December Bandsters 2009
I know it was tough for me to handle the liquids!! The mushies are going well, except now I feel like I can eat and I'm suppossed to chew my food to applesauce consistency, but...it's already there!!! So I found it's really hard to take my time. I also went back to work full time this week, and that was tough. I thought all my gas pains went away, but I can feel it in my left flank/shoulder/neck. I walk daily try to drink all my liquids and I've been taking gas ex. It gets better every day!! My follow up shows I'm healing well...all 6 incisions! I go back Feb 5 for my first fill. Good luck!!

December Bandsters 2009
I started mushies today and I am so excited. I made some chicken in the blender. I also blended some peas and added Unjury unflavored protein powder to the blend, you can't even taste it! I had about 2 oz chicken, 2 oz peas for dinner which rendered about 19 g Protien. I'm drinking Natures Best Isopure throughout the day. I'm totally nervous as I'm going back to work in an hour! Here goes nothing!!!

December Bandsters 2009
I would suggest bringing pajama pants, or sweats. The morning after the surgery after my swallow study, I showered and put on my own clothes and slippers, that way while I walked around the halls I was comfy!! I would also suggest an ipod. It was helpful to sit in the recliner with my ipod and my book, when there was nothing on tv. Good Luck!!!!!!

Food addict/ post op cheating...
Thank you so very much. I was banded 12/21 and the past couple days I've gotten "brave" and been drinking more water/crystal light/carb free Isopure and once in a while I got this pressure like feeling in the top of my stomach, lower chest and I honestly thought it was gas still. I was like I had to burp, but couldn't. Now it's good to know I drank too much too fast!! Is anyone else having a hard time with making 4 oz of liquid last 30 minutes?? I do ok with the Protein shakes, but I have a hard time with the soup...I often have to reheat it because it gets cold too quickly! To the original poster....I know how hard it is right now, believe me. But you did this for you. You have to make it work!! I had to leave the table at Christmas because I couldn't handle the trays of Cookies and the boxes of Fannie Mae floating past my face! I had my 4 oz tomato soup and I pouted...but as I said it's one Christmas! You made the decision to get healty. You are the only one who can make it work. We are all food addicts. Throw the Doritos out. We cleaned out all the cupboards and got rid of all cookies, chips, snack cakes all that stuff before surgery so it wouldn't be here to tempt me. My family is very supportive, I hope yours is too! Good Luck

Should I start pureed food tomorrow?
I don't know the answer for you. I've noticed that every doctor is different. My surgeon recommends, one week liquids post op, then one week mushies, the one week soft, then regular foods.

December Bandsters 2009
I bought Isopure clear fruit drinks at GNC, they are carb adn sugar free and offer 40 g protein in 20 oz. They are ok...rather sweet, so I tend to dilute with water. I also found six packs of Isopure at CVS which are 8 oz bottles, that offer 15 g of protein. Be Cautious!! The isopure I bought I bought at CVS is NOTcarb/sugar free!!! I didn't check this and I got hit. Each bottle contains 33 ga carb!!! I was shocked!! They are not Natures Best. So becareful, because I got hit by not paying attention and my blood sugar was elevated. I also bought the UNJURY chicken soup and unflavored. The unflavored mixed well in tomato soup and the chicken soup flaver I mixed in chicken broth to add my protein. I can't wait to hit the pureed foods!!! Any suggestion with that????

Stomach Growling and hungry
I'm so glad other people felt this way. I said to my family today....I eat my 4 oz and I wait my 30 minutes, then I drink my water then I wait again, and I've never truly felt full. My stomach is gurgling like crazy and my family looked at me like what was that? I'm having a hard time deciding if it's hunger or gas pains. So...I just stick to my diet and keep drinking my fluids, drinking water mixed with isopure in order to keep it down, too sweet/strong flavored. That way I get my protein in. I know it's gonna take time for my stomach to realize it's not quite as large as it once was....

December Bandsters 2009
I was banded Monday, stayed overnight in the hospital and came home last night. Full surgical details are on Surgery Stories post. I feel pretty good. I'm on this rotational eating...2-4oz liquids, 30 min rest, water for 30 min, rest 30 min, eat again. So I'm eating every 2 hours right now. Honestly, I don't feel very full after 4 oz and the literature is contradicting. It says to make sure you don't get your nutrients from liquid because they go right through the stoma and don't provide satiety, yet the first week you're eating liquid?? My stomach is growling and I'm quite gassy (to be expected) but, I feel pretty good. I can make it through these next couple weeks, I know I'll be just fine.

