So, the $64,000 question that I'm sure all newbies want to know: how fast (on average) do most people lose weight after surgery. I know, I know, everyone's different, but surely there is a range. I lost very quickly before and immediately after surgery, but now that I'm about 6 or 7 weeks out, it has slowed dramatically (less than 1/2 pound per day). Is that common? Does it speed up and slow down and then back up and down (much like my investments 🤣)? I'm trying to lose another 50-60 pounds. Should I be thinking 6 months or 2 years?

I was sleeved 12/22/2021. I haven't lost in 3 months. I take in about 800-1000 per day and go to the gym. I think it happens to everyone. I need to lose at least 50 more lbs. I think a lot of it is my age as I'm older than most on here. And yes, every one is different. You've done great! 85 lbs. is a lot of weight to lose. Good luck and keep hanging in there.

it is really individual; but honestly 1/2 lb a day sounds great!!

there is an average weight loss time period. most people loose a decreasing amount per month for about 18 months. In that time there will be times of both rapid weight loss, steady weight loss and stalls where no weight is lost or it fluctuates up and down within Water weight range (8 lbs is a gallon of retained fluid)

stick to your program, watch what you eat and get your body moving. build muscle as much as you can.

Well, I'm six years older than you, so not sure what that will mean. Only exercise I get is a 1+ mile daily walk with my dog. May have to step that up.

I think I may be eating too much Protein and not enough veggies.

You’ll likely get a wide range of answers here cuz we all started off at different weights, have different heights, different diets/exercise habits/genes (you will also read alot of variations of what i just said, ha).

Not counting the first two months when i recorded my highest per-month-losses, i basically lost about 10 lbs a month until i hit goal. But i started out at 235 lbs, am 5’2”, and female.

To factor out starting weights and heights, you could ask for people’s percentage weight loss month over month…but this involves math 😂😂😂

You can always depend upon a couple of things post surgery. Everyone loses at their own rate & every rate is okay. The heady faster rates of loss of the first weeks don’t last. Everyone’s’ rate of loss slows & it will be even slower as you get closer to your goal or your maintenance point.

Sure you may have a week when your loss is a little more or a week it’s a little less. Your weight loss is not an even straight downward line on a graph. It zigs & zags, up & down. If anything it almost curves a little as your rate of loss slows. As long as your general trend is downwards your golden.

I lost almost 70lbs in 6 months but that was me. Generally men lose more quickly but there are other factors that may influence your rate of loss (age, amount to lose, genetics, health status, medications, etc.).

Celebrate every pound you lose. You’ll get where you are meant to be in your time.

I have lost 120lbs in 11 months, so about 11lbs on average a month but I have only been able to move like I can now for the last 4 months. My fat made me so disabled. I think I have done really well, considering.

There are lots of factors to how quickly someone looses weight.

Most importantly, 1/2 a day is 15 lbs a month.. there is NOTHING slow about that.

It is so hard to answer this question cause we all have such different starting stats. I agree with one thing, though, there is nothing slow about 1/2 pound a day. Nothing at all. And be prepared cause the closer you get to a more “normal” bmi it slows to a crawl. I lost about 1/2 pound a MONTH for several months before my body just stopped losing.

I was wondering this too. I'm a little over 4 weeks post-op and I've actually gained 1 lb this week! I'm trying not to get hung up on the number and just go with how I'm feeling, but I was a little discouraged when I've been doing everything right. However, I am a woman and I am pretty close to my monthly visitor, so I'm guessing that is probably why. I hope anyway lol.

Everyone fluctuates. Also, women tend to retain Water around there monthly so it could be that too.

if im reading your profile correctly, youve lost 80 lbs in the last 60 days. thats amazing! It is typical for weight to slow...

i saw above where you think you might be eating too much protien, what are you getting daily with all of your macros?

That helps a lot, actually. My goal is to lose 145 altogether, though 135 would put me at 200 which would be fine. I started in May (with surgery in August) and have lost 85 so far, so I'm optimistic about hitting my goal by spring, much as you have. We'll see.

If you are comfortable, can you say a bit about what foods you are not eating, and what kind of Bariatric surgery you had?

I had VSG and I was fairly strict till I reached my goal, I focused on hitting my Protein goal and drinking 2+L Water a day, I didn’t really eat bread often as it filled me too much and I steered away from too many of my ‘trigger’ foods which were candy, ice cream etc. tried to have two serves of fruit a day and eat as healthy as I could 🙂

      Hey October Surgery friends...how are you doing? I've lost 15 lbs since surgery on 18th.42 lbs overall. Wearing clothes that feel great. Had a bout of cold and stomach flu and still having some nausea off and on after that but getting better, I think. 
      Seems like I fill up and have minor pain quicker when I eat hot foods rather than cold. Anyone else notice this?

        I had surgery Oct 29. Lost 35#. Plateau now. But seeing what clothes fit now is encouraging.
