  1. I was thinking the same thing... or would the heat alter it? Maybe we need to email a manufacturer to find out.
  2. Wow. I am interested to see what my dr will say. I will let you know how that goes. Funny that I have seen so many of your posts and keep wanted to comment on your picture and how much I LOVE it... I am glad to know that you are here as well as the other "sistas" so cool thank you!
  3. I sent out the packet to you hope it helps The way I understood was they want you to lose a couple of pounds and stick with it so to show staying power commitment etc. I don't get the feeling that the professionals on our side want us to lose a lot of weight and get the BMIs down .. LOL then they lose business because our insurance may deny the procedure... I told my nutritionalist so what happens if I lose too much will they deny me? she told me "we wont let you " I just had to laugh.
  4. My husband would be happy if I switched to a sex addiction as long as it involves him LOL
  5. I have only been told about the nutritional counseling and I have been talking with her via email and phone, I haven't had to go see her in person. She said they like to see a few pounds lost ( but not to much or you could be denied) She says I am at 42 BMI on the paper work so I have "wiggle room". Basically she sent me an email packet of stuff and we have had discussions. I can email you the packet if you like!
  6. asalaama alaikum sisters I am an American Muslim married to an Algerian 15 yrs. As you can see I have not been banded yet.... Ramadan is just around the corner and I was wondering if any of you have gone through it yet being banded! thanks Salaam Lor
  7. Willowcat - You hit the nail on the head. If I lose the weight, I will no longer have that easy out of "it's not me, it's their bias against the weight. If I wasn't fat, they wouldn't reject me/treat me that way/ whatever." I am definitely going back to therapy! I was in therapy before, but after a point, just kept running into the obstacle of my weight and felt I needed to start dealing with that before I could really progress. I would recommend therapy for anyone who is interested in it - it does work if you are really committed to overcoming and changing! yes I use it as a barrier, a cusion, etc Yup this is me, My Dr Phil and what is your pay off......... I start counseling MONDAY! AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH I have had a rough day... confronting my eating disorder niece who has been living with me for 6 months. After finding a raw potato that fell out of her back back......... We had a good talk......... we both cried together........ good bonding moment. I love her so much. She is 19 and I am afraid for her.
  8. I have Aetna Choice POS II and I am on a 3 month hold, I talk to the nutritionalist 3 times and that is about it.. 90/10 coverage. I am about half way through right now... I think it is good to have that hold ... gives time to really think and research what products you want to use, think of all your questions, reformat the pantry LOL. Figure out with your husband or significant other what meals will look like later and how he can support you. I have my daughter who is 11 reading labels for serving sizes etc! I decided to go for counseling on my own aside from the psych eval they did for the insurance. I have my first appt on Monday.
  9. I enjoyed your post, keep writing!
  10. Brian... sounds yummy. I was thinking about adding the Isopure protien powder, maybe the chocolate or the clear one. where do you buy yougurt butter I don't think I ever heard of it before?
  11. you and I must be related. I do the exact same thing. I kinda know where this comes from, I just don't know what to do with it. So in response to knowing my behaviors and weightloss I am going to see a counselor on Monday. I know that BEFORE I get banded I need to work on these issues. I want to have the most success I can so I decided it is time... I am almost 42 and I have learned a lot about myself in the last couple of years. Maybe you should try a counselor and I personally am going to look up that book "dance of intimacy". Thank you for posting your feelings you made me think about myself
  12. cool we can compare notes as to how "doped up we are" Just remember not to use your fist as the tamper in that Kick A$$ blender OKAY! ;o) I don't have my surgery date yet... I am on a 3 month hold. I am guessing end of July begining of Aug. Maybe I will have a date when I go in for the pre-op I need to talk to the nutritionalist 2 more times (on the phone). I got an packet from her via email and have asked her questions and she has answered. She has been quick to respond... so for that I am thankful. Hey ya'll I think the magic bullet is great for things like salsa, baby food, small occasional jobs... Ice however... or frozen fruit mmmmmm NOPE. At least not in the quantities I prepare. I made 4 kids smoothies this afternoon... so I did about a 40 ounce thick drink FAST. I wouldn't trade the vita- mix for the world.
  13. I have to admit I read this and I busted out laughing.... Please save your money. I used to own a coffee shop. The Vita-mix is a kick A$$ blender. Most likely will last you your life time.... I have one at home and make smoothies all the time for the kids. (I had 3 of them and sold them for $275 each when we closed down) My husband thought he was smart and bought that magic bullet (he works for Costco) Thinkin it was cute and to save space blah blah blah LOL ... I burned that sucker out after 6 drinks. ( we like our smoothies thick with ice!) needless to say I sent that thing back! If you need replacement parts the company I dealt with and still do is EverGreen Trade ( in CA) 1 800 422 7980. They have great customer service and prices are great as well. Most likely you have a $400 model. Don't give it up for the world! You have a winner!
