August 2010 anyone?
I have been having some pretty bizarro dreams about surgery lately. I told my mom about them and she just laughed at me. I go for my pre-op with the surgeon on the 19th- next monday and then start my 2 week diet on Tuesday. We are driving from Austin to Denver during that time and will be gone for 9 days. At least I will have things to keep my mind off of surgery. And Im glad Im doing high protein/low carb instead of all liquid. That would be miserable being stuck in the car driving for 4 total days to and from.

Tomorrow is the BIG day!!!

LapBand vs. Gastric Sleeve
The problem I see with this arguement for the sleeve (fewer lifestyle restrictions) is that if you don't change the way you eat then you are more likely to gain back all of the weight that had been lost. I think it would supremely suck if I lost a TON of weight but gained it all back because I chose a tool that allowed me to have fewer lifestyle restrictions.

Surgery while having period?????
If you have ever had a baby Im sure the panties and pads are the same that you would get post-partum. Not pretty but it gets the job done!

I'm so tired of playing games with the insurance lady HELP!!
First of all, who in the world is that woman telling you that you need to stop calling your insurance company???? I can't believe the nerve of her. Second, have you called and talked with the office manager of the doctors office? Hopefully its a different person and you can complain about what this woman is doing. Its unacceptable how unprofessional she is.

1st day of the Liquid Diet...
Good luck...you can do it! I cant believe your surgery is so soon!

Surgery cancelled!!!
surely you wouldnt have to start all over just because your surgeon quit. First I would find out if this doctor is planning on moving to another hospital and is going to continue to see his current patients. If not, then get a copy of your records and find another doctor. And I would NOT pay for copies of your records- its not your fault the doctor screwed this up for you.

Please help I'm a standstill with my surgeon's office...
I would call back and ask to speak with the office manager to discuss with her what this lady has been pulling. If not, then definitely mention it to the doctor. That is just unacceptable. And how awesome that you dont have to do the 6 month diet! That freakin rocks!

I have my psych eval and nutrition appt set up...
My insurance did not pay for the nutrition or exercise consult but I do have psych coverage so I didnt have to pay for that visit. The nutrition consult was $100 and the exercise consult was $75.

High protein/Low carb Pre-Op diet anyone?
Thats awesome! Congrats on the weight loss!

High protein/Low carb Pre-Op diet anyone?
I have to do no more than 30 gms of carbs and AT LEAST 70 gms of protein. They gave me a list of different proteins and carbs and the serving size and how many gms of carbs in each serving. Then the day before surgery I am on a complete liquid diet but Im just grateful its not 2 weeks of liquid. I think I can handle the low carb/high protein diet.

August 2010 anyone?
I just talked with the surgeon's office- pre-op appt is scheduled for July 19th, will start my 2 week pre-op diet on the 20th and then surgery is scheduled for August 3rd! I wish I could do it sooner but an already paid for vacation is preventing that. :scared2:

August 2010 anyone?
Hey guys! My name is Amber and Im 35 years old and have already received my approval for surgery! Im supposed to hear from the surgeon's office tomorrow to set up an appt for my pre-op visit to set a surgery date. I would love to have it done in July but we are taking a week vacation to Colorado and I dont think it will be the best thing if Im just recovering from surgery when we have to drive 2 days to get there plus being on a liquid or pureed food diet. So Im thinking surgery is going to be the first week of August. Im 5'2' and weigh 263- Ive lost 14 pds on my 6 month diet.

A big Texas Howdy to you!!

Surgeon says I can't lose any weight...
My surgeon's office gave me a chart for the doctor to fill out every time I went in to see him on what my weight loss efforts had been. It was a generic form that would satisfy most insurance company's requirements. He just needed to document my weight, what I had been "trying to do, and any behavior modifications that he recommened to help me lose weight. I did not ever journal what I ate and to be quite honest didn't try really hard to diet to begin with. I've been there, done that and if it really worked for me then I wouldn't need the lap band to begin with. The surgeon's office said I didnt have to lose any weight but just to make sure not to GAIN any.

Explain the process please I'm sort of lost...
My insurance required a 6 month diet and the surgeon's office wouldnt even submit to insurance before the 6 month diet was up. But the day that I went to my PCP for my last weigh-in I faxed the information to my surgeons office who then faxed the necessary paperwork to insurance that day. And I received approval in less than a week!

First Consult and the Hard Sell
When I went in for my initial consult the surgeon was telling me that people do lose more weight on the by-pass and with my BMI being so high NORMALLY she would recommend by-pass. BUT she also said its more for people who have over 200 lbs to lose and while my BMI is high its that way because Im short. Im 5'2" and weight 275 (at the time I saw her) which is why she said my BMI was higher. She thought I would do well with the lapband and I need to lose about 140 lbs. I would get a second opinion. Even if the doctor is over an hour away a second opinion is invaluable. you may decide you really like that doctor and dont mind the drive for the peace of mind you will have in being comfortable with your doctor. Good luck!
