  1. Mentally you tell yourself that you are ready for your surgery and come hell or high water you're gonna lose the weight no matter how much you have to work at it. I've had that mental determination since the day of my surgery and i've steadily lost weight since and i exercise as well. Just mentally I was ready for it and having the band in place just really put me into that mode of losing weight.
  2. My sister was very critical at first but she's starting to see how it's working for me and it's getting more and more supportive. I just wish she would take those 1st steps and get the band done herself.
  3. Good for you for taking back control!!! You go!!!
  4. Coming from a needle phobe you do not feel anything during the fills. Ask the doctor to numb you prior to sticking the fill needle in because that needle is vey large. I've had 4 fills so far and I still get squeamish looking at the fill needle.
  5. Lately i've been getting down on myself because I finally hit the 50 lb mark (2 weeks ago) so I was so excited and I thought I would be down another 3-4 lbs by the time I went to the doctor again. I went to the doctor on 4/25 and again this morning 5/30. Well I've been down on myself because I didn't lose anymore weight after that and was getting frustrated. I went to the doctor this morning and between my last visit and this visit I've lost 9 lbs. 9 lbs is alot of weight. Basically we should remember while we get down on ourselves week to week because we feel we should be losing more, we should look at the whole picture!!! Hope everyone has a good weekend!!!
  6. Welcome Lisa! My word of advice to you is to stay focused on your goal. It's very easy to be distracted by food especially during barbeque season.
  7. Hi Shannon. Well liking meat is good because with the lapband you are on a heavy protein diet. The pop will have to go. You can't drink pop with the band. If you ae filled tight it makes you uncomfortable and the carbon can stretch out your stomach. An occasional sweet is okay. You can't go the rest of your life without eating another sweet again, you will set yourself up for failure that way. Good luck! Hope you can both do it together!
  8. Try drinking some fresh brewed Lipton ice tea instead. Unsweetened of course. I replaced that with my addiction to Diet Pepsi. A couple weeks ago I started drinking pop again and I found out that it made me feel like crap. I haven't drank any since then and I feel so much better again. Good luck! I know it's not easy.
  9. You go! That is so awesome! Congrats.
  10. I was the same way. I was supposed to do the liquid diet for 14 days instead I only did 10 days and then the mushy stage for another 14 days after that but I only lasted 10 days. Just be careful and don't eat too much at once since you are still healing.
  11. No problem. I panicked too and I of course felt like an idiot as well.
  12. You can do it! Go back to your doctor and try again. Don't let yourself get discouraged. You got the band for a reason!!!!
  13. hehe glad i'm not the only one who did that!! I was fine. I'm sure you will be.
  14. Wow 60 lbs down that is so awesome!!!! Usually after I get a fill I feel it for about 2 weeks. Everyone's different when it comes to feeling fills and you also have to take this into consideration: your band may be tighter or looser depending upon what time of the month it is.
  15. Hi Tracie. For me the decision was simple I did not want the surgeon cutting and rerouting my insides. The thought of that makes me sick. Also, there are so many more complications involved with GB. Good luck with making your decision!
  16. Hi Shannon. Without a support system in the house it's going to be very challenging for you. Whether you get LB or GB it's still going to be very challenging for you. With GB over time you can stretch out your new stomach if you are not eating properly. At least with LB you can go for fills. the tighter you are the less hungry you are in between meals. If it's a matter of not eating the proper foods if you are the main shopper in the house then don't buy any junk food. Or at least buy junk food that you don't like. If your husband brings in junk food you like tell him he can't eat it around you and he has to hide it. That's what I told my dad. Just picture your goal and stay focused. Your incentive will be losing your weight and getting healthy. Good luck!
  17. Wow that is awesome. Congrats!
  18. You've lost 9 lbs since May 11th? If you've lost that much weight then you are on the right track! Add in some light walking to help move it along.
  19. Not being the fattest one in the room. Not having my fat thighs rub together. Having the hot guy check me out and not my friend. Buying my clothes off the clearance rack instead of the expensive plus size section.
  20. Physically you will be just fine. Your incisions should be closed and well on their way to healing by then. Diet wise you will probably be in the mushy stage so just be careful and make sure you have plenty of mushies on hand. Good luck!
  21. Probably in a couple more fills. I don't have very much restriction either. I have 6cc's in a 14cc band. I have to work hard and really watch what i eat and exercise for me to lose weight. I am starting to notice however that i do get fuller faster. Hopefully with my next fill or two I will be to my "sweet spot".
  22. The 1st week is the toughest. Avoid any potential food situations (i.e. bbq). Also, just avoid your friends because you are going to be cranky (just the 1st week). After the 2nd week you will feel so much better. You will be used to your new diet by then and you aren't so cranky to be around and it's a little easier to be around food. Good luck!
