Worried about weightloss
The only way to succeed with the lapband is to have the right attitude and make a lifestyle change where you are eating healthier, smaller portions, and getting some exercise in. If you get the band thinking your days of dieting are over, you probably won't succeed. That being said, this tool can help you a great deal if you work with it. There are definitely people who don't follow the rules and don't lose all their weight. It is really up to you, for the most part. Also, keep in mind that a LOT of people won't get online and find a forum about lapbands unless they are having issues. Some of us here just like forums and are on for the support, but some people of online and search for answers when they are having problems. I would bet there is a LARGE majority of people who do not log on because they are not having problems. So, keep that in mind also.

"trial liquid diet"
I think that if you are only drinking shakes for your pre-op diet (or something similar calorie-wise) then you should not try to exercise. You are not eating a lot of calories, so I think just resting during this time is better.

Alcohol??????????
Every doctor is different, mine says no alcohol 2 weeks before surgery. I also have a 12 day pre-op diet before surgery, so the previous poster's rules wouldn't apply to me, either. Check with your doctor.

Food Choices 1 week post op
When you eat solid food your stomach moves around a lot to break it up. When you drink clear liquids it doesn't. If you are eating solid foods within a week after your surgery, you are most likely interrupting the healing process, which means that you may be jeopardizing your weight loss. I suggest you go back to clear liquids for a couple weeks.

Surgery in Mexico
Dr. Ortiz from Obesity Control Center in Tijuana, Mexico did my mom's surgery a couple weeks ago. I am going to the same place next month. She was VERY pleased with Dr. Ortiz, him and his staff were very professional and knowledgeable and everything went as smoothly as it possibly could! She just loved the staff and the doctor and I am excited to go there myself next month! We paid $6800 each out of pocket, fills will cost $100 if we go back there, so that is a pretty good deal I think, also. I also want to add that it has been legal in Mexico longer than here in the US, so I would think they would have more experience than US doctors, which helped me make my decision.

who else is starting the liquid preop diet on MOnday?
That's harsh Kathy.. I get 2 shakes and a Lean Cuisine on my pre-op diet.. I also get to have some green salad if I need to, so that is gonna be my lifesaver! GOOD LUCK, you will lose a ton I am sure!

Are you a man, a woman or something else?
And you can guarantee that you are more educated on this topic how? You have not asked me about my college training nor have I said anything about it. The only thing I commented on was your rudeness and holier-than-thou attitude. Feel free to live your life feeling above everyone else, just be aware that you come off as arrogant and actually look less educated because of it. Someone with so much college training would have certainly learned their manners by now, right? Did you miss that class? Anyway, we are straying from the original topic once again. I marked my gender and should probably move along now. :w00t:

Are you a man, a woman or something else?
She called someone an idiot lol, I think that takes the crown for "rude". It is obvious she thought she was more educated than everyone else on the topic, when in fact she wasn't. But she did stop talking eventually (most likely because she realized she wasn't the only one who has ever gone to school in their life) so I guess we can thank her for that.

FATS!! Finally Able to Succeed (Feb 2010 Bandster)
Hey, I am getting my surgery done by Dr. Ortiz as well. My mom just had hers done a few days ago and she LOVED it down there. They are super gfreat, very professional, no issues whatsoever! I don't think that just because it is in Mexico, people should assume there is something wrong with it! It is a really great facility and everything will be great! I am going on February 22, so you are a bit ahead of me!

Self-pay costs of different surgeons.....
Dr. Ortiz at OCC in TJ, Mexico... $6800, my mom just got it done and I am on my way there in February. Awesome staff and facility!!! And way cheaper than the places here in the USA, Dr. Ortiz has been doing these longer since it wasn't approved in the USA for some time after they were doing it in Mexico. TOP NOTCH!
