Just came back from my surgeon follow up. He said it’s just muscles. I need to build up more . Again thank you all for the responses

I also took on a second physical job and yep - the muscles aren't what they were! I regularly get a dull ache in the mid-back region due to my core strength being non-existent. I've also had a couple of injuries that are taking their merry time to get better, the worst of which is the knee I broke badly coming off a bike. It's tricky balancing the food intake with physical activity and I haven't managed to work it out yet.

Another factor to consider is that your muscles & tendons & sinews are relearning how to move & hold your now much smaller body. Your centre of gravity & posture has changed because they’re no longer compensating for that extra weight you carried before.
Aches & pains in hips, knees, back, etc are quite common for a while too. You may also find your balance is off too. My friend & I realised we were slouching because we didn’t have a big tummy to hold up our upper body anymore. And I had upper back pain (though a better fitting smaller bra helped with that 😉).

I am going through a similar thing. I begun volunteering in a charity one day a week. Its very physical for me and entails lots of steps and carrying. I come home drained and aching all over. My calories are low, 1000 to 1200 so I run out of energy quickly and need to eat a Protein Bar and drink a glass of milk just to get me through. When I get home I collapse on the sofa. I need to build up my muscle mass again. I hope it will get easier in time because I love this little job

I have the same issues and its due to muscle wasting. I have started with doing some resistance training and have noticed a small difference. I lost over 100 lbs myself. make sure you are getting enough Protein and I would suggest Water aerobic. this will help build muscle but decrease the workload on your joints that are already taking a beating with physical labor. Speak to your nutritionist or doctor as well for the best recommendations for your specific issues.

First of all, congratulations on your progress! That is amazing!!
Second, I echo @Saxons. Even if you have hit your Protein goal every single day since surgery, muscle loss is an inevitability. Additionally, after having lost so much weight, the way we carry ourselves changes which can lead to new aches and pains as our bodies adjust.
Adding in some weight/resistance work will help build those muscles back up and help your body adjust to its new shape and weight distribution.

I am 5 years out. I would say that your 200 lb weight loss is not just fat, but that you have lost a lot of muscle bulk. That's why you are feeling exhausted on exertion. Did you take to regular exercise during your postop phase to maintain your muscle bulk?
If not, then slow but steady muscle building exercise is the solution. Not more endless cardiovascular, but lifting weights, resistance training and strength building.
You should start to see results in about 6 weeks if you do 30 mins a day.

I am about 9 months post op. I have lost close to 200 lbs.

I took a very long break from work and have taken a job with much physical labor.

I am beyond sore and care barely walk after about 10 hours of my shift . So bad that I walk like I’m about 100 years old.

I didn’t have this pain when I was bigger. It’s been over 2 months at this new job and my body doesn’t seem to be feeling better with this.

    Any tips? What is happening?

Veritas34 reacted to SpartanMaker in NON Drinker Drinking Question. (Alcohol)
It's not uncommon that bariatric programs warn people not to drink alcohol post-op. Some, like your team seem to take a "never again" approach, while some say avoid it for a specific length of time, such as the first year.
As I understand it, here are the biggest concerns those programs have:
The biggest concern by far is that there is an increased risk of developing Alcohol Use Disorder. As @Starwarsandcupcakes mentioned, some research suggest that susceptible patients transfer disordered eating onto alcohol. Some studies have even found that the incidence is as high as 20% of bariatric surgery patients. The second concern is that alcohol affects our altered biology differently. Honestly this is worse for gastric bypass patients, but sleeve patients still have have issues with getting drunk much faster, on much less alcohol. Further, it can take a lot longer to metabolize the alcohol you do consume, meaning you'll stay drunk longer. Bottom line, it's really easy to overdo things and end up completely drunk on a lot less booze than before. There is also the concern that this is wasted calories that provide no nutritional benefit and can slow your weight loss. Obviously for those in maintenance, this doesn't really matter, but for those still losing, it might be a concern for some.

I would think his "non drinker "statement" is more of not being a REGULAR drinker but having occasional drinks. I say that because I am the same. Not really a drinker, maybe 3-4 times a year.

As funny as it sounds it really sucks that I have lost my butt! It hurts bad! Sitting down for some time hurts. Getting up after sitting for a bit hurts… any tips? Anyone have a cushion that helps them with this? Will it get less painful when I loose more weight up top?

Literally my only complaint of this process…

On days where I’m tired of the food my stomach can tolerate, I just bake some squash and okra with some spices and have 1/4 cup as a meal. I’ve tried a lot of Protein sources at 12 weeks out that aren’t working well so in order to not die of boredom, I’ve had squash for dinner probably 2 nights in the last month 🤷🏼‍♀️ dietician approved and all 🥳

At your stage post-op I really enjoyed turkey salad. I got the seasoned turkey breast from Aldi's and just chopped it up in a food processor, added some mayo and it was soooo delicious.
Also I was able to handle Breakfast every day by making two scrambled eggs with shredded cheddar cheese on top.

What does your plan recommend? You should be starting to try lots of different foods now. Just chose the more tender cuts & keep things moist with some sort of sauce or gravy & eat slowly & carefully. Your tummy (or tastebuds) will quickly tell you if it’s not for you yet. And if something doesn’t sit well, don’t give up on it. Just leave it for a week or so & try again.
From two months I was adding beef, lamb, pork, chicken, fish, … to my menu plan roster for dinner. Mince, lamb cutlets or blackstrap, chicken thighs, steak, pork tenderloin, etc. I was also eating some vegetables: steamed green Beans, cabbage & cauliflower florets. (Very little like 2 or 3 beans & a floret😁.) I was also cooking with tomatoes, carrots, mushrooms, celery, onion, spinach leaves, capsicum like in Soups, bolognese sauce, omelettes, savoury mince, braises, etc. I ate scrambled eggs or rolled oats for breakfast & fish (not tinned), 1/2 a sausage (butcher’s not supermarket mass produced) or dinner leftovers for lunch. I never had another shake from week 3 purées.
Just watch drying meat out to much while cooking so maybe no char grills or bbq for a little while.

Hi! I had surgery on 6/17 and went to a baseball game last Saturday. Luckily my seats were in a place I had little stairs. What I did (that may help for future outings) was drank a protien drink at home before leaving, then I sipped on a Gatorade zero with Protein on the drive. I was hoping that the protein and added electrolytes would help. I then bought Water at the game to keep sipping on. I was able to find a place that sold a salad with chicken on it. I can't eat raw veggies so just picked at the chicken.

Hope you feel better soon! I am also hoping full energy comes soon. I am getting restless and not cleared for anything more than walking.

Yep, we all heal & recovery differently and it can be surprising how exhausting simple activities can be for a while. I remember doing a very basic one bag grocery shop & thought I was going to keel over. (Also wanted to punch the ladies gossiping in the doorway ignoring me & blocking my exit - I just wanted to get to my car so I could sit down & go home.)
If you do go out, take an electrolyte drink with you (Hydralyte was my go to) to give you an extra boost.
You'll be out doing lots of things & more than you ever did with your children before you know it.
