Daylight Saveings
Except for Indiana! That always ticked me off. Why do THEY not have to get their times messed up? [/whine] :huytsao

Morning Protein
Protein clumps up into disgusting little lumps when it gets hot, so I think you might be out of luck, protein powder-wise. Believe me, that was one lesson that I learned the hard way.

Will know tomorrow if UHC denies...
That sucks. Definitely have the surgeon's office call Walter, though!

I don't understand (goal weight rant)
Hey, post away! You sound like a very intelligent person, so I think you'll be a ton of fun to debate with! :biggrin1: And, we don't really hold grudges here, so we'll always be supportive on the rest of the board, no matter what tiffs we might have here in RnR. (Tiffs? Who has tiffs in RnR? )

I don't understand (goal weight rant)
I agree with you, Chicke. That comment offended me, and I'm nowhere close to reaching my goal weight yet. It certainly would offend me if I had reached my goal weight, since it implied that anyone who does want to be a healthy BMI thinks that they are better than everyone else and that they are never happy with the way they look.

JK Rowling and Dumbledore's sexuality
I don't know if she meant it the way I interpreted it, but I felt that was basically a criticism of the way the media generally presents homosexuality. You know, gay men being extremely effeminate and obsessed with interior design and lesbians being very butch and masculine. That even though JKR saw Dumbledore as a gay man, she didn't characterize him as the stereotypical gay man. Instead, he was characterized like most REAL gay people, not a caricature of a gay person.

Name one thing people would be surprised to know about you
Yep, I tend to avoid movies that make me think. I just want to have fun and escape for a while. Give me Gidget, or some good car chases, or some big explosions, and I'll be happy. The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Die Hard, Bourne, and Lethal Weapon series are all faves of mine, as is The Hunt for Red October.

Anyone "into" interior decorating?
Holy cow. Some people go WAY overboard. But, I'm sure a lot of people would think $50k would be going way overboard, too. I want LOTS of counter space, real wood cabinets, nice granite counters, a professional gas stove and oven (preferably double), giant fridge, etc. It KILLS me to watch shows about flipping or remodeling houses, where the people doing it totally RUIN the house. My mom and I sit there and bash the idiots. These people will buy a gorgeous (or potentially gorgeous) old home and then go in and rip out all of the characteristic architecture, the authentic tiling, etc. You know, the stuff a lot of people are willing to PAY for. All for making a cold, modern house. And some of the stuff they do, you KNOW a straight, colorblind man designed or picked out, 'cause it's absolutely hideous.

I don't understand (goal weight rant)
I really didn't mean to start this thread to bash anyone. Truly, I just wanted to try to understand why some people choose to remain obese, when they've got this incredible tool that they can use to reach a healthy weight. I really think it does have a lot to do with perception issues, like other people have said. As fat people, I don't think most of us will ever be able to see ourselves as being the weight we are. I mean, even after losing 25 pounds, I've had people tell me that they can see that I've lost weight. My brother's mother-in-law calls me "Shrinking Lady." But I can't see it. I mean, I know I've lost weight, I know that I'm in a smaller size, but I still can't see the weight loss.

What interests do you have that most people think is strange?
:nervous Um, well, that depends on who you're talking about. Weird to my real-life family and friends? Sure, they'd think some of the stuff I'm interested in is weird, if they knew about it (I've never told them). But weird to a lot of my online friends? Nah, most of them are interested in the same stuff. First off, I'm into online fanfiction, generally of a very, very adult variety, in a big way. If y'all don't know what that is, I'm not gonna tell you, 'cause I know you'll think I'm a weirdo. :car: Secondly, I'm very into wildlife, to the point where a dream vacation would be wildlife-watching somewhere exotic, preferably the middle of nowhere in Africa or Madagascar. Now, to other wildlife folk, that's something that they think is pretty darn tame and everyday. To regular people who screech at the first sign of a mouse or snake, it's a tad weird.

Students are going to KILL me.
Yep, they're freshmen. I just really think they overthought the questions and made them a lot more difficult than they really were. I kept telling them, "ALWAYS go with your first instinct. Don't second guess yourself, because 95% of the time, you're going to be wrong." They don't listen, though, which is definitely clear from their grades on this exam.

