  1. Katt, did you consult with any type of alternative/holistic/integrative professional in determining the dosage of Omega 3 to take or was it through trial? I so want to find my way to mental AND physical health through quality nutrition, nutritional supplementation, and physical activity. Although pharmaceutical medication is helpful, I personally prefer not to be dependant upon it long term.
  2. How about that! I saw this report recently. I'm glad you put it up as a post. My favorite vanilla bean, Solgar whey To Go contains .06 arsenic. I don't know if that's considered too much or a mere trace and if it is just a trace does that mean it's safe? :001_tongue:
  3. I am so sorry for the loss of your grandparents. Thank you for sharing some of your life with us. Your doctor seems to have good insight in realizing that post surgery you will no longer be able to use food to sooth and comfort. That reality hit me hard and at 9 months out, I am still grappling with alternative ways to effectively deal with the circumstances of my life and my emotions. Compared to early after surgery I'm improved...but I'm still using anti anxiety medication (sparingly) as a crutch when the anxiety is so bad that it hinders my already diminished capacity to eat. Alas I found a way to lose weight, but was blind to the reality that weight lost in and of itself was not the key to my fulfilment.
  4. Congratulations...cheers to weight lost in good health.
  5. Oh...ew...got it.
  6. I wish I had the ANSWER. Now I'm thinking that once this throat/sinus/reflux? problem is resolved then so will my hovering depression and relentless anxiety. I must say that since loosing a hefty amount of weight (was able to get into an old/new (never worn), pair of jeans yesterday, I am feeling more vulnerable physically and mentally. I don't know but my mind is reeling with information overload because I just keep looking for solutions. When I awake usually too early 5, 6, 7 AM...I am literally burning with anxiety in the "pit of my stomach"...I choose to pray. I often dream and awake with an eeire, or disturbed feeling. I fall asleep again and when I again awake I'm ready to rise but the anxiety lingers as well as that hovering depression, (a general feeling of gloom, and sadness). I've lost my spark and motivation--I don't even care to buy new clothing. I'm trying very hard to shake off these oppressive feelings. The more I read these boards the more I am seeing that I am not alone.....Yet I know there are many here who feel elated since their surgery and have inspiring stories to tell and that's what I want to feel. It's summer and I had hoped with winters passing I would have been lifted...I'm not..so those of you out there who need to express the blues and those who can offer possible solutions...keep them coming. Thanks Ouro...youknowit, katt, ryansgirl, eloquentblue ...
  7. Please clarify. If you didn't mean that YOU force yourself to gag and that since the surgery you find you gag, I gagged for nearly 3 months maybe more, every morning when I brushed my teeth and/or gargled. Just the Water hitting my tongue made me gag and dry heave. So far not one doctor could give me any explaination for it ...troublesome when surgeon, PCP, gastro, or ENT(2)---are clueless. If you are forcing yourself to gag I strongly suggest you stop before you do harm to your body.
  8. I am still trying to figure out if having the sleeve causes acid reflux. I just went to a gastro specialist and have an upper endo scheduled in July. After seeing an ENT recently who did a quick scope and diagnosed me with LPR or "silent" acid reflux, the gastroenterologist told me he doesn't think it's acid reflux since I've been taking a PPI for several months already, I had the sleeve surgery in Sept, 2009. My throat is usually mildly sore and has a kind of mucus that lingers. He gave me the name of another ENT. He also said that usually after this WLS, acid reflux is not a problem...(he has treated many gastric bypass patients). Can you tell me what kind of doctor diagnosed you initially with Barrett's Esophagus with mild dysplasia? Was it a gastroenterologist or ENT? Also what tests were given? Thanks.
  9. What do you mean "you make yourself gag"? Are you saying that you force yourself to gag as in throw up?
  10. It's so easy for people to dismiss anything on the Internet by making broad generalizations such as your husband has done. I hope he is not stubborn and will take up some of the invitations posted above. Maybe he will come around if you are able to get through to him. Best wishes with your WL journey in spite of it all.
  11. I am able to eat leafy greens, carrots, onions, radishes, tomato, spinach, green beans...with ease...not a whole lot but with ease. Shrimp, Tuna, and chicken are a bit harder since i don't tolerate mayo so well but Shrimp is the easiest then tuna, then chicken....chicken is still the toughest meat for me even with mayo as in a salad.
