  1. I use carb master to track food (I always drink plenty of water, and that’s almost all I drink so I don’t track) and macros or the food to keep me on the low carb pre op diet
  2. Exciting! What surgery? What pre op diet?
  3. I will still be in puréed foods for Thanksgiving! that bugged me a little, but I keep reminding myself that getting together is more important than what I eat! (though I may make a pumpkin pudding for myself to enjoy!)
  4. post op people: what did it feel like eating after surgery? puree? soft? solid? was there a sensation difference besides feeling full quickly?
  5. talk to your endocrinologist and listen to your instincts. it sounds like you found the cause of weight gain and it is resolving. you can always do the surgery later if you stall out!
  6. have you been measuring yourself to see if you have lost inches and maybe gained muscles? especially with that incline on the treadmill you might be creating muscle while still loosing fat
  7. lol everyone is different… heck, i am cautious with both xylitol and caffeine… most of the time no reaction, but sometimes it hits right and, ahem, works quite well at lightening the load
  8. Get a different surgeon. This one isn’t worth it
  9. a person i know uses xylitol based gummy bears to break constipation. gastric “side effects” happen with overconsumption of some sugar alcohols (a couple spoonfuls of the sweetener may work too)… the body can’t process it for energy so no calorie issues
  10. my dad is a LADA diabetic and they have done surgery (non bariatric) on him as long as it was under 8.
  11. i am a lot like you… i have read so many firsthand accounts, medical research papers, clinical study results, forums etc etc …. still paranoid that i am missing something but that’s going to cause me issues or mental distress
  12. i hate to ask, but since it was Mexico and they rushed you out… can you get an endoscopy to make sure that they did the correct procedure? a cup seems like a lot only a couple weeks out from surgery (i am pre op so don’t know from actual experience just reading up on it) … i have heard of issues with dental work in mexico not being as described- i would fear the same with surgery… also, from my experience maybe you need to look at macros… i reduced calorie count but didn’t really start big weight changes until i went low carb. it did not change my calorie count much (around 500 less) but severely reducing carbs made weight start to fall off… (41 lbs in 7 months just calories, 36 lbs in less than 10 weeks of carb watching)… different diets work with different body styles, and that may be something to consider and discuss with your nutritionalist. glad you are having doctors help you figure it out. please let us know when you have updates…
  13. thank you to everyone sharing experiences. i hope one week is enough for me!! I plan on taking a solid week off and then part time for two weeks. a bit nervous about the after surgery recovery. i have a desk job but do field work too and will be up and down helping the public within the office. has the potential of being tiring. will have to play it by ear and be ok if i have to take off additional time.
  14. greetings, those of you post op: what surprised you after surgery? what happened that you didn’t expect or think of? (gas issues, rate of weight loss, tiredness issues, food intolerances, other people reaction, or whatever else you were not prepared for)
  15. Congrats on the weight loss! You have done amazing! I am pre op and just starting to see skin issues due to pre op weight loss, so no in your boat yet. I have used bike shorts or compression shorts for years to help with my tummy during exercises. I have bought through Amazon and woman within. Also going to get some compression sleeves (Amazon has them for about $10) because I have massive arm fat that’s starting to dangle and will probably get in the way soon. There are also some zip front full bras made for exercise that look like it may tame the side breast skin and fat that I have starting to be floppy. Don’t have any specific brands but I try to look through reviews on Amazon before buying.
  16. Haven’t heard of that. Maybe have a sensitivity to something you are eating?
  17. Excited … just got surgery date for gastric sleeve Nov 3 2022!
  18. hey everyone!!! just got my official surgery date for November 3rd!!!
  19. so exciting!!!! just got my official date of November 3!
  20. i love hearing how everyone does things!!! small, achievable goals have worked so far and maybe that’s what I need to continue. as @shoppgirl said, the body will ultimately do what it wants health and the ability to say yes to life are my true goals… but so much is pushed for more concrete measurable goals.
  21. How did you decide on goal weights? I have been arbitrary with them for short term but am trying to figure out long term goals …. My first goal was sub 400 - just simply a milestone. My second one was that I wanted to hit 378 (which was about 5% of total) before surgery. Now I am working with trying to get to 360 before surgery (which is arbitrary but seemed doable). I would love to see 100 lbs lost by the end of the year (340 lbs or less) and secretly would love to see 199 once in my adult life (most calculators etc seem to bring me down only into the 220s for “likely” end weight I want to have a balance between small achievable goals and not setting my sights too low. How did you decide or even did you have a goal?
  22. it is really individual; but honestly 1/2 lb a day sounds great!! there is an average weight loss time period. most people loose a decreasing amount per month for about 18 months. In that time there will be times of both rapid weight loss, steady weight loss and stalls where no weight is lost or it fluctuates up and down within water weight range (8 lbs is a gallon of retained fluid) stick to your program, watch what you eat and get your body moving. build muscle as much as you can.
  23. good for you to tackle the problem from several angles at once! as long as you are trying you are NOT a failure but a work in progress!!!! i am pre op but was given the choice of 2 diets; 4-5 premier protein or similar profiled shakes shakes a day and one meal of vegetables and lean protein or 50 total (not net) carbs a day max. i am doing the 50 carbs a day and have been since august. lost about 23 since i got down to 50 carbs a day (5-6 weeks; dropped down carb count for three weeks previous to get used to it) and 16 lbs since August 29th. I am excited for your new start!! i hope you find success to propel you.
  24. i have a very minor case of HS (armpits only, occasional with minor tunneling which heals and a little bit of scarring), i can’t imagine the issues you have with it more severe… have you talked to your derm about getting the pannus removed due to the HS? sometimes it’s all in how it’s coded, not what is actually done
