  1. Also, melon can cause mucus. There is an old adage about melon, "eat it alone or leave it alone".
  2. What i cannot understand is why people want to act like what works for them should work for everyone??? I mean, seriously? I HAVE to eat low carb. My blood sugar will go completely out of control and I will get into serious trouble. For those who dont have it, I am actually very happy for you. God bless you. You have a better metabolism than I do. I tell people what works for me, and expect them to figure out what works for them. NEVER...NEVER...NEVER would I come on her and do a fake "shudder" over someone elses diet. Lord, what is wrong with people here? As if it isnt bad enough having the whole world watch us eat, now we have to catch it from people who should be more understanding.
  3. I eat 1200 to 1500 daily. I just make sure to choose wisely and eat every 2 hours even if it is half an apple with a slice of cheese.
  4. CleosMom, something just isnt right. Have you talked to your primary doctor to see about maybe seeing an Endocrinologist? And I dont blame you about not wanting a device that is causing your pain. I was very afraid that the band would not work for me. I have never been able to loose even 15 lbs. I went on the liquid diet back in the eighties (or was it ninties?) and lost, but not enough to keep me on the program. I got kicked off because they thought I was cheating and not being truthful. Now that was a kick in the gut. So, it really was worrisome for me. The thought that I might go thru something so sever and still not loose. Right now, it seems to be working, but I am still very early on. I may wind up in your shoes.
  5. I am spending more because I am still in the beginning stages and relying heavily on the liquid shakes, which are expensive. Plus all the suppliments are very expensive too.
  6. You did good!:willy_nilly:
  7. Check here, their classes are by voluntary donation... Taoist Tai Chi Society of the USA - Tallahassee FL If not, there are places like the YMCA and other organizations who have better rates.
  8. I was banded on a Tues. and back to work the next Mon. I really didnt need any help while off. The most helpful think my sister did for me was remember what the nurse said before discharge. I was hurting so bad, I didnt remember anything she said the next day.
  9. My mom has been doing a diet right along with me. When I was on liquids, she was making Soups for her and my dad. As soon as I went to mushies, she was blending things. LOL We arent even in the same state. But she was suffering by proxy with me.
  10. Start getting up to go for a walk and drag him with you. Or better yet, when he brings those food offerings, make him rub your feet instead. What ever you do, try to keep a sense of humor. It really does help.
  11. I usually do the carat sticks while my guy does the wings. I will steal one wing from him if I just cant resist.
  12. Right now I am doing Curves 3x a week, weight training 2x a week and will soon be adding Tai Chi and maybe Yoga. I also walk a lot. Any time I feel the urge to eat something, or go drinking, or any other number of bad habits, I will go for a walk instead. I am trying to switch my bad habits for good habits. Now if I could do something about my internet time...
  13. I think Doctors opinions vary. Mine said yes and I drank it.
  14. I am going to start classes. I had been traveling to Dallas to attend some Sufi breathing and movement classes that have been discontinued. Tai Chi and Yoga are the closest things to them so I am going to switch for now. Hopefully will get back to my original studies soon.
  15. I have a 14cc band and have little restriction. The only true restriction I have felt came after my first (and only) fill. Personally, I dont think mine qualifies as a placebo because it is very real. I learned just how real it is when I ate 2 green Beans too quickly. For me, controlling my hunger has to do with watching what I put in my mouth. Not all calories are equal.
  16. I am still really new and hunger is a huge issue for me. I have to watch my carbs. I was drinking a small glass of unsweetened lite cranberry juice in the morning with my Vitamins and by 9 am my hunger was out of control. I switched to a small drinkable yogurt and dont have the PAINS like I did. I realize everyone is different. I can only tell people what is working for me. For me, I do 1/2 cup max meals 5-7 times a day. I focus on Protein and veggies. I do eat other things, but I always have some fat or protein with my carbs to try to limit their affect on my blood sugar. And once again, this is not for health reason as I do not have diabetes. It is to help me control my hunger which can get out of control on the small meals. When my hunger is out of control, I choose poorly, eat quickly and dont chew like I should....all of which will get you in big trouble with a band.
  17. Have you tried eating lower carbs? I know when I eat too many carbs, my hunger goes out of control and I think I am starving to death.
  18. Starbucks Banana Chocolate Vivano shake (270 cal.) Chick-fil-a order of scrambled eggs (you can add a cup of fruit if you need it) Microwave scrambled eggs (I love these) Drinkable yogurt (my fav) Cranberry orange breakfast barley. I make it one weekends and it keeps for about a week in fridge. Just microwave and eat.
  19. This is similar to my experience. And like the prior poster said, the swelling increased the restriction so once it goes down, so will your initial restriction. Depending on how aggressive your doctor is, you might not get much restriction on your first fill. As for the hunger pains, mine were terrible and are getting somewhat better. I have to really watch my carbs as they send my blood sugar out of control and my hunger goes into overdrive. I try to stick to Proteins and veggies mostly. I think the reason most docs want to go slow is to allow your band to get settled in right. It needs to form some scar tissue around it to stabilize it. So try to not over eat. I know it is hard. Me personally, I eat smaller meals more frequently. I dont want to stretch my pouch or cause my band to shift.
  20. I gave it up years ago. But anytime I am in the convenience store and see a bag of Andys Hot Fries (the chips), I want an iced cold diet coke bad. As a teenager, I used to love the two together. I drink a lot of tea. Both the traditional iced black tea and herbal teas. If you havent tried it, hibiscus tea is wonderful and good for lowering blood pressure. It tastes like cranberry juice to me. Here is a youtube video on how to make Jamaica. I use honey or, but you can use whatever artifical sweetener you like.
  21. All that was me. I had he hernia repair when earlie I had been told I was clear. The pain was aweful. I survived on opiates. The things that helped me were walking and my boyfriend patted my back like a burping baby a lot. I cant recall exactly how long it took to feel completely pain free, but the gas pain in the shoulder lasted the longest.
  22. Yes, there is a formula that will tell you within a range how many calories you should be eating/burning. My doctor and nutritionist visits are free and my boyfriend is my trainer.
  23. Accountability of food Goal setting Being able to tell your doctor/nutrionist/trainer what you daily caloric intake is so they can do their job.
  24. To a certain extent. I am not obsessive about it, nor do I log daily. But I do keep track in my mind.
  25. I was scheduled for a fill today but they said I was doing good and didnt need one. This was my 3rd appointment and I have only had one fill. My goal was 60lbs a year. I honestly hope it starts slowing down some. I would rather go slow and come out looking better than to go super fast and wind up looking worse for the wear. I am still doing a lot of liquids. The liquids are pretty much out of laziness, I dont have to think about what to eat.
