Well, if Persist wants some kind of absolution or to give a simple explanation why doesn't Persist post on this thread instead of giving you a private PM, Kat? She has undoubtedly hurt Wonder by these harsh and thoughtless posts and she has certainly irritated a number of other individuals who are engaged in Wonder's current situation. As for yourself, what did you handle the wrong way? I don't see anything wrong.

I have always had gay friends and I come from parents who were, as we now say, gay friendly. In the case of my mum, this was no surprise for she was a bohemian Brit. In the case of my father it was very surprising; he was east European and very, very macho but he was also a Jew and he viewed homosexuals as occupying the same space as Jews did during the Holocaust. He figured that you were born a Jew, you were born homosexual and that is the luck of draw; why, then, should you be persecuted by others? I have since come to realise that my father's attitude was quite unusual. The more prevalent attitude of those who are oppressed is to come home and (metaphorically speaking) kick the family cat or dog. This seems to be how human psychology oh so often works. Those who are oppressed often do not acquire empathy with others who are similarly oppressed but seek to get their own back by acting in the role of the oppressor as soon as they are able. The blood bath reported by TOM is truly appalling. I have heard from friends and have also read that this business of coming out is infinitely worse for people of colour. Their home communities are much more rooted in the values of the macho. I have a number of gay Muslim friends who live in Paris and in Canada who have chosen to estrange themselves from their families; they are unable to come out to them, you see. From what I have heard Black communities are not cool to homosexual members. As an example: Canada, my country, wanted to ban entry to a popular Jamaican singer last summer because some of his songs were explicitly homophobic.

What offends me about these infomercials is that these scam marketers are preying on a vulnerable group of individuals. If any of this crap actually worked, it would not only be all over the media headlines, our own doctors would be urging us to buy this sh!t. Of course this is not the case but overweight people are vulnerable to snake oil merchants because of our own feelings of self-loathing and desperation. I would like to see the Food and Drug Administration folks clamp down on these pedlars. I would also like to see them become more engaged in the claims made by companies that sell cosmetic skin cremes. I have heard that most of these claims are false. Ageing is, of course, the other area in which we are vulnerable and are likely to easily part with our dollars.

As for the above comment that the U.N. condoned Hitler's behaviour prior to World War 2, the United Nations did not exist at that time. It only came into beginning after this War and was born out of a global desire to stop further wars. It was felt that this could be achieved through creating a formal environment where all nations would come together in order to negotiate. It was hoped that the United Nations would be more effective than the League of Nations which it replaced.

Oh, I wear jeans all the time. I have black ones and blue ones. Green loves jeans but they have to be tapered in at the ankle. Flared ones make me look like a colonial lampshade from the rear end!

I usually wear black pants or jeans in the winter. In the summer I always wear black or white capris. I wear flat soled shoes, usually a walking shoe or sandal, or ankle high boots. I am fond of colourful foot wear. The ankle boots are tomato red and my other boots look like the kind that wrestlers wear. I have two black leather vests, one is quilted leather. In the summer I wear a lot of baggy linen stuff, usually white. This is because it gets very damn hot and humid up here. But no, no cowboy boots although many years ago I used to have a pair in lavender leather! They were pretty cute.

I hardly ever wear dresses or get dressed up. I would rather have elective surgery than get dressed up and this is why I rarely agree to go to weddings. I end up feeling like a cowboy in drag.

Both coats are lined with sheepskin, black sheepskin. One coat is black and the other is paprika coloured. Both are suede. They are both great looking coats. Too bad they never get to see the light of day anymore.:cry I also have a beautiful black leather winter coat that I inherited from my mother a couple of years back. It has a black fur collar that reminded me of one of my cats, Norton, and so we used to refer to the coat as Norton.

Oh BJean, your coat does sound wonderfully luxurious! I've got polar boots and a couple of sheepskin coats, myself. None of this stuff is of any use up here where I live. Why don't we agree to spend a week together in Colorado? Could be fun for us and for our winter clothes,.......eh. Green is really missing the snow.:cry She is, afterall, a Canadian.

There is much weather weirdness going on. It has been noted that Canada's capital is the second coldest capital city in the world, right after that of Ulaan Bator, the capital of one of the Mongolias - either inner or outer, Green can't remember. Through this fine capital city snakes the Rideau Canal which always freezes up during the winter months. Indeed, many government workers, including elected parliamentarians, have traditionally skated to work during the cold months. This year the only option available is travelling by boat.

I like tzatziki so much that I will eat it straight up with a spoon. Of course it is also good as a dip or eaten with roast/bar-b-queued meat or with crackers. I buy these crackers that are very high in fibre; they are called Finn Crisp and I think that they are delicious. Summer Fresh makes very good tzatziki that is not high in calories. Summer Fresh also makes an Asiago and Artichoke Dip that is to die for but it is kinda high in calories. I sometimes eat it with Finn Crisps since they are so low in calories and so high in fibre.

Clothing for fat people are, of themselves, a warning against obesity; they don't need no stinkin' labels. I never realised before I got fat that I would be entering into the Land of Ugly Clothes. I think that one of the reasons that I got banded was so that I could wear natural fibres again. (Green is the president of the Let's Kill Poly and Ester Movement.)

I get my protein from eating those little cans of prepared tuna. They have snap-off lids. I love the Thai and the tuna with lemon and pepper the best. I also eat a lot of tzatziki - yogurt with cucumber and garlic. These are foods that taste good and all you require is a spoon and a recycle box for the tubs they come in. So very, very easy for a lazy grrl!

I have heard that if you don't eat enough you will be working against the band. The body will go into starvation mode if it doesn't get enough calories and then you still won't lose weight. This is not a good or healthy state to be in, kiddo.

I am with you, Missy. I am always hot and sweaty. My internal temperature is haywire and this is why I absolutely loathe the summer. I spend it inside with the A/C running and fans running, too. And I am one of those blondies with a redhead's skin; I don't tan. I dread global warming. Our summers up here in central Canada can get pretty nasty. Very, very hot and humid and with lots of toxic air advisories. Ugh!:help:

I, too, have been growing increasingly irritated by the smug and less than compassionate tone of this writer. Her advice may be solid enough but her delivery leaves a lot to be desired. It strikes me that the strength of this website is that the membership is free to post on all sorts of issues, those directly concerning the lapband, weight, and those that have to do with other aspects of life in the 21st century. Wonderkidsmom has come to us with a very serious problem, and why shouldn't she? In presenting her issues to us she is able to draw upon the expert advice and emotional support of a lot of women who have already worn the divorce T-shirt. All she is seeking is advice and emotional support.... Here she is able to do this in a safe environment, away local gossips or anyone else who might have an agenda. It seems to me that the above quoted writer has not been reading this thread very carefully or else she has been projecting something of herself, something of her own situation, something which does not belong here. She ends her post by screaming at Wonder to "get HELP, LEGAL help!!!!!!!!" In fact Wonder has often stated that she does have an attorney. I for one would like to see this thread continue. I wish to hear how life unfolds for Wonderkidsmom.

And up here in Toronto, Canada, we haven't seen snow yet this year. Our daytime temperatures have been in the 40s and 50s. I've been wearing shoes and light jackets. I have a couple of gorgeous sheepskin coats that haven't been getting much use over the last few years. I would love to see some snow - just for the novelty of it. In our part of the world the ski resort operators are crying the blues. Perhaps I should visit Colorado - if I can get a flight in that is.
