Anyone in the DFW area?
Hi Richard, Thank you and yes, my name is really Dieta. It was my grandmothers name and really does, get ready to laugh, mean "diet" in spanish. Yes, its true. But now I am not dieting anymore, just banded on August 23, 2007, I think sad thing is I can't remember the actual date now, close to the 23rd though. I guess I am so used to my band I don't think about my band date now. Thank you for inviting me to the meeting. I will see if I can attend. Dieta

Banded on Thursday and cried yesterday
I know exactly how you feel. I felt the exact same way. I still can't sleep directly on my port and yes, I am now to the point that I don't always feel it in my stomach. I have thought several times that I wanted it to be taken out but then a new day starts again I feel better. It will get better, just give it time. Soon you will be giving your band a name and joking about it the way we all do here. I really hope you feel better soon.

Have you named your band?
I call mine my little alien baby. I freak out the techs everytime I go for a fill, they all stop and get this look on their face. It's great!

How to tell when you have enough
I have been banded since August 23, 2006. I used to wonder the same thing now with time and experience I have been able to distinguish when I have had enough to eat. I agree with what some others have said, that you don't actually feel full, but you feel not hungry anymore. I believe everyones body is different and you will get to know yours. Dieta

Those of us without $$
I understand you must be feeling very lost and unhopeful right now. I will not claim to know how you feel. I was able get the surgery due to insurance at work. I was very lucky to have great insurance that paid 100% of the surgery. I won't post to keep trying. I know how it feels to want something so bad and not to be able to have it, even if you need it. All I can say is I hope you start to feel better.

How do you deal with the feelings of loss?
This was one of the hardest issues to deal with and can still be at times. I love cooking also and love the food network channel. I still enjoy cooking very much and my family still loves my cooking. I still eat what I cook I just eat less. My family eats band friendly now. One of the issues I am going through now is that when I am not even hungry my mind is still looking for a reason to eat. I am also an emotional eater and have been my entire life. I am taking it day by day, one day at a time and it is getting better. I hope it gets better for you also. Dieta

Filled to MUCH!
Last thurseday I got my third fill and I have felt the same way since then. I got sick 3 times that night. First time on apple juice and the next few times on nothing. I stayed home from work on Friday afraid I would get sick again, and I was not feeling well at all the whole day, weak and very thirsty. I can get liquids down but not as much as I used to. I have three small glasses of milk sitting in the fridge now I can't finish. I can eat solids but I eat a few bites and I get full really fast. I am burping more now than ever, it makes me feel better. I have lost 4 pounds since thurseday. I am grateful for the weight loss but the the price is heavy and painful. I am slowly able to eat solids again and hopefully it will get better, soon! Dieta

Why not admit to surgery...
I'm not shy about it either, if someone asks how I am losing weight I tell them and usually end up answering questions honestly. I have even had people ask to see how big my scars are I show sometimes.

What went through your mind the night before?
I hardly slept and was nervous as heck. The nervousness increased when I started to get undressed into my socks and gown. I hate needles, the pain from surgery I could handle but the needles made me go crazy! But then it was over and I was awake and banded after a little nap and it was cool.

Feeling down
I know how you feel. Sometimes my weight loss is so slow even when I am doing everything right I wonder if the band was the right thing for me to do. I am going on my 3rd fill on th 14th. I am starting to be able to eat more and get hungry more often so it seems to be about time. I hope everything gets better for you. In the end I do come to the conclusion that I am glad I got banded and it has helped me with my eating habits and my weight loss, regardless of how slow it is going. I am glad to know I am not the only one who feels the way I do.

What exactly IS a little bite?
My nutritionist says to eat food the size of a dime. It has worked for me, I have no problem eating. She also says to eat max time of 20 min. I am usually full in 15 and I stop then. Hope this helps.

Ladies - What Size Clothes to Cross Your Legs?
That was actually one of my goals along with being able to attach my towel all the way around my body without my tummy hanging out the side. Now I can do both. I am currently a size 18. I am not at the point that is is comfortable but I can do it for about 30 minutes, which is a great thing for me. Belle:clap2:

Let the Joyous news be spread: New Jersey votes yes on Gay civil union!
Me and my husband go back and forth on this issue. What I am about to say will probably get a lot of people mad, but here is my opinion. I don't believe in gay marriage. And here is the reason, when me and my husband were just living together he wasn't on my insurance from work. He wasn't allowed to use my insurance but one day I was on the doctors office and there was a man in front of me in line. He was asked for his insurance and he plainly said "I am on my partners" insurance and gave a mans name. Why can't my "partner" use my insurance card when he could use his "partner's" insurance card? I know that some people's bread is buttered on the other side and I have no opposition to that. You can love who you want to love but why make a fuss over wanting to get married to that person? If you truly love someone and you and the other person believe in your love why must you pronounce it to the world? I lived with my husband 3 years before we were married and let me tell you we do nothing different than we used to do as boyfriend and girlfriend. At least people who are gay have rights and they are not being discriminated against as much these days. Once again, I know this post will make some people very angry and I apologize ahead of time, but this is my opinion.