  14. I lost the 75% of my income just last week, I hear you! I am self employed so I cannot collect a dime ! So frustrating! I know in CA that if something like that happens where you get a reduction of hours you can collect some unemployment benefits to help off set the difference. check with your state unemployment office and see if they can help you. I hope they can... hang in there. {{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}
  15. you are right about the smoking... I don't smoke or drink etc but people that I have known in the past have made comments how I just need to quit eating so much or this or that food... I don't see one of them quiting their addiction... not even with the ease of them getting RX to help them. They are not willing to change their lifestyle. I heard one say "Oh I can't quit then I will get fat" Touche! They don't realize this isn't a magic pill and to lose you have to commit to a lifestyle change that is HARD. ESPECIALLY , if the world around you is pigging out on your favorite foods! I have told the people closest too me and my own dr. My family is very supportive and the couple of friends that I have that are over weight... only one is negative, I think because she doesn't have insurance or is worried that I won't want to be her friend later , Idon't know yet what her mind is telling her. The others want to see how I do and they may do it too...LOL. (that would be cool to have the "buddies" close at hand! We could go to lunch and share a plate LOL. Affordable dining out! I have called a counselor and have an appt on June 1st through my husbands EAP and I have my pre-op on the 12th. I can't wait to get on the other side of surgery. Actually I can't wait for the pre-op diet have to! To get the weightloss jumpstarted... I typically loose really well on "liquid-diets" Now I can have help not to gain it back!!!!!!! Whooooo- HOOOOOOO!
  16. I made the step and called my husbands EAP program they gave me a small list of providers (5) and I looked as many up as I could, phone book and internet and called 2. One called me back and I booked a June 1st appt with her. One of her focuses is eating disorders... as well as the other issues in life I have. I hope it is a good match. We did build some repore on the phone and I think it will work out.... ONWARD AND UPWARD! here we go!
  17. Congratulations Beth, I am happy for you!!! I am still chuckling about the nurse and ordering the cheesecake... that would be me, I am the comedian!
  18. thanks for your responses thus far!!!! KelinTx... good Idea to hold on to one article for a comparison.. thanks! I was thinking some more today, I should definately seek counseling before during and after. I am an emotional eater and use my weight as a buffer! It would be so much easier If my husband will get on the food wagon... and give up so much bread and cheese so it is not in the house LOL or that D#$@ chocolate and ice cream!!!!! ;o)
  19. I have not been banded yet hoping for this summer! Once your clothes are too big do you just get rid of them swearing them out of your life.... I have tended to hoard them over the years ...then grow back into them. I was thinking this time I can move them on out and say good bye! The other is there any cookbooks that any of you are partial to that have more Protein choices in them that are "do-able". I love to cook. I am also hoping that once I start losing weight my husband will be so inspire to do it also. He is not THAT over weight... well to look at ;o) but his BMI is high enough that with his sleep apnea he would get approved for the lapband no problem. How do ya'll deal with the "overweight spouse"??? thanks
  20. I can't speak to you and your husbands relationship etc. I asked mine if we were in that same situation, and we are close to it.... He said that I should go through with the surgery... Money issues are temporary usually, saving for a surgery has more long term good effects... One is your self esteem. another your health, those are hard to put a price tag on. With those things in check it is easier to go out and get what you want. then he chuckles , wise a$$ and says we would save money on food! We have 2 kids in Elementary School so that would complicate things also. Like I said we all are different in our views and priorities, so you are going to have to sit down and make a list of Pros and Cons with each other. Good luck in whatever you choose. Lor
  21. That is how I feel Miranda.... I totally understand how you feel! It is for the greater good!
  22. The way the dr explained it to me is that by creating the pouch above the band, the top of that pouch is where the nerve endings are that send the signal to the brain that you are full... hence the body is satisfied, and brain so it does not go into sarvation mode and shut down your metabolism. hope this helps Lor
  23. I used 4, 8 ounce fishing weights in my bra(be sure and wrap them in something you don't want the lead against your skin) and pockets and drank water... and slouched a smidge because My BMI was on the edge and I didn't want to take a chance! good luck and don't sweat.
  24. I like the sugar free breath mint after a meal idea. thanks
