  1. I HATE tramp stamps, but I still want a tattoo when I hit goal. Not one of those stupid-ass tramp stamps, though. I want a NICE tattoo, maybe a portrait of something or someone. Probably not a tribal, not a trendy Chinese letter, not a flower or star or cartoon character. Not that those are bad, but they just aren't my cup of tea. Sky-diving and a tattoo, those are my rewards.
  2. YES! And that thread of Wheetsin's absolutely rocked. We NEED a post of the week and maybe a thread of the week! Or even of the day.
  3. I don't either. But I'm kind-of peeved about the chick at the top of the page. I can't get rid of her now! And her ghost-arm is bugging the crap out of me!
  4. Depends on what kind of style you like. I can't stand country or super-modern styles. Now, if you are talking Candice Olsen, Arts and Crafts, or Craftsman, I'm in.

    I'm furious, can't you tell? :guess :biggrin1:
  6. I prefer plain vitamin C, to be honest. I generally load up if I feel anything coming on.
  7. That would be me, too. Even in grad school, I rarely study. When I do, it's usually the day before or day of the exam. It really screwed with me during my freshman year, though. I had breezed through high school without studying, and it was a real shock to me when I got to college physics and chemistry. So, I had to learn to study. I still only do minimal studying. Sometimes, I wonder what I'd make if I actually put in a lot of effort.
  8. Definitely, I'm sure. :heh:
  9. I'm hoping that I'll get home in time. If he sticks to his usual schedule, he should be delivering in my area between 4:30-6:00, and I should be home by then. I would have it delivered to my parents' house, but they are a 3 1/2 hour drive from my apartment, so it's still easier to drive to Lexington if I miss the delivery today. I've never had anything delivered to my apartment manager's office. With my luck (and knowing them) they would refuse to sign for it.
  10. I'll probably give a review for the next test, just to help people with that problem. I usually give tests with emphasis placed on the major ideas and concepts in the chapters. I try not to bother too much with the picky little things. Some of it's hard to show them, though, so it just comes down to their ability to memorize. I mean, it's hard for some people to understand things that they can't see with their naked eye or touch with their fingers. I've told them, though, that if I lecture on it, it's completely fair game. I don't test them on the things that I don't go over, but they are responsible for knowing the stuff that's in my PowerPoint presentations.
  11. I get truly sick (flu, bronchitis, etc.) so rarely that I've never seen the need for a flu shot. For a couple of years, though, I was getting sick every single semester. First I got the flu, which was worse than I remember it being (it had been a good 10-15 years since I had it). I couldn't even stand up without getting sick. I finally had to go to the doctor to get a prescription for anti-nausea medication. The next semester, I got bronchitis and lost my voice for a week or so. My ears clogged up so badly that time that I had problems hearing. Again, had to go to the doctor. I probably would have gotten pneumonia if I hadn't, judging from the way my chest ached. The semester after that, I got a bad ear infection and couldn't even walk in a straight line. Seriously, I looked like I was drunk, wobbling all over the place. Usually, though, I don't get sick easily. Sure, I'll get the sniffles, but I don't get sick enough to miss classes. Much to my dismay. :guess
  12. I don't think it's true. Acid would be a problem if you had open incision wounds, but lap-band patients don't. That's more directed at RNY or DS patients, who have had the actual stomach cut and have wounds that would be exposed to the contents of the stomach. They aren't supposed to eat pepper, garlic, acidic foods, strong spices, etc. for a while after surgery, just for that reason.

    Hi vinesqueen! Remember me?
  14. I get so irritated with people that seem to think that Christianity should get a free pass, just because it's Christianity. Know what I mean? Personally, I think a radical extremist is a radical extremist, whether he/she is a Muslim extremist, Christian extremist, or Hindu extremist. One isn't somehow more acceptable than the other.
  15. Liquids go straight through the band, unless you have eaten solids, in which case they can push the solids through and then go straight through. With bypass, I could see a doctor ordering people not to use straws or drink too much liquid, since those patients have only a very small stomach. Lap-band patients don't. We have what is basically a two-chambered stomach, a small upper pouch and a larger lower pouch. Liquids pass straight through the upper pouch to the lower one, so I would imagine that you would probably have to drink a large amount of liquid before you could possibly do any damage. That's also why the "no drinking before meals because the liquids can make you feel more full than you are" advice is not true at all. The only reason we feel full with very little food is because the upper chamber of our stomachs fills up. Liquids consumed before a meal pass straight to the lower chamber, so they have no effect on how quickly you get full.
  16. The sense of entitlement that certain students seem to have is outrageous. Some of them seem to think that because they are paying to take a class, they should get a guaranteed A. I've had people come up to me at the end of the semester and beg me for extra credit. Of course, they're always the people that NEVER took advantage of the extra credit assignments that I offered during the semester. I always tell them, "Sorry, I offered you extra credit, but you never did it. It's too late to worry about your grade now; you should have thought about it earlier in the semester."
  17. Okay, so for the midterm today, I had the exam set up like any other lab practical. Anyone here who's taken a biology class should be familiar with the format, where you move around the lab and have a bunch of stations with different questions set up. How fucking hard is it for people to grasp the direction of "when time is called, follow the arrow on your current set of questions to the next set?" Every time I give a lab exam, I have people who apparently don't know that an arrow pointing to the right means that you need to move to the freaking right! Every. Single. Time.
  18. I was around my parents for the last few days, and they're both pretty sick with sinus infections/bronchitis. I figure that it's just a matter of time before I get it, too. My ears are already itching inside and clogging up, and that's usually the first sign of sinus problems and colds for me.
  19. It's past 1 AM, and I should be in bed. I have to give them their midterm tomorrow and I need to get there early to make copies and set up the exam. It's an hour-long drive, and I need to be there at 8 (at the very latest), so I should be getting up at 6:15, I guess. That gives me 45 minutes to shower, dress, and make a run by Starbucks on the way out of town. But I'm not sleepy, damn it!
  20. I never did respond well to people trying to tell me to do something. It tends to make me want to do the opposite. I figure, if she wants a B in the class, she better do B work.
  21. It's definitely possible.
  22. Well, she's on a scholarship, so hopefully that means that she'll do better. She managed to inform me, though, that she has to make a B in my class in order to keep her scholarship. Hint, hint, you know.
  23. Yep. That's going to ruin my afternoon.
  24. Yep. One girl skipped an entire page of questions accidentally. She made a 47, by the way, which will probably not endear me to her mother, who happens to be the secretary at the college (an extended campus of my university) that I have to be on good terms with if I want my day to go smoothly.
  25. Of course, the one time when I had to be out of town when I was expecting a delivery, the UPS delivery was on time. And as it figures, they won't leave packages at apartments. I got back today about 5 minutes after the UPS guy had left. Literally. I passed the van about 2 miles from my apartment. So now, I've missed two delivery attempts, and I am teaching classes all day tomorrow, so I'll probably miss attempt #3. That means I'll get to make the 45 minute drive to the UPS center in Lexington, KY on Saturday. Yay me. :ranger: :rain:
