  1. It was both. It was what I ate, how fast I ate and how little I chewed. Honestly, I didn't even realize what had happened until 4 hours later. It was half of a cheese burger with only one piece of the sourdough bread. So the whole pieces of beef are probably what is stuck. I can still feel it go up and down my throat as I swallow today. =( I guess this is a good lesson to learn "before" I get a fill because it would be much worse then. I called and spoke to the nurse and she said there is nothing I can do but drink as many warm liquids as I can, take Vitamins and be sure to get Protein drinks in. NO solids until it clears. I am scheduled for a barium tomorrow just to make sure there is no damage to the esophogus. I just hope posting about my mistake keeps you guys aware and from making the same one.
  2. I was on liquids all day today and mushy mac and cheese for dinner (1/4th of a serving left over from my 2 yr old). I am still stuck and it hurts with every swallow. I drank hot tea all day and had hot soup for breakfast and lunch. I would say it feels a "fraction" better and thats it. I will see how it goes tomorrow. If it doesn't get better soon, I will become very worried. Pebbles, I haven't had my fill yet either. For everyone who has had their fill and is resuming weight loss, Congratulations!! That is great news to hear!
  3. Welcome Bill, If you are trying to get insurance to pay for it, I would call your insurance company and see what is required by them to pay for the WLS. For example, if they require a dietician interview and sessions and you need a recommendation from your PCP for them, then ask him for that, not necessarily his opinion if you need the surgery or not. IMO, "YOU" are the only one who will be certain if you need the surgery. Skinny people and unsupportive Dr.s are going to tell you to just diet and excersize, hence the call you received from the Dr.'s nurse. You qualify for the surgery with your BMI and sleep apnea, alone, not including your higher percentage of getting Type II diabetes and possibly higher blood pressure. So there is no question that the surgery will benefit you. If you are 100% certain that you are ready to move forward, I think you should approach the Dr. and tell him this is a decision that you have made and you need his recommendation to continue. Good luck.
  4. Welcome Lisalee, I adore this site as well, so I know exactly how you feel. Have you found your september 2006 bandsters thread? It is where you share your experience with people in the exact same phase that you are going through. I found my August Bandsters to be irreplacable. There are over 110 of us in August 2006 alone. The best feature I found on this site is the "search". It is in the middle of the blue navigation bar on top. I just had a crisis myself yesterday and the info I found was priceless to help my situation. Welcome lisalee!
  5. Oh guys I really screwed up! I was on a plane yesterday including the airport and didn't eat for 7 hours, maybe 8. I was sooooo hungry. We picked up dinner and without realizing I must have just scarfed it down. I only ate about 8 oz. or less but I realize now that I must have swallowed most of the bites whole. I was soooo hungry. The rest of the evening, everytime I swallowed and even still now, I felt a tight restriction in my throat. Now the location is sore and raw. In the middle of the night, I woke up to some food unlodging, however the restriction in my throat is still there. I imagine I still have more food stuck. I have put myself on warm liquids only until my esophagus heals. I thought I would share my experience so that others are more careful during long trips and don't put themselves in the position I put myself in.

Congrats! great job! Keep up the good work.
  7. OK, I hope I am not being a hypochondriac here.... I have been on vacation for the last week. I am 5 weeks out from surgery. My Dr. specifically recommended that I not get a fill right before going on vacation, so I didn't. I have not be eating "perfectly" per say, but I have been chewing and chewing, Proteins first, then veggies then carbs, 6 oz at a time. Every now and then, I would graze on a nibble when I was not hungry, but nothing huge. I did have 1 soda there and one when we got back (not flat). I had wine, no beer, no throwing up. For two days now, everytime I swallow I feel like I have tightness or something stuck in my throat. I will call my Dr. first thing in the morning... I was just wondering what any of you guys think? :cry:paranoid
  8. Awwwwwww, Pebbles I am soooooo sorry, you are having the worst luck of us all. =( I wish you the best and hope that you recover before your trip later this month.
