Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
Lizrbit and maryumC Howdy! The biking thing is fantastic. I'm peddling past corn fields mostly. They have their beauty but it's not GA or ME, for sure! OH is for Ohio, not like Oh, I'm so surprised or for Obesity Help...I had no idea I grabbed their tag. Anyway, I'm off for a big ride tonight only to learn that it might be slim pickings with the other riders because my town is having thier big fireworks display tonight. I don't know the roads they ride, so I'll be sticking to the trail if no one shows. Regardless I'll be out on my bike

My first group support meeting
I can't imagine living life as a bypass person. The fear of dying. The complications. I want to lose weight to enjoy this life as a healthy person. Bypass doesn't equal healthy to me. HTH

Help Me, I'm turning into a Snackasaurus!!
I'm with you on wanting to snack. It's just bad, bad, bad.... It's a behavior control thing, IMO. Maybe you (we) need to eat more satisfying foods at meal time. I'm curious to see what the board has to say.

Marchies in July
purple monkey- I'm also fill less at this point in the game. I see surgeon on Monday and I'm thinking about getting my first one. I just got off an 11 day plateau, which is so disheartening. My calories are increasing too, jmcambra. I really try to keep it under 1300, but I've been averaging 1500+ lately which makes me think it time for a fill. I struggle to only eat that, I want more food! But I'm on the fence too. My doc and I have a 10 pounds a month agreement. If I don't see a loss of 10 pounds in month I get a fill...but I'm seeing the 10...but it's hard not to eat more. I feel like I've got two people arguing in my head about this! Let us know what you decide. We will share too when all of my voices come together and decide. I see some folks on here who are happy as bees eating 800 calories or fewer. Talk about jealous! Thanks Tia, you know I worry. A girl has got to eat!

I'm thinking I'm going to be inside working out at a gym. I'm planning on hiring a trainer though, to keep me motivated. Juli

First of all 5 miles is fantastic. I started off barley able to do 3. You've got to start somewhere. You should be proud of yourself! I decided to buy a road bike because I knew I was never ever going to ride anywhere that wasn't paved. So that helped eliminate moutain bikes and hybrids. I also was riding a bike that didn't fit me well, it made my back and shoulders hurt to ride more than a few miles. So I knew I had to look at my size in relationship to the bike. I'm short and needed to buy a small bike. I'm so used to buying everything BIG, it was interesting. Also, I was afraid to go too hog wild so I knew I wanted an "entry level" bike. Road bikes start at $600 and can go into the thousands. With that in mind I got on bikes. Giant, Trek, Schwinn, Specialized...and bought the one that fit me the best. I had no problem going to the skinny biker dudes saying, I want a bike and this is how I plan on riding. Really, they are typically so stoked about the sport they encourage everyone to ride, and there you are a willing listener! Take your time to get the bike you want. Get your butt on a few and ride them around. Spend some time on line to see what might best suit you, what kind of riding you see yourself doing in 6-9 months, not next week...because you can out grow a bike pretty quickly. There's a ton of information on line, just dig a little. Let us know which way you are leaning and we'll support you! I knwo JC is a recumbant biker, I believe he has other bikes too. Areelady has a hybrid that she's in love with And I'm a road biker. There are commuter bikes, fitness bikes, hybrid bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, recumbant bikes...I feel like Bubba from Forrest Gump..you've got shrimp gumbo, shrimp cocktail, shrimp kabobs, shrimp ala king...

Eddie, Thanks for the holler back. Protesters are too much. Here in Columbus, the dykes on bikes (hubba hubba) put themselves between the protesters and the parade and rev their engines to drown them out. PRIDE not in June? Seems down right ignorant...but whatev... XO

Marchies in July
Hey Momlambert- You do have a big month ahead of you. Keep us updated as much as poosible. I'll be thinking about you! Tia- You've got to love the clothes are too big feeling! I'm sure you look fantastic. Make sure you're taking a multi Vitamin, considering you aren't eating much. Carol- If you find a way to keep it fresh let us know. I don't think Cosmo has an article on how to keep WSL new and exciting like it does for sex with your man. If they did, I'd subscribe! TammyJ- Hire that personal trainer! You'll be so glad you did! You'll be feeling downright athletic! Josie- She did love the baby sitter and I loved the bike ride! And yeah you for getting out and weeding the garden. I'd rather eat glass than work in the yard, you have my sympathies. Happy July everyone!

Snack, Stagnet and other Issues
You don't NEED to eat fruit. Veggies you need. If you are blending veggies in a smoothie you are more hard core than me! Remember, chewy Protein first, then veggies, then carbs. For real, fruit is more carb than anything..its a wonderful, fantastic carb, and better than white flour anything, but don't drink your friut just because you feel the need to get some in everyday.

Go for the pedicure, because socks with sandals is a horrible look. You don't want to look uncool, do ya? On that note, stay away from polish when you get the pedicure beacuse that's worse than uncool. As for the pedicure nothing says I am well put together more than a guy who takes care of his feet. Trust me. The ladies will dig you, or your wife will go oh, la, la.

