Which Band did you get?
i went with the lap band 10cc i actually researched in MEDICAL JOURNALS and reviewed medical trials for both band types I chose lapband because they had a lesser % of of port/port line issues than realize Do your homework - get a library card and/or visit a local university library I literally spendt about 40 hours researching - some you can find online but not all. In the end its what YOU are most comfortable with:smile2:

Pantry Prep
just keep in mind.... be sure to follow your doctors guidelines to the T for what to eat when regardles of what others say on here - your body, band and program is likely unique to you or at least your doctor with that said when i started feeling hungry again day 4 thanks to the swelling in my tummy going down i was still on Clear Liquids - the broth out of the box wasn't cutting it neither was Jello - i stuck with my clear isopure Protein drinks that had 40g of protein and drank whell slipped religiously when i couldn't stand it any more i sent a friend out to get restauarnt soup - french onion and homemade chicken noodle both from my fav rest. I had him strain off everything i couldn't ahve and i drank the broth - it was AMAZING how satisying that was just the different seasonings made me think fuller even tho in the end it was still broth

Band and Pregnancy
search the website and ou should be able to find the thread on the topic my doctor was very strict - we had to sign something acknowledgeing we would not even start to try to get preggers for 24 months - its not just a physical change but and emotional one as well even during my pysch consult this was reviewed as well i was banded dec 2010 and some one in our lapbandtalk community annoucned she was pregnant and she posts regualarly the struggles she is having when she has ben in the lsoing weight mode and now the must gain mode before lapband becomes your quick fix i would consult a fertility expert if you haven't already - you could have other underlying health issues you wouldn't want to take the lap band journey lose weight and then get frustrated further ttc

Worried about my cruise next week
oh the fish sounds yummy! I always start out with liquids, then add yogurt/applesauce and move to chicken with a tad of mashed potatoes - if that all goes well - then I give myself the go ahead to move forward to other foods. Hang in there it takes time but you will figure the band out.

Need to start full liquids!
hi lisa when i got to that point i picked up some Soup from a local restaurant and strained it. It was still clear liquids but the different spices etc.. made all the difference in the world. I did chicken noodle soup and french onion so worth it! and helped me stick with my docs orders

Worried about my cruise next week
well are you cruising to eat or relax and have a good time? if you are taking your tiny bites, chewing well, waiting 30 seconds between bites - not drinking for 30 minutes before or 1 hour after eating then yes I would call the doc and see if maybe you can get .1 or .2 ccs removed if you can't get any food down what about yogurt? chicken? was the fish breaded or dry in any way?

Worst Foods
i have a no rice, no bread, no Pasta - all these items can swell once in the stomach and stretch your band i haven't missed it at all - from time to time I have crackers or flaxseed chips to satisfy any desires also i have learned that no leftover proteins(chicken/beef/pork) that have been microwaved will pass thru my band - 2 major vomit episodes to learn that lesson but its learned they are just too dried out and it doesn't matter how much I chew I've also crossed broccoli off my list becuase it got stick once I pb'd

what happens when food gets stuck?
i would suggest using the serach option to find various different definitions for both as its different for everyone to some degree restriction- this is for me the point where i can eat right and sustain fullness until just before time for my next meal. It restricts how much I eat so I keep the amount of food eaten in check stuck - well there are two versions version 1 - pbing as its called here - productive burp this is where food gets 'stuck' an can't go down so your mouth produces more saliva and you usually have a mini vomit - it comes from your top stomach (above band) usually slime, thick slaiva and a piece of food version 2 - i call vomit this is where it is much more foreceful and comes from top and bottom stomach - for me it was brocoli getting stuck in the hole between the two tummys. Its scray (no lie there) but its a quick reminder to eat right and chew, chew, chew this version is the one most at risk of damaging your band

Hope I am not overfilled...
i also just had an overfill episode - exactly like adagays 1 cc on tuesday afteroon - by 7pm i couldn't get a sip of Protein shake down without gurgling by 11pm - trying to laydown for bed - i couldn't swallow my saliva. called the bat line for my surgeon and was in this morning for an unfill of the full 1cc once swelling goes down we'll try again .1cc at a time but we both felt i was within the sweet spot range and we were trying to manage my timeframes between meals/hunger

Afraid to eat...
follow your docs orders to a tee after surgery i think everyone is afraid to try the different stages of food but we all survived remember what you were taught in the process with sips, small bites and lots of chewing i worked myself slowly thru the food stages but above all follow your docs orders (not the message boards)

Actigall

Unfill before Trip??
Boy this has gotten crazy- I had surgery on 12/15/2009 - I have made 6 (business/vacations) trips in the US since then a total of 12 flights no unfill everything was fine. Doc asked me to keep Water on hand and sip thru out the flight but do not eat during flight as your band could get tighter. Vacations outside the US - my doc said as long as there were good medical services he would not recommend an unfill 'just to enjoy' food more. I'm planning a large trip in October and part of it includes a developing country - he is considering doing an unfill just because if there are any complications I will have no way to get medical treatment from a bariactric surgeon without traveling 7 hours by plane back to New Zealand. We will make that decision as I get closer to travelling seeing how I progress etc.. Hope this helps you - but in the end its a decision for you and your surgeon.

Banded May 5 and STARVING!!!
it doesn't last forever so calm down what i did was send someone to a restaurant to get french onion soup they brought it home and strained it for me the change in having that versus broth right out of the box was mind numbing next meal I sent him to get homemade chicken noodle soup for me and did the same thing the extra spices, whatever made a big difference for me My doc also cleared me for Jello and applesauce on day 5. hang in there

Disappointed with myself
My ins didn't require weightloss but after the ultrasound of my liver showed it was fatty my surgeon put me on liquids immediately. He explained that if he went in and the liver was too fatty/big it would be too dangerous to lift it to put the band around the stomach. He explained that in two occasions last year the patient woke up in recovery with no band for this very reason. I did the liquid diet for 8 days and lost 12 lbs and had my surgery as scheduled. I would suggest speaking with your nutritionist about what you are eating so you can get some weightloss in before surgery.

Yakking up pills
I was actually scared of getting something stuck - now that I have some experience with it - not scary (and it was on food not pills) The pain medication I was given right after surgery were horse pills because the ONLY liqud pain meds I am allergeic too - now that was fun. Every day I chew two multivitamins in the morning, take a VitD and VitB1 supplement and two prescriptions. I don't have any problems swalling them here at 6 months out but I'm 'full' for a few hours. Also you may want to ask your surgeon about supplements right after surgery. Mine had me double up on multivitamins for 4 days before surgery knowing I wouldn't be taking them for at least a couple of days after. If you have any additional questions feel free to ask.