  9. Hey gals, I am on vacation in Outer Banks, NC that's why I haven't on the boards much. I flew here so whoever asked about flying, you will be just fine. I will say that I fit in the seat much better than I did two months ago. =) My September goal was really ridiculous. I wanted to be around 199 for my trip here, I got down to 207, which was 12 pounds for the month. I am happy with that and my October goal is onederland! =) So 8 pounds. I am soooooo addicted to my scale and I am going crazy here without it. I don't have a fill and there is food Everywhere here. I feel like I am grazing all day long. I wish I knew how much I weighed so I would know if I needed to be careful. At meals, I am definitely not eating much. For example, one slice of pizza, or one hotdog no bun with a few doritos. My best friend definitely noticed that I am not eating very much and she asked me if anything was wrong. She is used to seeing me "pig out". Keep up the good work everyone. By the way, whoever said they only lost 8 pounds, I still think that is very good weight loss. It is recommended to only lose 2 pounds a week. Everyone on here knows how you feel about wanting "more" gone. I visualize the skinny me all the time. I keep teasing my friends that next year I won't "float" in the pool so easily. ha ha ha.
  10. I always suspected they used whatever methods they wanted to use anyway, regardless of the official "laws" of the Geneva Convention. Hmmmm, Maybe I watch too much television, i.e. 24. LOL.
  11. wonderkidsmom, I wanted you to know that I was thinking about you. I don't have a lot of experience in this matter, however you are in my thoughts. I think LadyK and MarySue33 said exactly what I was thinking even though my thoughts would not be based on experience however they expressed what I was feeling about your situation. I wish you continued courage.
  12. Boo Boo Kitty, I am glad you are feeling better about your NSV now. I agree, this will be one of those funny stories that you tell for years to come! Keep up the good work!!!!
  13. Have you checked out your October bandits thread? It is where all of your October bandits share your experience together. I have posted the thread for you. http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=23737&highlight=october+band good luck! It was the best decision I have ever made, well about my health. he he.
  14. Wow, thanks for the link. What I thought was 4oz. of meat was more like 2oz. I can't eat anything the size of my palm. I can only eat the amount about half the size of my palm, especially meat. I don't have large hands either really.
  15. My 5th day after surgery was the worst. All pain except my port area completly faded by day 10. I couldn't wear an underwire bra for about 12 days instead, I wore those fitted camisoles. I am still tender at my port if I press and poke on it. However, now at one month post op it is harder to locate my port than previously. During the first 3 weeks I tought the port pain was never going to go away, however it eventually did, without notice.
  16. Btw, the last time I flew, I needed an extender belt. Tomorrow, I fly for the first time since surgery. After reading your post again for inspiration, I am now excited to see how the airplane seat belt fits!!! =)
  17. Anyone else out there that was or is very restricted one month post op? I haven't had a fill yet. All along I have been complaining about how restricted I feel, while reading everyone else's complaints about how "not restricted" they feel. I had two small bites of a ham and cheese sandwich this afternoon. It wasn't the first time I have eaten wheat bread. At work, I have half or fourth of a tuna sandwich on wheat often, however I have never eaten crust. Those two bites have been sitting so heavy in my chest for 3 hours. The bites weren't even good enough to want to be full on so little so long. =( On friday, I ate 1/8th of my lunch, literally and was full for 5 hours. Not necessarily that I am complaining, I expected to eat less the rest of my life, I just don't see many people who have had the same experience. I would like to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience.
  18. Welcome, I have been using this site for more than two months daily and I still find new things everyday. There is so much information here. Look for your scheduled surgery month of bandits. It is nice to talk to people who are going through exactly what you are as well as learn from "veterans". Also, search is very helpful. Go up to the blue navigation bar and in the middle you see "search", click on it and in the drop down box type anything you need to research. Your dr.'s name, ha ha I had to look up "trolling" anything you see and don't know what they mean. Oh and for inspiration, I look at before and after pictures almost daily. When I didn't have any significant results myself, I would use others results to see what it would be like eventually. Great inspiration thread while you are just getting started. Welcome and good luck!