Holy cow, WASa!
I just opened the box that you sent, and I think you cleaned your kitchen out for me! :car: Thanks! :clap2:

Students are going to KILL me.
Tell me about it! I even gave them three options to choose from to get extra credit. The test was 100 questions, so I told them they could choose one of the following options: 1) use their review sheet for 5 minutes after they had finished, 2) turn in the completed review sheet for 5 points of extra credit, or 3) get up to 5 points by writing a short essay to compare and contrast the way ATP is produced by use of concentration gradients in photosynthesis and aerobic respiration. Now, option 3 SOUNDS hard, but if they knew the chapters like they should have, they'd know it was actually a ridiculously easy question, since it's basically the same process in both photosynthesis and aerobic respiration, just performed in different structures (chloroplast in photosynthesis and mitochondria in aerobic respiration). Hell, I would have given them full credit if they'd said something along the lines of, "In both photosynthesis and aerobic respiration, the movement of electrons along electron transport chains causes hydrogen ions to be transferred across the membrane, causing a concentration gradient with a high concentration of hydrogen ions on one side and a low concentration on the other. Since hydrogen ions want to move to areas of lower concentration, they move back across the membrane through ATP synthase channels, causing a phosphate group to attach to ADP, creating ATP. The only major difference is that this process takes place in the chloroplast in photosynthesis and the mitochondria in respiration." Ta-da! 5 points. Grr. I only had 4 students turn in the review sheet. That would have been the smartest thing to do, followed by the essay (the option NONE of them chose). The rest of them decided to use their review sheet, which was actually a pretty stupid move. They were betting that they'd be able to look through 100 questions in 5 minutes, match them up with corresponding review questions (there was no guarantee that there WAS a corresponding review question, of course), and still be able to answer them. Stupid.

Students are going to KILL me.
I wish, Mark! :whip: I was right about their exam scores, btw. The highest grade was a 76, a mid-C. I'm going to have to curve this one, as much as I hate to. I was trying to be nice to them, too. I even gave them a review sheet last week. I think most of them just over-thought the questions.

most ignorant reply
My dad is the one that makes the stupid "rubber band" remarks. He was talking on the phone to my relatives, telling them that I was having a rubber band put around my stomach. He knows better, too. He was supposedly just doing it to try and be funny (but personally, I think he's just an ass sometimes).

Name one thing people would be surprised to know about you
Um, I'm addicted to the Gidget movies. You know, the ones from the '50s or '60s. Wow, that's embarassing. I used to nag my mom to rent "Gidget Goes Hawaiian" all the time.

How often do you have a protein shake for breakfast?
She'd probably turn as red as her hair.

New Scale that measures hydration?
My parents used to have an old, old Health-O-Meter balance beam scale. I should see if they still have it and if I can have it, if they do (since I know they don't use it now). Seriously, though, that thing was ancient.

Petty yet annoying
Very true, unfortunately.

Stupid vroom-vroom cars!
My god, the one yesterday was the worst one yet. He was literally revving every other second. Rev. Wait a second. Rev. Wait a second. Rev. Through four whole lights. At least he didn't have a whale-tail spoiler on the back of his crappy little civic. That would have REALLY made me want to strangle him.
-
Petty yet annoying
Yeah, I think the only time I've used "sweetie" was when talking to my cats and here on the board when someone is having problems. Well, once when I was trying to talk an absolutely DRUNK friend of mine into going to sleep, too. Why is it that the non-drinkers always get drunk control duty?

Slutty clothes for 5 year olds...
Even in college, it's ridiculous. There was a girl that was doing her Master's at the college where I was doing my undergrad that dressed like an absolute ho, yet didn't understand why other women weren't very friendly to her. She was the type that wore skin tight jeans (seriously, I don't know how she got them zipped, we're talking SKIN TIGHT) and low-cut, extremely tight tank tops with her boobs hanging out. And you know what I saw one day? A girl wearing a mini skirt (one of those stupid ruffly ones that were popular a couple of years ago) that came down maybe 2-3 inches from her ass, walking back to her dorm. It was SNOWING, for Pete's sake! It looked abso-freakin-lutely stupid.
-
What is your favorite cliche expression that you wish you didn't use?
Yep. Most of the ones that come to our area of Tennessee are from Michigan or Indiana. Plus, they seem to want to retire down here.

Stupid vroom-vroom cars!
Does anyone else hate those? I ALWAYS seem to get stuck next to the stupid kid in a stupid little Civic or Sentra who LOVES to rev his stupid little car at every. Single. Traffic Light. I sat through 4 lights yesterday, next to one. Vroom. Vroom. Vroom. Vroom. Stop it already! Or I'll strangle you through your window! It's worse than the ones with too much bass shaking their crappy little cars apart. And can I just say that I really hate it when an ambulance or firetruck driver sets off his siren JUST as I'm passing them? I'm not talking about the ones who are using it to go anywhere, I'm talking about the ones that will set it off once for just a second. One did that yesterday as I was passing him in a turn lane, and it nearly made me drive off the road.
