Not looking back
It sounds as though the records are incomplete because it would have documented his incompetence. You are going to be so happy now that it will soon be a bad memory.

XXL, hold the X please...
:thumbup1: Cool!

Nexium
When I fly on long trips, I've taken to wearing support pantyhose. It gives me just enough help to lessen the swelling I normally get on long flights.

Pain
Thanks. That is my plan. Obviously I'm not ready for anything heavier.

Since you asked...
Thank you for the forum. It is great. BUT, since you asked... I don't like the PM format. It is confusing to follow, especially after a few replies. That is JMHO. Thanks

Pain
Last night I tried my first food. I had a quarter cup of ricotta. I ate very slowly. Since then, through this morning, I have a pain in my back just to the left of my right 'wing'. Anybody else experience this? Is it something I shold be concerned about?

Super Size Me/Documentary
So many women don't cook family meals now. I worked, but we ate family dinner at home at least six days a week. Now they make a big deal about family home dinners and give high fives if they do it once a week. So where are the families? At the fast food joint. You can make good dinners that don't take a long time or a lot of money. You have to be a careful shopper. Fast food is not that cheap when you are going with a family. I know what you mean about leaving in the morning and only turning up for meals. We were out biking, skating, jumping rope, etc.

Some doctors should not be doing sleeves
This poor gal on OH is 2 1/2 weeks out and her doctor told her she could eat 1 - 1 1/2 cups of food at a meal and that she could eat regular food. food stuck in stomach some doctors should not be allowed to do the sleeves. How dare he not do his research beforehand? It is all out there. All he had to do was a web search.

I can't believe it
Tonight I dished out 1/4 of ricotta cheese. Even in my smallest dish it looked lost sitting there. Pre surgery that would not have filled my tooth. I looked at it and thought to myself that no way is this going to be enough for me. You know what? I think it was too much. I love the sleeve.

Did your doctor tell you an expected weight loss?
One year, you old whippersnapper you. No wonder we look to you for advice. :biggrin0:

Did your doctor tell you an expected weight loss?
:thumbup: Well said. I printed out photos of me in my youth when I still look GOOD. (Figuring the BMI charts now I never knew it was that low. I always felt fat because I weighed 136 pounds and my 5'2" friends all weighed 110.) Anyway, I brought them to Mexico with me and had them all around the room to remind me of why I was doing this. :biggrin0: Dr. Aceves came in and saw them and asked if that was me. I told him yes and he gave me the thumbs up. I told him that was what I was going back to and he gave me a high five. As I left the hospital he told me he wanted to see me when I got there. He was very encouraging and made me feel good. He never said "Oh, you're too old and you have too much to lose." That is the kind of doctor you want.

Did your doctor tell you an expected weight loss?
I think that is BS. I think it truly depends on you. If you are determined, you will get where you want to be. I post on another board that has been around a while and most people use the tickers, and you can see how amazingly well most have done. Some take longer than other, but the ones that apply themselves get to their goal weight. The ones that don't will post things like "I didn't plan to spend the rest of my life on a diet." No, you don't have to be on a diet the rest of your life, you need to make wiser choices.

Oo-oo-oo
Yep, you got it with the steri strips from your description. I had to pull them off as I could see redness of the skin developing under them.

Oo-oo-oo
When I have had other surgery they used a 'papery' type of surgical tape it doesn't seem to have the same adhesive. But I yield to the nurses here.

Oo-oo-oo
:001_tongue: They used some serious tape on the surgery sites. Not the cute little papery stuff we use that works itself off after it gets wet a few times. I noticed my skin was getting red under the tape and went to pull it off. It is stuck tight. It about takes the skin with it and I worry about the wound scab itself coming off. Plus I am not one of our esteemed RN's here so admit it was making me squeemish. :crying: I didn't take it off the large incision yet. I'll give it another day or two and then close my eyes.

Dr. Aceves :-)
He is the most caring doctor I've had since I was a little girl.

Being informed
At the present time and until I reach my goal, I'm on a diet, meaning I will be doing low end allowed. That incorporates a lifestyle change and the lifestyle change will be with me the rest of my life. Not that I don't expect to have a treat every now and again.

Relief of Post-op Gas
That's good information for future reference. I'm not sure if that would be allowed after sleeving. I'll leave that to others.

Why would you leave the US for surgery?
"If you don't like your insurance provider just change jobs???" How cavalier can you get? What world do you live in? You give up your job because you don't like the insurance carrier? Your job satisfaction, tenure, and other benefits don't count? That says nothing about the current economy where, if you have a job, you'd dang well better keep it. I could have paid to have it here in my city, but none of the bariatric surgeons had any experience with the sleeve. I voted for experience over locality. I've had surgery here and if you see your surgeon for five minutes after the surgery, you are lucky. I liked seeing my personal surgeon come to check on me three times a day every day I was there and that didn't include the visits from his assistant, the Internest and the Anesthesiologist both before and after surgery. Do you realize many of the doctors you currently go to have been trained outside of the United States because they could not get into medical school here? Your post is one of the most ignorant I've seen on any of the boards. Bah-bye, don't let the door hit you in the ass.

All liquids
I have to admit that I had a couple of Atkins shakes today. I emailed Nina first and she said it would be OK. I was getting shakey from no protein to speak of for seven days. I'll still wait until Friday to go the rest of the full liquids.

What is with this lactose intolerance?
Even if it was milk or cream, I'm sure it was loaded with sugar. From all the board I've read sugar seems to set off a lot of people and set them off quickly.
-
All liquids
It is totally amazing that ten WL doctors have ten different post-op diet plans. I wonder why that is??????
-
What is with this lactose intolerance?
Doesn't the frozen yogurt have a ton of sugar in it? You probably were reacting to the sugar.
-
All liquids
Johns Hopkins University Vertical Sleeve Diet plan doesn't have you on clears except in the hospital. You come home on a modified full liquids. Here is the link. It sure makes a lot of sense. It is so hard to get your Protein in with clears. http://www.hopkinsbayview.org/bariatrics/docs/nutrition_sleeve.pdf

Medications
I think the doctor's concern is getting them down your new pipes. So talk to your PCP and find out for sure if you meds can be crushed or if there is a liquid you can take in the beginning.
