1. I had surgery last wednesday and on the way home from the hospital I was talking to my clients( i am in sales). 48 hOurs later I spoke at a breakfast for 50 people on Identity Theft. That's what I do..... I went home and slept the rest of the day............. you will do fine in a few days. no heavy lifting. good luck.
2. Phyllis, If only lost 40 pounds in 1 1/2 years, I would have negative feelings about the band too. I say go on girl and get that thing out. don't wait another day.
3. will stretch your pouch......... stay away from BOTH.
4. liquids for a couple of days. tell your doctor.
5. You doctor would NEVER do it if he was not confident that he was not qualified. They are SCARED of being sued..... Do NOT worry about this. However, you could always make an agreement with him that he will repair andything that goes wrong for FREE since you are willing to be the first...... The ball is in your court....... Go for it. It does not take a brain surgeon to do this........ He is more than qualified i am sure..... I am a RN. I know the way doctors think..........BTW.... Make him do it at what your insurance is willing to pay with no out of pocket from you...... good luck........ don't worry.
6. These are great stories....... Congrats to all........... banded June 21, 2006
7. Not everyone has a catheter... IT is to catch your urine and keep your bladder deflated. I asked not to have one. You will be naked. Howver there are surgical drapes over every part except the area between your breasts and your pubic line..... You won't be exposed for all to see. I worked in Surgery before as a nurse.............. Don't worry about it. All of the nurses and doctors don't even think about your body..... they are doing their jobs..... not to say that occasionally they don't make comments...... Banded June 21, 2006
8. I have 50 mg demerols and 25 mg phenergan suppositories. I only used the suppositories to sleep well. I did not need pain med. IT was the least painful surgery I have ever had. I WAS SHOCKED...... I do think that I have a high pain tolerance. However, I have raved about how painless this surgery was. When you wake up from anesthesia ask for it repeatly. They can give you a BIG dose. By the time you go home you will be okay..... Good luck...... don't worry..... Banded June 21st, 2006
9. What is the difference in what you are describeing and a PB? are they the same??? IT seems like to me, you have the pain becasue you have overeaten....atleast everything I read says that. band June 21, 2006
10. Any top notch sports shoe store will be able to fit you properly. Don't be afraid to spend well over $100. IT is worth it. These usually won't be chains... like champs. footlocker, etc.... banded June 21, 2006
11. Dr. C, I just wanted to say thanks. I am a non practicing Registered Nurse and I think that it is great that you are helping here. I was banded 4 days ago and I feel great. I pray that it stays that way. No doubt that your patients love you!
12. Tricia, great southern home. I miss my home in Ga. Nothing like that down here in St. Pete that's for sure. Good job.... That home here would be atleast 750,000.......... go girl. Banded June 21, 2006
13. Every weight loss/ exercise book will tell you that for weight loss with walking it is duration and frequency... not intensity... ie.... walking 1 hour 6 days a week at a average pace is better that running for 20 minutes 3 times a week. I used to walk 5 miles a day for 5 years and kept my weight off. I got feet problems and that was the end of that. I will start walking again but this time I will a weight training. building muscle DOES BURN FAT.
14. Carbonation STRETCHES the pouch.... My surgeon said, " how many fat women do you know that love diet coke?" I said ALL OF THEM. He said that is because carbonation stretches the stomach and SODA drinkers can eat twice as much as other people. I thought WOW! He said that you can NEVER HAVE IT AGAIN. Your pouch will stretch and the band will be useless. I have taken my whole family of cokes for over 1 month now. No soda in this house EVER. I don't want my kids to have huge stomachs to fill. I thought is was easy to give coke(diet) up. Come to think of it...... I was not heavy until I started drinking loads of diet coke in my mid 20's. I grew up on unsweetend tea. Hope this makes sense. url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]
15. I think that rewarding yourself for the progress you have already made it a GREAT idea. YOu are going through the same thing that we do through before the band, right. Lose 40 pounds and not cheat once on weight watchers. work out everyday and then..... from no where comes the loss of motivation. and over the next 6 months the weight comes back. Here's my advice..... thank God for the band and band police...... Make a pact with yourself that you will put protien in your body first then treats. Only cheat on days your exercise....... that sounds like pre band days advice too. I think it must be in the head. I was banded on wednesday and I have not been hungry yet..... But head hunger.......oh how i just want burgers and steaks and good food. I am working on my food addiction. I will overcome it........ people beat addictions everyday. I am using the band as a tool to help me beat this food addiction. It has controlled me for 15 years.... I think that being banded is a great tool but I also think that demons that got us to need the band in the first place do not disappear..... We must work out our demons........ url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]
16. I think it is mostly a scare tactic so that you won't be buffeting yourself to death. a had a HUGE LIVER FROM ALL THE carbs. 50% of doctors don't require any type of pre op diet. Here is the deal. A high protien diet with low carbs shrink your liver..... Eat HIGH Protien and leave carbs out.... no pastas, Cookies, etc.... You will do fine. I was banded on Wednesday and did not follow the diet but about 7 days out of 14. Only about 5 of the days did I follow it to the letter. I shrunk my liver by living on steak and bacon. Go girl.... I even had a few bits of chocolate. If they don't scare you to death about it you would be a bad girl. It does bother you that you know your buffet days are over and you can't help but to want to eat more. I am mourning the loss of my best friend. FOOD! I think that being a normal sized person will be worth it. Good luck.... Btw, I really thought the surgery was a piece of cake. I never took a pain med after. NOt even tylenol. lisa, RN url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]
17. They do have special tape. I am a nurse. ask for it.
18. sounds like plenty of good advice already.....
19. I don't have a clue where my port is. I only feel gas pain. If you have gas pain, don't continue pain med. It causes more. Walking and maalox will help release the gas... pain meds do not help with gas pain. Could my port be on top of belly button area?? I thought it would be on the side? any clues??
20. I was just banded yesterday. Ouch it is too soon to look at that. One year from now, I will look back and laugh.... not today.
21. thanks. It was so much better than i thought it would be. I was worried because I did not really follow my pre op diet but appartently the doc did not care. (which I knew, which is why I has such a hard tme sticking to it)LOL . Thanks for all of the support. It is very exctiing.
22. Myra, thanks for thinking of me. I think that it was GREAT. So much better that I thought. The gas pain is bad but otherwise it is a peice of cake. I don't know what I was so afraid of....... thanks again. Just taking it easy for a few days trying to move the gas along.
23. I am banded too. Everything went great..............
24. From what I have read, some people get restriction without a fill. lucky people. others have to make multiple trips to get it right. I am having the band tomorrow. My doctor promises me that I will lose loads of weight without a fill. He says the band alone, if I eat the rights things in the right order will give me restriction. Who knows. I think that you are normal.
25. I just can't believe how mean people are. Too bad that we can't see his penis maybe we could say, "OMG did you stop growing at birth?" that thing is pathetic....... wouldn't that be funny? We all have to remember that if someone is picking on you they are just giving some one else a break. It does hurt to the core though. This is a great thread. Very touching. so much pain caused by fat...... will be banded on tomorrow url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]
