1. 3 and 5 year studies show that RNY and Lap-Band have virtually the same success rates. around 55 to 60 % and again those are just averages. RNY looses more and faster, but tend to regain about 10% after the first year and a half to 2 years.
2. Your definately right I think how your BP will react to weight loss will depend on whats causing the high BP. Some people have High BP caused things other than weight and weight loss would not help them. I am assuming mine was due to weight since mine did respond to weight loss.
3. You have found the right place. Hunger and eating are still issues, the band is a tool, not a magic potion. I have reach goal and still struggle to make good choices and stop when I am full. It does get much easier with the band, but its still there Awesome start, congrats Thats interesting, I have always heard that it didn't and heard bandsters who fly say it didn't, Maybe their setting were set too sensative or something. When I was younger, my peircings set it off, hard to explain nipple rings to security!
4. Congrats. Glad to see someone so far out still doing well!
5. my blood pressure was high pre-op. In fact the Dr wnated me to come back after my annual physical to put me on medication. Since the weight has come off, I am on the low side of normal. The other day at the dentist, it was 112/62 and that was when I was very nervous about being there. It has helped me tremendously. The same story for my blood sugar
6. Just my 2 cents. I think it would be discrimination if E-harmony refused to let portions of the society join at all. That would be wrong. But I also think its wrong to tell a company what kind of service or product they "have" to offer
7. I chose other because I followed a low fat and low carb, with high protein diet post op. I am a little more leanient since I've reached goal, but stay true to it most of the time.
8. Hi Brandi, you are right about the sizes. I would check and verify with your doctor about your fill amounts. They can be overfilled to a small degree, but I would doubt at 3 months post op, you would be nearly at that point.
9. My experience is a little different. I lost all my weight with out good restriction, I hit goal weight in February and had a 0.25 fill to help maintain. I maintained ok for a couple of months, but gained a few pounds the last couple of months. I went last Friday and explained and he gave ma an agressive fill of 1.0 giving me a total of 8.25, if my calculations are correct.I can honestly say that for the first time, I have good restriction. I think part of my problem was that I held myself to a very strict diet and was loosing so well, my Dr was very conservative on my previous fills, afraid of overfilling.
10. Chickie said what I was going to say. I thinks its just because people we know haven't seen us not fat. I get that a lot. My mom says I am getting too thin. I told her I am in a 34 inch waist and point out others who have the same waist size and asked her if they are too thin, she said no, So I asked her why I am too thin then, She didn't have an answer.
11. My parents gave me a gilft cards to buy a couple of new suits as a congrats for my weight loss. Here is a pic of me in one of them:
12. How precious. They are so cute
13. Hi everyone. I thought I would start the new months thread:) http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f15/may-06-bandsters-june-chat-36082/#post485938
14. Hi Maysters! Sorry I have been so MIA lately. Glad to see everyone is doing well with surgeries, grandbabies, etc. So we are all over ayear out now. Seems amazing. Hope this coming year is half as ggod as the last. Maintenance has been a struggle for me so far. Loosing was easier. Sounds crazy, huh? I guess I am an all or nothing kind of guy. I have crept just outside of the maintenance range I set for myself, so I am back at it to get back down to where I feel comfortable. Thanks to Alicia for encouraging me to excercise, I went to the gym for the first time in well over a month this morning. It felt real good. I go for a fill on Friday. We catered in lunch last thurday at work, I was able to scarf down a hamburger patty and a hot dog (without the bread) in about 10 minutes, talk about no restriction:( I will try to keep ya'll updated more often. :welldoneclap:
15. If there was a charge, I don't remember it, It must have been covered by my co-pay. He does both the band and RNY and he gave the pro's and con's to both. very informative.
16. Same here. My PCP did not even know I was having it done, not that I was keeping it from him, just that Dr Cribben's and my insurance did not require his referal. Hope that helps.
17.

That sounds about right from what I recall. He doesn't do the pre-op liquids, but makes up for it with a long post op liquid diet. You can make your Protein shakes thicker by blending bananas and/or Peanut Butter with the chocolate Protein Shakes.
18. I was fortunate enough not to have to do a pre-op diet. I had several "last" meals. So I understand where your coming from. But, like CyndiLou says, The liver is very close while doing surgery and some Dr's feel more comfortable havinf shrunk the liver. You can see the surgery performed from the link on my website. During the procedure, they show where the liver is while the banding is being done. Best of luck.
19. Glad everything went to well. It amazes me how different Hamm and Cribbins are. Hamm is a no nonsense guy and tells you like it is (in a good way) and Cribbins is the super nice, bedside manner kind of guy. They are both good, but very different. I used Dr Cribbins, But Hamm has done one of my fills and have freinds that used hom too.
20. Its very possible, but like Gayle, said. It will depend on how quickly you get get in for any other tests that may be required and how quick the insurance company is re approve. Like I said in a previous post, the stars aligned for me and I had my surgery 5 weeks to the day after my innitial consult. Hope it work that well for you.
21. Mine looks totally different than I do now. Not only have I lost weight, but I have grown my hair out for the first time in a dozen years. I get a lot of double takes a nd question about it. My pic is also on the from of my Visa debit card and I get the same reaction to that.
22. wait until your comfortable. I would think a week or so and you'll be fine as long as you don't plan to swing from the chandeliers!
23. Wow Joe, Thats very humbling. Now others are looking at you the same way. Keep doing what your doing!
24. Thats great Joe. What a great milestone!