  12. I like Solgar Whey to Go, in Vanilla Bean--Nothing artificial in it and it tastes great in warm cream of wheat or warm oat bran cereal...with some agave nectar, pure maple syrup or stevia "in the raw" for natural and nutritious sweetness. I haven't tasted the Chocolate yet, because I haven't tried this in shake form.
  13. Wow ...what you stated here had momentarily brought me to tears. Thanks so much love.
  14. This is redundant (coming from me)...again,and I'm making a generalization, but I am finding support by interacting with people involved in OA. The method with which a person has dealt with their weight or eating disorder or problem is not as relevant as working towards psychological/emotion or if you will, spiritual freedom/release from captivity towards the compulsion towards food as friend and comforter. People share their "strength, hope, and experience" and, like here, it helps...albeit in increments...but one layer at a time or "one step at a time", relief ensues and the dynamic that has been played out for years begins shift into a healthier more life enhancing existence. Like the sleeve is a tool for the physical body, OA methodology is a tool for healing mind and emotion. The nice thing about it is that you attract and are attracted to people and make friends and alliances...a step further than virtual support via the Internet (which I greatly value). I hope you will consider trying this, as I think it will assist you in turning your weight loss from the sleeve into a rewarding lifestyle change. PM me anytime if you have questions or just want to vent. I stay in the loop here as I find it compliments my involvement with OA in reconstructing the new me. What ever you do regardles of your issues, physically or mentally please do not isolate. You did what you felt you had to do, so let's turn it into a positive step instead of regret. We are here for you.
  15. Congrtulations Jenny, that was a great story. I'm glad things went so smoothly praise God! I'll bet your mom is somewhat relieved too? So, I wish you continued success in your recovery and WL journey.
  16. I'm relieved for you Jillian. I also agree with goodlife, you must face the feelings that will surface as you will no longer to be able to stuff your belly with excessive amounts of food. Keep in mind that testing the limits can damage your sleeve and God forbid, cause a leak. With only 30lbs to lose I think recovering from a leak would be a travesty, since your capacity to eat solid food would be postponed until the leak healed. I hope you understand that with your changed anatomy you won't ever be able to be a "volume" eater again. I too was a volume eater and at 9 months out can only eat a few ounces (2-6), at any given time. It varies from day to day for some reason some days are easier and others I just feel more restriction. I'm down to anywhere from size 8 to 10 depending on the cut and manufacturer of clothing and it has not been the answer to my feeling fulfilled and content. I still resent the fact that I will never be able to eat in the way I always ate (and I ate for many reasons other than hunger). I'm networked with (OA), Overeater's Anomous groups and it is opening up my eyes and mind giving me insight about how food affected my life. I hope you seek out the support you need to adapt well to the lifestyle change. Take it slow and easy now. Cheers, Lis
  17. Yes! and when I have it I can feel it if I take a deep breath.
  18. Daisy please let me know how the stuff works for you and the exact names of the products. I am very concerned about both issues, bone deterioration and esophageal issues. Thanks.
  19. Like greeneyes, I suggest calling your surgeon and speaking to whichever bariatric surgeon is available. If this doesn't subside and you can not get help from your surgeon then if possible go to the ER where he performed your surgery...this way he can be contacted and consulted with. Please be well and keep us informed.
  20. Ditto here Daisy and my last bone density test was at age 39 or maybe 40, soooooooo, like it or not. I'm going to be sure to take the calcium citrate.
  21. So glad to know your doing better Maddie. Thanks for the update.
  22. OMG I'm just about 9 months out and get the same pain under my left breast a bit towards the center of my chest (but under the breast). I just don't know what that pain is. My dad said it might be gas I just had it a few minutes ago and it comes and goes. Please let me know what you doctor says...I had a hiatal hernia repair when I had my sleeve surgery.
  23. Congrats! Super weight loss Ouro...and beautiful sleek bike--ride in good health.
  24. Maddie may God's hand be upon you bringing you healing comfort.
  25. Shriners, hmm any additional info on that?