Hey there SHE and WAS. I want to be the voice of the middle ground.... 600 calories would have me falling over, passing out! My best days are about 1100, but my average is around 1400. SHE, look at my stats. I'm losing...but like WAS I track every bite of food on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal. It helped me before the band reduce my calories from 3500 to 2400 to 1700 to now around 1400...You really can assess what you put into your mouth. Like granola in yogurt, a personal favorite of mine. But I ruduced the granola by half, saved 100 calories and still got the crunch I wanted. I would have never thought about that without seeing the stats on the screen in front of my face. I am a lunch meat eater. The lean stuff only. You can get some lean chili, (turkey chili) in cans too, if you look. But be weary of squishy, liquidy food. See the note below about liquid calories. I am a three meals and two snack eater. My take on Protein drinks is you should NEVER drink a calorie, unless you've just been filled and you have to be on liquids. You should be chewing your fruit that goes in the smoothies. Part of how the band works is having mass in the stomach, not liquid. And for exercise, take it slow, but be consistant and try to add to it weekly. WAS, I feel you about writing "directly". I hope I wasn't offensive.- Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters
http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/jacksonville-florida-37281/ Eddie, you think you can help this person out? I saw this and thought you might miss it. I know you're in Jacksonville.- Frustrated and Confused!!!
Double Amen. What nerve! Muscial you're sassy! Ya gotta love sassy!- Marchies in July
Happy Monday everyone.:tired Really, I'm checking in with those who tried to dig a little deeper this weekend to shake the plateaus. How ya'll doing? I did move off of the 247 mark by one pound. :whoo:I'm happy because I sat there for 11 days. ELEVEN DAYS! That's insane considering how much I exercise. But it seems to be how I'm losing this weight. It's my third 10 day or longer plateau. You'd think I should give up the scale...not gonna happen. :rolleyes Someone has a little problem not weighing herself. I'm making up for YEARS of not stepping on the scale, ever. So Janine, Denise, others? How was your weekend? Are you feeling more successful? Do tell.- Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
I did a 21 mile ride yesterday. My overall average rate of speed was 13.2 mph. Which is slowly increasing. I was on a curvy bike path with lots of people, but I made good time and had fun. I'm going out again tonight, solo and tomorrow with a group. Woo Hoo.- Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
Dude, Great motivation, I'd say! Ha! Love the images too, but I think you need to rename the album, Green Swamp My Feet. Cute toes.- Exercise frequency
All this talk about running....I WANT to run. When I walk I feel like there is a hand on my back pushing me to run. But alas, my body hurt when I started to do a minute run, a minute walk...I was doing a 10 week 0-20 minutes of running program. So, I'll wait until spring. I should see one-derland before Christmas, maybe even Thanksgiving. I figure it should be a better time to try again. My goal is to keep on the bike until it gets too cold, then I'm going to hire a trainer to work with me, then in the spring I'll start running and biking again. Look out skinny, here I come!- Marchies in June
We've done it again. We've made it through one more month, still losing and still motivating each other. There's a new board for July, follow the link: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f90/marchies-july-37381/ Awesome ya'll.- Marchies in July
Josie That's a great idea to get the scale out of the house. It can cause us to focus on the numbers and not on the nutrition. I'm trying to focus this weekend too. I want to see some change on the scale. I'm not ready to move it out of the house tough. (I have a little scale addiction, shhhh don't tell.) I'm a FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal user. It takes a little getting used to but I do like it for tracking my calories. You might want to check it out. I want to chat a minute about NSVs. Yesterday I took my daughter to see Ratatouille, and I plopped down between the arm rests and fit. It took me a minute to realize I didn't raise them before sitting. I was like, "wow, that's cool". Last week I rode on an airplane for the first time since November. I didn't need an extention. Truth be told there were two inches to spare too on the belt! And this one is killer. I'm a single mom with shared custody, I have my 5 y/o daughter every other weekend, some weeknights too. I either take her to the pool or walk around the zoo for my exercise on our weekends. But for the first time EVER I've asked the neighbor girl to babysit for a few hours so I can get in a two hour bike ride. It's worth $10 to me, and Zoe just loves the girl. Isn't that crazy!? I'm actually a little proud of myself. Cheers. Juli- Marchies in July
Welcome to the July thread! I hope everyone is having a good weekend, maybe an extended weekend due to the Holiday. Let's keep losing, this is our 4th mouth out since banding!- Exercise frequency
Deanna, I'm going to run in the spring when...we can virtually coach each other. If I can do it you can too... I know you have a competitive spirit. I'll egg you on.- New bicycle thread!!
Well, the big inspiration is that my girlfriend and I are going on vacation in August and they have a 25 mile one way, rails to trails path on cape cod. We want to ride it. The down side is we will be renting bikes. She too is biking in bigger chunks like you and me to get ready. When the serious biker folks told me I'd be up to 50 miles in no time, I thought Woo Hoo. Vacation is August 4th, which is a bit sooner than the end of the summer...so we shall see. I do have the neighbor girl coming over to babysit so I can go for a 2-3 hour ride today. I've NEVER hired a sitter so I could exercise. That's a crazy new first! - Snack, Stagnet and other Issues