  19. Nice, Nice! grats on the NSV!!!!!
  20. Awwwwww! I have no idea how I did that twice! It's nothing personal... I promise, cross my heart! :embarassed:
  21. Interesting statement. Coming from a poor family myself and being the only family member to graduate high school much less college, I have an interesting perspective that many at my education level may or may not be subjected to. All of my uneducated, underprivileged cousins have a minimum of 3 illegitimate children starting motherhood primarily at the age of 13. Each child is extra money per month from the government. Were the children fed, bathed, educated or receiving adequate medical care? Unfortunately, no. Were they neglected and abused? Unfortunately, yes. Do I think they should have been aborted instead of malnourished and abused? Well, no.....as I was once one of those children myself. Would an abortion have spared the children the abuse and neglect? Probably, yes.
  22. He he yea you look great too! I remember looking at your pics thinking to myself wow... 32 pounds and you can really tell. I was wishing that my 25 pounds would show that much, I had no idea that it did until I put the two faces side by side. Funny how our mind plays tricks on us and we see ourselves that way. I still saw myself looking like the picture on the left. When I showed my 12 year old son, he said that he has always seen me looking like the picture on the right. I just gave him a big hug at that point.
  23. Pelorojo, you are so sweet! So funny though, I absolutely hate my hair, LOL. After the chemotherapy, it grew back in curly. I have had long straight hair all of my life. The curly hair has been an absolute shock to me. The funnier thing is.... I have only had one hair cut and that was in July right before the reunion. Oh and um.... I am wearing one BROWN shoe and one BLACK shoe today =) I will be taking the special bus home from work today.....
  24. Waterlily, I have to say like many people have already posted, I know exactly where you are today too. I had a baby, then the baby was in the hospital for head trauma, then my father died while my baby was in the hospital (he lived with me) then two months later I was diagnosed with a terminal cancer. I too have a wonderfully supportive DH and now I am cancer free. It has taken me a LONG and HARD road to get to where I am today. I know all about watching things pile up and not wanting to get out of bed. I think you did the right thing going to your Dr., however don't expect immediate or instant results. I came out of my deep depression like a flower blooms in slow motion. It happened slowly over time. Don't beat yourself up over this any longer and do what you can when you can and no more.....until you can add more. Stress of any kind will be detrimental right now. My internal stress that I put on myself was more stressful than any thing else, be aware of this and try not to talk negatively to yourself. You are not alone and these feelings happen to perfectly normal people.
  25. Funny how everything is relative. I mentioned that my son was in private school from K-2nd grade. They were not governed by at "TAKS" cirriculum and the teachers were free to teach anything and everything they wanted. Some teachers were very creative and came up with interesting ways to inspire and teach the children. Others were there to get paid and go home. I transitioned my son into public school for 3rd grade after touring the local public school and was very impressed with their video broadcasting room that the 5th graders used. Many other things were impressive for instance each grade had its own restrooms, so 5th graders weren't using the same restroom as the 1st graders. I really liked that because it seemed that it would cut down on older children bothering or picking on the younger children. I did notice that everything that was being taught was centered around the TAKS and geared for the TAKS. This didn't particularly bother me. However, my son's 3rd grade year was a difficult transition for us because he was behind in all of the subjects compared to all of the other students. We struggled together and eventually got caught up. I was quite shocked and a little dissappointed to learn that the "so called private education" that I had been paying for was "sub par" to what the children were learning in public school. The sadest part of the story is that my son was one of the most gifted children in the private school and often got extra assignments from the teachers so that he wouldn't be bored in class. So, if my son was getting a "sub par" education with above and beyond what the other students were getting in the private school, how would the other students measure up? They will be in for a rude awakening come time for college preparation tests.
