Post-surgery psych support?
For one on one therapy it would be best to consult with several who have specialized in eating disorders and/or Bariatric WL patients. Ask your surgeon for references. I have found OA, Over Eaters Anonymous to be a GREAT place for group support. Meet ups are all over the globe and can be easily found locally using the www. Best wishes.

7 days post-op Crampy feeling mid tummy
Early aches and pains-there's healing going on inside. Just be aware but calm. Be sure not to lift anything over 15lbs for a while and be gental even lightly massage your aches and pains...plenty of walking, arm stretching, and do follow the guidlines for food and liquid consumption. If of course pain increases contact your surgeon. Best wishes and take it one day at a time.

What surgery can i tell people i've had instead of telling them about the sleeve?
I've just told the truth, raw and bloody truth! For better or for worse this is what i did and I just hope and pray I will have made the right decision as time moves on. I have not had anyone belittle me in any way. Some have been jealous but I assure them that what I did was very difficult and I might like to undo it at times and try again to battle my weight without having had the surgery. Most feel my sincerity and appreciate it. I also tell them that having lost so much weight has not resolved many self esteem issues I struggle with internally. Yes I shed the fat but I'm still that me inside that over ate myself into a very large and unhealthy person physically. This sort of helps people understand that WL surgery may be a tool but is NOT a magic pill to "happiness".

very disappointed in this site
I too am sorry I missed your original post. Thank God you are OK! I am also very glad that pcindy gave you her professional opinion. Thank you for posting what happened in depth. I hope we will learn from this. Please keep us informed as to when and where you have your VSG, if you decide to.

I WISH I would feel less restriction already!
Hey Mary, Thank you for your post. I do think that there is more to a hiatal hernia and its repair than any doctors I've consulted with including my surgeon, have realized. So I am really hoping that I am able to formulate some intelligible questions to ask the gastroenterologist, Dr. Singh, prior to the upper endo, coming up soon. I want you to know that it is not every single day that I have this discomfort. I am quite restricted BUT, I do have days where the foods go down with only a trace of discomfort, (like, "OK I've had enough)....but not the kind of esophageal pain I encounter other times. I really do think that STRESS, the kind that is more like distress, has alot to do with the times that I suffer with eating. It seems that things tighten up when I'm under emotional stress. I'm not too happy about that. I also notice that if I raise my voice as one might when upset, my throat becomes easily irritated. All in all the tissue in my esophagus and throat must be ultra sensitive. So in order to feel alright I've got to avoid stressful situations and if necessary take a 0.5 dose of Klonopin...that reduces anxiety and helps me to relax. We can compare notes as time passes. Hopefully these sensitivities will subside. Please don't worry, I think it's all par for the course, after all we did go to extreme measures by having this surgery.

I WISH I would feel less restriction already!
Hey Jane I hadn't thought of that...I am not much of a drinker but might give it a shot one of these days maybe when in a restaurant!

I WISH I would feel less restriction already!
Thanks beautiful! And, how are you doing?

Sigh... stall...
Maybe a litte lower on the carbs? I don't mean Atkins mode just maybe cut them back to around 60 per day and see if that helps. I have had LONG stalls 2 months even!

I WISH I would feel less restriction already!
Stacie, wow time moves on so quickly it's shocking! I can't believe it's been 6 months already since you had your surgery. I know you went through such an ordeal and it is GREAT to know that you have come through and are in the fine tuning process as are many of us. Today (so far) eating came easier. The restriction seems to come on strong some days for some reason and then there are moments where I almost feel normal (little to no discomfort) when eating. Prayer is good so I welcome your offer and extend a huge hug back to you. Like Tiff has said and put on display, there is not much difference between the 32 and 40 bougie. Tiff's a 32 bougie and seems to eat better than I even when she was about 10 months out. I'll keep updating as I go since I think it is very important that those of us who are out further share our experience. After all we share a very exclusive type of surgery and having one another to learn from is invaluable. Stay well and keep in touch!

Thank you Anna! It's so nice to hear from you. I hope you are doing well. xx

Sigh... stall...
You are very early out Ouro and have lost a significant amount of weight already. Before a year out you will likely have reached goal! The energy thing is something you are grappling well with. Apple slices with almond/peanut butter or whatever as long as it's good nutrition your on the right track. I am happy you are not too quick to take the meds...good for you! However I find that a .05 Klonopin will sometimes relax me just enough to help with over apprehension. I've had month long stalls and then suddenly I'm down 5lbs. Try to think healthy nutrition for your body and get on the scale every other week maybe. Hang in there, I wish weight loss was my only concern since being sleeved.

I WISH I would feel less restriction already!
yep I'm with you there Jane and Tiff--I decided to have an endoscopy (July 7th) with a gastroenterologist (not my surgeon) who has a very good reputation in working with gastric bypass patients...he has all my surgical records and I feel he is the best choice in physicians at this point. I am going to contact him before my endoscopy and ask him about further testing as you suggest Tiff. Yeah all in all the weight loss is very satisfactory but the discomfort is troublesome and at this stage of my life I want some peace of mind and be able to appreciate lost weight. Thanks both for your input. I'll keep you posted and let you know the out come. In the mean while I am still trying to get a correct diagnosis with this perpetual sore throat. The Gastro doc who is doing the endo, 7/7, doesn't agree with the ENT that it's "silent reflux" or LPR BTW, since I've been on PPI medication for 8 months straight. He feels that the lump/sore/ mucusy throat issue would have resolved if it were LPR being my stomach acid is for the most part shut down. He feels it's some sort of salivary issue and said his endoscopy is limited to the esphogus and stomach better that another ENT examine me again. So.................that's another avenue yet unresolved. Thanks again my friends.

