  1. I have two kids. A daughter who is going to be 11 and a son who is going to be 4. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 12 years this September. My daughter is exceptionally smart (not just saying this because I'm her mother) She was recently put in the "gifted and talented" program at school and is in college level reading comprehension, spelling, science, and vocabulary classes. My son is opposite in the fact that he is not as easy to handle as my daughter. He was born deaf (he has had a little hearing out of one ear since a surgery he had about a year and a half ago. He doesn't really talk much due to his hearing loss but he is saying the sentence "What the hell?" quite a bit lately. Clear as a bell too. We are just so happy that he is talking. Although we would rather that not be the what he chooses to say. He is very amusing though. We are in the process of really trying to clean up our mouths. It was really great talking to you too. And thanks for the kind words. They are few and far between on this thread. Breath of fresh air. Have a good nights sleep, I must finish a paper I am writing for my Political Science class.
  2. I only remember getting spanked by my mom one time. I remember it was really hard not to laugh as it was very weak and didn't hurt. I would have rather been spanked by my mom than be grounded from hanging out with my friends any day.
  3. I am 5 foot 2. It's so funny that you say that about your dad. YOu definatley don't want to say your dad could possibly be my dad. My father was very abusive to us and our mother and he is the reason we live in the United States because we escaped here to get away from him. He has also had (don't quote me on this number) around 9 other kids by another 5 women I have heard. My brother and I are the oldest. Last I knew of him we were testifying against him in court right before my brother got cancer and he was sent to prison shortly there after at Ft. Leavenworth Prison. I'm sure he is out by now but I don't know. I always wonder what happened to him.
  4. I do know one thing. If I ever would have said the "n" word or or spic, or anything like that in in front of my mother, I would have probably been picking myself up off the floor. She was a bit too strict in my opinion, We were not even allowed to say the word "crap". She did not tolerate disrespect in any way. If someone asked us a question, no matter who it was, we had to answer in a respectful way. For instance If someone asked me or my brother if we had a good day in school and we said "yeah" we got in trouble. We had to answer "yes" or "no" or "yes maam" or "yes sir". "yeah" or "nah" were not acceptable words. I always thought that was too strict but as a mother now, I do think it sounds awful when my daughter says "yeah".
  5. I don't remember my mom calling us this outside of our little family circle. She may have and I don't remember, I don't remember anyone being offended if she did. To be honeset with you I don't remember anything but love when it came to my mother. Well, love and sacrifice. I don't think there is anything wrong with you shuddering when you hear that. You cannot help the way you feel. I'm sure a lot of people would feel the same way you do.
  6. cool, how tall are you if you don't mind me asking.
  7. There was a guy on my crew (who was actually killed a few months ago in a mining accident involving only a six foot fall) who was always calling me myrish. He would say it so fast that I never knew what he was calling me and I didn't get it (plus it is super loud in the mine, hard to hear people.) It wasn't till last week that somebody told me he was calling me that as a cross between the words mexican irish. Doy , I didn't get it. No point in me saying that story except when I found out what he was calling me it did make me chuckle a bit. I'm starting to wonder if I'm SUPPOSED to get mad at that kind of thing. I find myself asking the question, Am I wrong to not be mad at that?
  8. It is very un-nerving to me that someone who's got such a beautiful face seems very mean and intolerant. (notice I said the word "seems". I don't think you can completely judge someone's character based on what a message board says.)
  9. I'm not trying to convince anybody to agree with me. I think out of everyone on this thread, I'm the main one fighting for all of us to have the freedom to not only have our own opinions but be able to state them. Look, even though I am not verbally attacking you, you continue to do it to me with the band being around my brain comment. You have also insinuated quite a few times in this thread that I'm an immature child and have mental issues. Yet I'm not saying mean things to you. I'm not resorting to the childish behavior of calling you names nor will I ever. It really seems like you are making snap judgements towards people. Wow, that sounds familiar, who else seems to be making snap judgments about people....hmmmmmmmmm, oh that's right. Imus.
  10. I had no intentions of "throwing my mom into this mess". How my mom got into this was I referred to myself as a mexi-mutt and when asked why I would do such a thing, I answered honestly by saying that my mom used to call my brother and I that when we were growing up. Also, it was in a very non-mean way. Then my mother was accused of being not only a bad mother but was also compared to a rapist. Although that did bother me, it is the right of anyone to say that about my mother. I absolutely thought it was harsh and over the top but it is the right of everyone here to say what they want. It is also your right to attack me and my mental status. I do think you and some other people on this board are being quite mean to those who do not share your opinions. I find it funny that I'm accused of being awful by calling someone a half breed (which i have admitted numerous times was wrong) yet there is nothing wrong with comparing my mother to a rapist.