Protein post surgery??
I went to GNC and got the Isopure fruit drinks. THey only had a couple flavors without buying a case, so I tried pineapple/orange/banana and blue raspberry. THey're not so bad, they do have a funny aftertaste, but I think I'll be able to deal with it in order to get the protein in through the next couple weeks. 40 g Protein in 20 oz, with no sugar and no carbs is tough to pass. I'm testing my theory today in order to sip this bottle throughout the day.

December Bandsters 2009
I get banded tomorrow....I'm nervous. I lost 12 pounds pre-op. My doctor seemed ok with it, but I'm nervous!! I'm amazed at how different everyone's diets seem to be. I'm on clear liquids today and in the hospital. Then one week of liquids, one week blended foods, one week soft foodss, then week 4 onto regular diet. I think I would go crazy on 4 weeks liquid. I did 10 days liquid pre op and It made me crazy. It seemed I was so hypersensitive to every food, my poor husband was eating peanuts and I yelled at him to crunch elsewhere, of course that was day 3 when I really felt like I was going crazy.

Protein post surgery??
Lovjonz, I'm scared! My surgery is at 3pm tomorrow afternoon. I know I've been prepping for this for months, and it's here, but I'm scared. I'm scared to wake up with no band because I have a big liver! I know I've mentally prepared myself for this day, but I'm still nervous! "I'm like 90% excited 10% scared, or maybe its 90% scared 10% excited!":w00t: Good luck to you too!!

Protein
I also have the Bariatric Advantage Proteins, I have them in chocolate, Chocolate Mint and vanilla. The chocolate by itself is awful. But I have learned if I blend it with skim milk, ice cubes, and a banana. Thats good. I add bananas, frozen strawberries, frozen blackberries. Bananas is probably the most versatile and easiest addition. The only shake I can take without addition is the chocolate mint. Best of luck!!

Any one do just a 7 day liquid diet?
My doc usually requires the liquid diet for 15 days preop. I got away with 8 due to schedule. It's tough, but well worth it! Keep your eye on the prize!!

Protein post surgery??
Hi all, I have my surgery next Monday and I have some questions. Where can I buy the Isopure? Also, I've read some reviews on benefiber protein powder, and I'm not sure if I want to buy it, it only offers 6 g protein. Does an unflavored whey protein powder mix in hot foods as well as it does with milk and water? I'd like to add it to my mushy foods when I get to that point and I don't think vanilla and chocolate will go over so well with potatoes or blended chicken  Help please!!!!!!

Pre-Op meal replacement shakes
Is anyone else on these meal replacement shakes? I have to take them from now until the surgery, and although they taste pretty good, they always come out very very foamy. I mix mine with milk because it tastes better then water. Any suggestions to cut down the foam???

who else started mushies day after surgery?
I get banded next week, I just had a meeting with hospital nutritionist concerning post surgery diet. The recommendation from my practice is 1 week liquids, 1 week pureed/blended foods, 1 week soft foods, week 4 regular foods.

December Bandsters 2009
I get banded on 12/21 as well. I just started the meal replacement shakes today, although I've been quite full, I am having a hard time because I want to chew something....anything!!! I tasted turkey and gravy baby food yesterday in preparation for the pureed food week, although it tasted like turkey, I had a really hard time with the texture. Any suggestion for that week?? I can't imagine how I'll get 60 g of protein in that week...

Hi There,
Hi There! I'm new to this forum, but I'm glad I joined. I'm 31 years old and I have been battleing obesity since I was 15, I had tried all diets and had always lost weight, just never kept it off. So, I started researching lap band surgery 2 years ago and for the most part was "sold" but couldn't get up the courage. I began this journey in August attending my seminar, and now I'm 10 days from surgery 12/21/09. I'm doing my pre-op diet of meal replacement shakes right now. It took me a long time to come to this decision, but I'm glad I did. I'm very nervous about the pureed diet week because I have huge issues with texture of my foods. I tried buying the turkey baby food because the jar has 8g of protein, but I can hardly get it down!! Any suggestions on how to make this week easier? I know its 3-4 weeks away, but I'm trying to buy things now so that I'm ready. Amy