I WISH I would feel less restriction already!
Right well "slider foods" had the same ill effect on me as I explained I munched on 2 tortilla (dorito like but organic) chips a teaspoon of tuna salad, and then a yogurt and I had to stop short, dump the rest of the yogurt, stand and sweat out the discomfort and pain for nearly 10 minutes. Those are "slider" foods so I really got freaked out. I read somewhere in a post from Tiff that on high humidity days she feels more restriction so I'm wondering if that may be a factor since the humidity has been very high round this part of the planet. But if that is the case then I ask WHY? What would high humidity have to do with increased restriction? Just leaves me a bit more freaked out. I mean what is going on inside of me?? Having a normal stomach I never really thought about what was going on on the inside...having a test tube size stomach my thoughts dwell on how things are working in there. Mind you there are days when eating goes relatively sooth and I feel a sense of well being but it's not stable and I am wondering if ever it will be! At this point I'm not "rocking" my sleeve but it sure the hell is rocking me!

I WISH I would feel less restriction already!
Your pre surgical concerns are important and thank you for showing concern for me. It could very well be scar tissue, I also had a hiatal hernia repaired when I had the sleeve gastrectomy surgery, so perhaps the uncomfortable restriction I often feel has something to do with that. I have scheduled another upper endoscopy early in July with a gastroenterologist who is very familiar with gastric bypass. He has my records from my surgeon. I'm hoping that the hiatal hernia did not reoccur or that I have any erroneous problems that are not easily diagnosed hence remedied. Eating past my full point: Yes, when this happens I most certainly am eating past my full point, but that point seems to occur too soon...where I feel I am not getting appropriate nutrition. Feeling too full too soon freaks me out. I realize that I may be eating too fast since when I am on an empty stomach the sensation is like pre-sleeve so initially I may be taking in bigger bites and not chewing/eating slow enough. It's just that at almost 10 months out I would think I'd be past the tedious stage (it seems that the sleeve only slightly stretches if at all). Hot compresses on my throat? No I have not ever tried that. I suppose that might be a good idea before eating, or maybe even during a "meal". Thanks for the suggestion.

I WISH I would feel less restriction already!
I WISH I would feel less restriction and I'm 9+ months out!!! I don't get what my problem is- Last night I ate small slices of steak, and after about 3 maybe 4 ounces I thought I was going to possibly rupture my esophagus-the pain was horrible and my mouth filled up with saliva like right before one is about to vomit. I was really shaken by the experience which lasted about 15 minutes then, thank God, subsided. Today, I could hardly eat even soft warm cereal (had to throw out half of it) Later I had a teaspoon of tuna, followed by 2 tortilla chips, chewed well and then a Greek blueberry yogurt. Three quarters of the way through the yogurt I felt like my esophagus would explode and I stood up in pain. How much longer can I take this? I'm 10 lbs away from goal (135)-at this rate I'll keep losing weight!!! I'm so freaked out about this already. By now I would figure I'd be able to at LEAST feel comfortable eating small portions but instead even the small stuff is giving me pain. WHEN DOES It get BETTER? My bougie is a 40 for goodness sake!

Still Having Big Problems and I Need Suggestions
I'm a 40f size but I had a hiatal hernia repair and really struggled to get my fluids in. I am still only able to eat small amounts of well chewed food and really only about 4-6oz of soft mushie stuff like hot cereal or yogurt, soup etc. I think the esophagus has so much to do with the difficulty. I am past 9 months out from surgery and after only a few (3-5 tablespoons of any food) my bra strap center of my chest becomes so tight that I have to loosen it...even then the tightness is there so it's not really the bra strap it's the esophagus I'm thinking. I hope you find a way to resolve the issues. My surgeon had me on reglan, (for motility more than nausea), early on while in hospital and afterwards at home. That medication caused me to get extreme anxiety and I had to stop taking it. I still have issues and am trying to work out the quirks from this surgery. Best wishes to you finding resolution to this and any other issue that may arise.

Soy milk versus skim milk
Do you know of a clean/safe source online where raw milk can be purchased? There is whole foods store nearby but I don't think they sell raw milk. I have read so many good things about it.

Soy milk versus skim milk
Hemp milk, Almond milk, hazelnut milk...heck they're milking just about anything these days! I personally like goat milk-tastes no different than cows milk. I like Soy milk too and I'm hoping that if it's certified USDA organic it won't wreak havoc inside me in some freaked out way!

hiatal hernia post VSG?
Dee so sorry...I had a hiatal hernia diagnosis pre surgery during the required pre-op upper endoscopy. My surgeon said he repaired it while doing the sleeve surgery. I recently went to a gastroenterologist re some issues I'm having...I asked him if the hiatal hernia can recur after it's repaired and he said that it can. I will be having another upper endo sched. in July. Keep us updated on Dr. Aceves feedback. I hope you get to speak with him directly.

blowin up the bathroom
If you look at the label of ingredients and it contains sucralose aka splenda---that is what is producing the noxious gaseous expulsions. I refuse to eat any artificial sweetener. Stevia, (brand I like is "Stevia in the raw) works GREAT to sweeten anything and there are quality Protein Bars out there which are free of genetically altered industrial substances that taste sweet.