  11. Oh my gosh. I just figured out how to meet your criteria of being allowed to be sarcastic. RULES: 1. You must agree with any and all of Sheila's opinions. *Note* If you choose not to follow this rule, then it is not acceptable to make sarcastic comments and you also have serious mental issues.
  12. I see. people who don't agree with you have mental issues. wow, I bet there are quite a few crazy people on this board by your standards.
  13. You are glad he was there? You are not embarassed by his actions as one of your leaders? Thanks, that answers every question I had about you. Now Get???? hahahaha. I'm sorry am I bothering you? Now that you told me to get I sure learned my lesson. sheesh, guess I can't talk anymore since I don't have your permission. You are aware that no matter how much it bothers you, this is a free country right? That means I can stay as long as I want. Get comfortable, I'm not going anywhere.
  14. Exactly what I asked you. Your opinion in Al Sharpton's involvment in that case.
  15. I know I said I wouldn't comment on things you said anymore but I have to say, I never thought in my entire life I would hear my mother being compared to a rapist.
  16. Sheila- no comments on Al Sharpton's involvement in the Tawana Brawley case?
  17. I cannot beleive you are putting Al Sharpton in the same category as a great man Like Dr. King. I'm curious, and you probably won't answer this like you didn't anwer the sarcasm criteria post, but what are your opinions on Al Sharpton's involvement in the Tawana Brawley case? Also when I said I respected your differing opinion even though you did not respect mine and you wrote that you respected that I conceded. Is that because we have different opinions? Not being rude, it is your right to think your opinions are the only ones that matter and are correct.
  18. Also for the record Sheila. I respect your differing opinion too. I wish you could respect mine.
  19. I hate to say it. I'm going to have to concede to you. As much as I love debating with people it is impossible to do with you because you are not honest in your accusations. Also, common sense does not apply to everything. But again, you win. I will go down the line and possibly reply to anything ihaven't read yet but after that I am done commenting with you. I respect your differing opinion even though you don't respect mine. I do not respect your dishonesty in your accusations though. For the record. My mother was a great person who raised her twins to the best of her abilities by herself with no family (she was raised in foster homes because her parents were killed when she was a very small child). She worked hard to put clothes on our back and food on our table and never complained. Even when my brother and I were 14 and my brother was diagnosed with non-hotchkins lymphoma and had to travel back and forth to a town 4 hours away every two weeks for 9 months to have chemotheraphy treatments and then during that same time I was in a horrible four wheeler accident where both my arms and one leg was broken and I was in a different hospital for weeks on end which put her in financial ruin which she never caught up on even though she always made her payments. she loved to tease and would have never hurt a fly. She was however a little obsessed with 70's music and board games. The last thing my mother ever did was hurt our feelings especially on purpose. I know I will never come close to being the great person she was. Even though unlike her, I will probably live past the age of 47.
  20. What does Isiah Washingtong being black have to do with anything I said. What statements does it throw out the window?
  21. Yet again, you are not completely reading my posts. Go back and look and you will see that I am not arguing he shouldn't be fired. I'm arguing aginst the double standard and for the right for free speech. You are making my points for me. Oh I get it, you are secretly on my side but playing devil's advocate. Dude, you are doing a great job. I was beleiving you for a second.
  22. Okay. so you are saying I cannot think of anything else to say so I am "crying first amendment"? What diminishes why we have the first amendment? when people want to enforce it? Have you been watching the news? Do you think I am the only one talking about the first amendment? the only one talking about civil rights and liberties? You are too funny. Talk about ignorant.
  23. The point of the story was to be honest pertaining to the topic at hand. Why are you so upset by my honesty and opinion? I'm not upset by your opinions. The only thing I'm upset about is that you are accusing me of saying stuff that I didn't. What is it you have against honesty. Yours and mine? Yes I did call him a crybaby. Am I not allowed to have that opinion?
  24. If you read my comment you would have read what he said. Steve harvey is making fun of white southern people and making racially sensitive, derogatory and stereotypical comments about them. Isn't that what Imus is being accuse of when he said nappy headed ho's? Isn't Imus being accused of being racially insensitive, stereotypical, and derogatory? Can you tell me what the difference is between these two people and why one is worse than the other?
  25. okay, you are not being honest here. I absolutely did NOT post only negative things about hip hop. I said in my opinion there were just as much self struggle hip hop as negative hip hop. Show me where I ONLY posted negative things about hip hop. You have yet to show me anything you have accused me of so far.
