, all in my home state - one handwritten will do them fine.

Just had surgery Friday and now have diarrhea
It will go away. Look at it as a good sign, all things are working. Just be sure to get in all of your liquids, and the diahrrea won't be a big problem, since it will go away around day 5.

Tomorrow is MY BIG DAY!! Any Supportive or Suggestions would be wonderful!
Hi Colleen! I have tears in my eyes; your enthusiasm is contagious! I am just 5 days out of surgery. I said out loud before going in 'What am I doing to myself?' The self doubt will definately creep in; took another two days this past week to show it's evil head - self doubt. I'm still not sure I made the best choice - this is all too new. What I did do was make a very smart step toward gaining a healthy life back. Don't be surprised like I was, there will be alot of soreness after. Day 1 and 2 - I never thought it would end. But it will get easier. Gosh, I can barely say enough to comfort you; I know exactly how you feel. Best of luck - we're all in this together. And this is the best place for any kind of support. BANDSTER!!!!!!!!!!

How did you decide?
Cancer runs in my family. I've seen my Dad have to go through feedings with a tube running directly into his stomach. I felt that if God Forbid, I were to get cancer down the road; I want all my parts in their original places, in order for me to fight the battle as best I can. Simple as that.

OK to sleep on my port side?
I am ever so happy to report that I slept like a baby! A full 7.5 UNINTERUPTED hours of sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't do that without a port in my side! hehehe. Ambien, I love you. hehehe Glad I took it. I guess I was afraid of my new pouch handling the effects differently.
-
OK to sleep on my port side?
Ok...so here I am; one Ambien later. I'm really hoping this works. I was a little nervous, but my last percocet was at 7:00...and it's nearly 11. I just want 5 hours uninterrupted!

Why is chocolate a No No?
Thanks Alexandra; you answered it for me. I was under the impression that it was a No No, somehow bad for the band. If I treat myself now and then with some chocolate (1 time a month for my PMS)...I would like to when I can!
-
OK to sleep on my port side?
I do have my Ambien, but wasn't sure it was such a great idea, considering I'm still taking percocet. I guess this is a question for my surgeon.

January Bandsters???
Hey Marjon, Again - thank you for the great post! I am one of the newly banded folks that is terrified of a PB! I cry when I vomit preband. I dread the thought of it - its just something that I have to deal with. I bought baby forks and spoons to help me out with portion control for when I go to mushies and then solids. If I didn't do that, I'd be PBing immediately for sure. :hungry:

Why is chocolate a No No?
I'd like to understand why chocolate is such a no no on this board? I'm only asking b/c once a month - I do get my craving. I also undertstand that hot chocolate is ok. I'm only guessing b/c of the caffeine? I'm not looking to gorge myself on candy bar after candy bar - but would like my now and then fix. Any answers?

What's the ettiquette?
I received three deliveries of 'get well' flowers from different teams at work. What is the ettitquette for me saying Thank You? Do I send one card to each team (they're in different states!), or can I send an email to them? Can it wait until I return to the office in another week, or do I do it from home??

OK to sleep on my port side?
I can not for the life of me sleep at night in the bed. I tried on my right side last night; woke up with spasms in my back muscles. I guess b/c I'm trying to compensate and keep the left side safe and not lay on it. I'm normally a left side sleeper! sleeping flat on my back isn't working either. The reclineer, I swear is making my back feel even worse. Anyone else experience this back/muscular pain now? I guess it has to do with me walking funny also; I'm still not feeling totally upright.

Steri Strip Seepage??
Marjon, Thank you a million times over for your reply. If it weren't for this board, making me know these things are 'normal', I'd be on the phone dialing the surgeon like crazy! Sorry to hear that 2 1/2 weeks out you're still going through this issue. I suppose it's just the body and it's way of healing itself. Could be worse, I could have stiches or staples, and I don't. Again thank you for the heads up! Sheri

Steri Strip Seepage??
Hey all, I have 4 incisions, 1 is my port. The port steri-strip seems to be seeping a little bit. Not alot. Only if I touch it, I see a bit of moisture. Should I be alarmed? It's not red, inflamed more than normal after surgery, no big red circle around it, etc. I was told to remove the bandages that covered them after 48 hours, and let the strips fall off as they wish. Should I be concerned about this little bit of clearish/yellowish seepage? Thanks!

January Bandsters???
HELL YES, I'm terrified of solids foods at this point. Can't even have mushies until 2/15...but even they scare me. My thing is that I'm so afraid of PBing. I know it's bound to happen; I just don't want it to! I suppose I better stop drinking with my soups at this point; again to break the habit!

What was that food journal?
Someone had posted a food journal today that they loved so much; said I could get it on Amazon. I can't find who had it! Any suggestions?????

January Bandsters???
Hey Tracey, Thanks so much for the suggestion! The sour cream sounds HEAVENLY right about now!!!!! Mom made her "jewish penicillin" - good old chicken soup. I was wondering if I could take that chicken and blend it up at all?
-
January Bandsters???
I'd like to know if drinking w/meals is ok during this stage as well. I've not listened to that rule yet; but I'm on all liquids. I don't get mushies until 14 days out. I guess I'll be trying every type of soup out there! I may add cottage cheese tomorrow. Anyone have any suggestions for 'fancy'-ing it up??

Is this GURGLING normal?
If THAT is truth - then LET ME ROAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

January Bandsters???
Just checking in. Alot of trial and error today. I did put the cream soups in the ultimate chopper; it made them very 'fluffy'...I won't do that again. I'd rather just take out any chunks that might be in there. I did attempt to put the flavorless protein powder in the cream soup; didn't work out too well. It didn't disolve too well in the cream; but in the clear chicken broth it was PERFECT! Great way to get an additional 17gs of protein! Also had my first Protein Bullet; very good choice for a quick 25gs...a little $$ but worth it right now. I also tried this a.m. the Nectar Roadside tea...didn't care for that one at all. Going to try more of the samples out today. The Vitamin Shoppe near me sells the Fuzzy Navel, I didn't like that one, the tea, and lemonade which was very good. I also tried the Cambells gold box of Butternut squash soup; didn't like it. The muslces in the belly are a bit better today, my pain is more from the port incision. I had the heating pad on for about two hours today, I fell asleep. Luckily didn't burn myself. Anyway, I do have a bit of swelling. I can't imagine what you all go through with the Tummy Tucks - as far as pain goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Protein drinks - GAG
I LOVE my "Matrix Simply Vanilla"...even my Mom likes it so much, she's having them too! Also, for a quick 25gs, you can buy the IDS New Whey Liquid Proteins. They taste EXACTLY like Jello. AND best part it's only 3 oz of liquid, so you really get alot of Protein in it! Vitamin Shoppe carries it. Also, I bought a flavorless Protein powder that I've now mixed into everything from my milk to Soups. Can't even tell it's there - and it's 17g/scoop. Keep in mind, you don't want to have more than 40g of protein per meal in powder form. From what I'm told it will be too hard to digest.

Is this GURGLING normal?
Seems that the growls have subsided a bit today...I was thinking b/c I had some soup today? Really not too many liquids, b/c I fell asleep. I think when I start getting them down again today; the growls might come back.