A spouses questions??
My poor hubbie and son have went through every stage of this with me it seems. When I first came home they kept liquids by my side and my protein shakes made. They still eat what they normally do but on my day off I cook and they know I have to make softer dishes and they don't complain. My hubbie is always looking at me when I put my hand on my stomach and asks me if I am ok. I agree when me and my husband out now we share a meal, an appetizer usually. He jokes and says I am sure a cheap date now. Just be supportive and make sure you know what stage she is in, the liquids, mushy or solids. She will find what she can't eat and what she can with ease and let you know. Just be the good husband you sound like and she and you will do fine. Belle

I'm Afraid!!!!
I felt the same way. I almost didn't go to the surgery center the day I was scheduled. I was shaking when I was filling the paperwork out. I finally calmed down when they gave me the calming medicine and before I knew it I was awake again and going home. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. Did it hurt? Me more than normal, but I am a chicken little but had a great husband who was very supportive from the very first. Has it been an adjustment? Yes, but it has been worth it. And finally, will it work? That is up to you. Sounds cheesy but it is true. The band is a tool you use to help you lose weight. You learn to pay attention to your bodies hunger signals again. You feel hunger in a different way. After the surgery when I was hurting so bad and couldn't cough without my stomach hurting like heck I questioned my decision. I felt like I had failed other things what was different about this one. Me, my mind had to adjust. Now I eat because I am hungry and not because I am upset or bored. You will be ok. We all have been and beyond. Soon you will be telling someone else the same thing. Good luck and see you soon banded. Dieta

What's your routine?
I get up at 5 am to take my husband to work (we only have one car), which is about 30 min away. Not too bad of a drive. I then come back home and get my son up and he leaves for school. I make myself a protein shake and go back to bed and sleep for a few hours. I get up about 11:00 and watch 1 hr of family feud, make my lunch, usually fish, single servings purchased at kroger. I then shower and get ready for work. I clean the cats litter box out, make sure they have food and water, take my dog out for a walk. I then get my lunch ready, get my things together and head to work. On my lunch break I head to the transit center to pick my husband up from the bus and he takes me back to work. I work 1:30 to 10:30. He picks me up and we head back home, I might do the dishes, we will watch a dvd and fall asleep. The next day we do it all again. I am off on Tuesedays and Saturdays. My husband is off on Saturdays and Sundays. I love Saturdays because I don't feel rushed and our family can spend quality time together. Tuesedays I get to sleep in, do laundry, clean house and watch tv. Dieta

Trouble eating first week out - anyone else?
I drank tons of juice, apple juice and orange juiice. I found I wasn't hungry but when I became hungry watch out, I had to eat then and not later or I would get horrible stomach pains. I relied on my shakes, apple sauce, mash potatoes, tomato soup, etc, anything soft because I found I couldn't take anything other than that. Just take it easy and you will progress to normal foods again. I had my surgery august 23, 2006 and I definitely found my list of foods that I have a hard time eating and other things I can eat perfectly fine. Your body will tell you when it is hungry and you will find the right things to eat so you can heal and not be starved but let me tell you, someone called it "bandsters hell" because you are not filled yet and your basically going on the basic band restrictions. It will get better though, mine did as I'm sure other peoples did. Dieta

Slow Losers - Unite!
I don't know if I am slow loser or not, I have lost only 22 lbs. since my surgery in Aug 23,2006. The month of my surgery I missed my period and in sept I had one right before my follow-up and fill. I felt the restriction and still do but I kept stepping on the scale and not seeing the pounds fly off like I expected and put my scale in the closet. I can only hope I have lost more and that I didn't have the surgery for nothing. I really hope this works for me. I have my next fill on the 24th of this month. So, I don't know if I qualify for a slow user, but I sure feel like it. Dieta

NEW HERE: should I or shouldn't I
I had also failed at losing weight on a permanent basis. I knew I had a habit overeating. In fact eating is all I thought about doing. I would drive down the road noticing fast food places and 7-ll thinking what I could get to eat. I had the surgery done on aug 23, 2006. I have lost 22 so far. I am losing at a steady pace. My clothes fit me better and I feel 100% better about myself. It shows in my personality and the best part about it is that my whole day is not consumed by food. In fact, I have to force myself to think about food and being hungry. It is such a great feeling. As far as it is right for you, that is a personal decision that I think everyone goes through. Right after you get it done you start questioning it again, or at least I did. But that phase goes away also. You'll figure out what you need to do for yourself and remember you can always come here and ask questions and receive support. Dieta

Chicken of the Fill
It is a breeze. I was scared to death because I hate needles, but it didn't hurt at all and it was over in seconds. I really have been able to eat less also. It will be ok. Maybe the nurse will hold your hand like she held mine. Dieta

Banded Thursday
I felt just like you, a friend of mine was banded and took meds one day. I took them for four days and though the tightness in my stomach was never going to go away. It bugged me to no end. But good news, I had my surgery Aug 23. My stomach doesn't feel tight anymore and have lost 22 or 23 pounds something like that. I have been a slow loser but I believe that is due to the fact that the month of my surgery I missed my period and then in sept right before my first fill on the 26th I started again and went for 7 days. That is the longest I have ever been since I was a teenager. I put my scale up in the closet because everyday I kept stepping on it and thinking I might have lost few pounds but I wasn't losing. But again, I think it was due to my period complications. Anyway, back to you. Good luck and take care of yourself, don't rush healing, your body will take care of that itself. Dieta

getting banded october 16 very nervous
Dear Tiredepot, I was banded on august 23rd. I am a big baby and do not tolerate pain very well. For three days after my surgery I was in big time pain. I felt bloated and had tons of gas, along with my body refusing to let any of it go. The one think that saved me and made me feel better was my walking my dog. He got walked more than ever. He was happy. Everyday the more I walked the better I felt. I would say 2 weeks after I started to feel normal again. The feeling of nervousness is normal. The other thing that kept me going was thinking about the future results of losing weight and my future new body that the lap band would help me achieve. Good luck on your banding and remember this board is a great source of help and information. You will also find a great source of support here. Belle

AUGUST Bandits
I have lost 17 pounds so far. I would have liked to lose more. I was banded on August 23rd. I have my follow up and fill on Tueseday 26th. I also don't know how to change my ticker either. I am so hungry sometimes and am still getting used to the difference in hunger and pain sensations.
