  3. Hi there- my cousin just went thru this in November, after her 14 day regimen which she followed to a T she was clear of the infection when retested at 4 weeks. (the meds can make you tired) good luck, and don't let this get you down just a small obstacle to overcome, be glad they tested for it and found it before the suirgery- good medical team.
  4. I use the premier Protein shakes from costco and the Protein Shakes from Traders Joes (pre-canned) both are tasty, high protein and 110-150 calories another i would suggest altho not breakfast is the Isopure zero carb 40g protein - it comes in several flavors availble at Vitamin shoppe, GNC and online
  5. Hi There- First off do look for teh support group for those banding in Feb 2010 - just scroll down you'll find it. So, very, very helpful to get adfvice and share with those at the same level as you. I had surgery dec 15th you can see by my ticker when i started the process i was 378, i'm proud to say I'm almost down 50lbs and its just been so great. Just a little more than half that loss is post op. There is also a mentor/buddy thread on here with great wonderful folks who have been in your shoes. Keep coming back and check out those success stories, it so reassuring to 'talk' with others. There is also a chat room which I have been in a couple of times to ask questions I needed answers to righ now! Good luck in your journey. t
  6. My 6 months required I meet with a nutritionist 3 times and attend 3 shared medical appointments. For me it was more about achieveing the new habits that are so important to the band. Some are below not all applied to me. 1. quit smoking 2. quit caffeine/bubbly drinks 3. cut sweets 4. cut drive thrus 5. learn to eat slowly 6. learn small bites 7. learn to chew 8. learn to drink 64 ounces and sipping it!~ 9. good nutrition 10. what will your stomach hold post band? 11. identify other challenges in your everyday life to success with teh band 12. lots of discussion on protein, protein, protein 13. execise regimen so you can get the idea mine was less about what are you doing today and more about what are you doing to today that could sabbotage your future success as you will find on here every medical team has different requirements so be sure to follow what has been set forth by yours over anything posted on lbt
  7. Hi There- I had surgery Dec 15th so I may not be the best to answer your questions but I'm on full foods. The vomiting - I haven't had/done any. You cannot see my port- it you push around hard I can feel it but thats it. First fill is scheudled 2/2 feel free to ask me questions,.
  8. when i traveled a couple of weeks ago I packed some starkist snack kits and bumble bee chicken salad kits - both were in my carry on and I had no problems. I also found muscle milk lite in the airport. I also just to make sure packed a Protein shot - it was a little bottle less than 3oz and I got it at GNC I also packed a couple of packages of cream of wheat and oatmeal - you can always get hot Water at a restaurant.
  9. I've had thyroid problems for years - my PCP has a standing order at the lab for me to test every 6 months. I suggest anyone having challenges to do the same to get a good read over time.

  12. I was banded Dec 15th and I'm on regular foods now. You should realy contact your nutritionist or medical team to see what is best for you. Check out the Dec Bandsters under 2009/December we have a thread there also under Community/Social Groups/Dec Bandsters we have a thread on what folks are eating I'm eating a lot of the small tuna cans with wheat crackers (5 crackers) limiting Protein drinks to no more than 2 per day Soups scrambled eggs with laughing cow cheese thinly sliced ham popsicles greek yogurt with honey grilled chicken and veggies I keep total food under 3 ozs per meal Tina
  13. hi there this has been a topic in my shared medical appt many times i would suggest you speak with a therapist to help you thru this i have heard in my group many post op patients who substituted alcohol for food and just swapped out addictions you have identified that you need help and support which is a huge step so congratulations!
  14. a program fee? really? separate from any deductibles? My first thought is what is their primary goal - geting you helathy or making money off of you. As oithers have siad your life is worth more than $600 but I don't think you should have to pay more than what your insurance requires. If I had been told I needed to pay this type of fee, I would have have found a different surgeon and medical team where my life and well being trumped their profit.
  15. I have had the same issue but right side - tt doc for me its muscular from where the port is (rt side)
  16. its very, very normal 2 days before surgery i broke down and cried, sobbed becuase i felt like such a failure that i had to have someone/some thing 'help' me lose the weight i gained i got it together sucked it up and realized how thankful i am i have some one - some thing to help me AND that I realized I needed the tool. Once I put my mind to it (for the 2nd time) I was ready to roll and I have not regretted
  17. I'm 5 weeks post op. I'm not married. The 6 months leading up to surgery and the 5 weeks since have been very tedious. I have had to watch my food, exercise, attend appointments and classes. I could not have made it without a large amount of support from my family and close friends. At a couple of points I had some stressful situations arise at work and I wondered if I could make it thru this and still 'keep it together'. I guess you need to decide the priorities first - the divorce or the band? if you haven't already started your journey for the band keep in mind that could take 3 to 6 months. At times i felt the changes in my life were overwhleming I couldn't manage a divorce or breakup mixed in with it but then again, you have so much support from a medicaly team and therapist ... maybe that would help.
  18. like others I say a small wendy's chili - it has bailed me out many, many times I purchased a number of starkist and bumble bee lunch kits and put them in my desk at work for just such occasions. Grab some when you are at the grocery they have tuna and chicken - my nutritionist approved them. Good luck-
  19. miso soup - strain it french onion soup - strained jello sugar free popsicles
  20. I'd suggest reading some of the threads on success stories, complications and other types of surgery. Also you can search threads - just type in a key word and you will find many postings
  21. I have the full mask covers mouth and nose. When I'm under the weather I turn the humifier up to like 7 or 8, use afrin and put a little mentholatuem just inside my nostrils. Mucinex is an awesome over the counter product if you can take it for drying things up.
  22. Hi there- I grew up in Desoto County, Mississippi and have lived here in California for almost 10 years. Was banded 12/15/09 so please feel free to ask questions
  23. So, we are all banded and started a New Year, a New Decade and on the way to our somewhat 'new' and improved selves. To keep us all motivated and moving in the right direction (down on the scale) thought I'd throw out a challenge. Now we already have a Valentine's Day challenge going and that is just 6 shorts weeks a way! so let's keep it rolling. I'm going to try for 40lbs, yes I know its a lot but me and Mr. Treadmill/Stationary Bike were reintroduced this week and well I believe I've started a love affair. 24. Since this was the PREOP thread can we close it and use the Delights thread? It seems some folks are getting confused with the two.
