  1. I didn't tell my family friends until "after" i got the band (excpt for my husband and my 2 sons).... Of course, you will have to tell those you live with because there are major changes in your cooking/eating habits. My husband and I used to eat out about 2 times a week, but that really isn't very practical now. When we do go out to eat, I have them bring me a "to-go plate" from the get go.. I know I will only eat 3-4 bites and I take the rest home for my hubby to finish off later that night! lol! One thing I would say... stay away from negativity! If they can't be supportive, stay off the topic! Remember why you are doing this... for YOU and your health! You will not be sorry! Good luck and God Bless!
  2. We all knew there was going to be a price. I had a fill last week and finally feel like I am back on track (after nearly a year of stale-mate and juggling the same 10-15 pounds up and down). Luckily, we have the tool we can always fall back on. Keep up the good work and congrats! Hope to see less of you soon! God Bless!
  3. Hey Tracy! I find myself in quite a quandry myself. I had the band in Mexico in 2008 and have lost 90 pounds with about 50 to go, but my weight loss has slowed to a crawl and I have bad reflux again (have had it for years but it subsided for a while after teh band and has returned with a vengeance!).. I would really be interested in any docs you have found that will take on patients banded in Mexico. I have gone back to liquids only in hopes it is only a concentric pouch and will correct itself, but I need to start thinking about what will happen if it is actually a slip! I asked the question BEFORE I had surgery in Mexico "What if I have probelms" and was told that my insurance would kick in and cover problems.. but now, I hear otherwise. I am self pay and in this day and time, getting sick, having medical probs, or an accident, is NOT something I want to think about! Would appreciate any info you can give me!
  4. I am having quite a bit of trouble with reflux and weight loss has slowed to a crawl (2-1/2 years since banding). I am afraid I have a slip, but I also had my band in Mexico. I was unaware that you could not get a doc in U.S. to correct the band if you have problems (actually asked the question beforehand, and was told that my insurance would cover any problems).. I haven't had a slip confirmed yet and have gone back to liquids for a while. Hoping it is just a concentric pouch and will correct itself. Anybody know of a place where I could find info on getting teh band corrected in the U.S. after banding in Mexico! thanks!
  5. Fill.. Piece of cake... lol! Guess I shouldn't say "cake" on this site! Good luck and God Bless!
  6. You guys have nothing to worry about. Actually, they rarely leave anything in the band and other than postop swelling/soreness, you probably won't have any restriction until you get a few fills. Enjoy the holidays and don't be so hard on yourself! Good luck and congrats!
  7. So sorry for your ordeal! My motto is "Everything happens for a reason".. God has plans for you, you just need to be open to them! Good luck in all your endeavors! Hope to see "less of you" in the future! God Bless!
  8. I too have had a few set backs and am about 40 pounds from goal... Right total knee surgery, need a fill but am self pay and have to wait until after the holidays. Still... was the best thing I ever did for myself! Keep up the good work and hope to "see less of you"!
  9. i am having the same problem. I haven't had a fill since June of this year and have plateau'd.... June was my 2-year anniversary and I am afraid I will not continue to lose. I haven't given up, will get another fill as soon as I can (self pay) but I have a bladder surgery coming up soon, so I am going to hold off on a fill until I recoup from that. Good luck and hope to see "less of you" in the near future! God Bless!
  10. Bless your heart! I am so sorry you are having such a hard time. You need to concentrate more on your accomplishments than your disappointments! I have been so discouraged about my "plateau" over the last 6 months, but I have had several health problems/surgeries, my mom died, and my house burned... But by the Grace of God, I will get back on track and I am sure you will turn things around too. You need to associate more with people who are "positive" towards your achievements! Don't give up and don't give in! We will BOTH get there eventually! Shoot me an e-mail and keep in touch! God Bless!
  11. I am getting that now when I go for another Fill.. Everybody keeps telling me I am small enough, but I know where I need to be, and I am not going to quit halfway! Keep up the good work! God Bless!

Me with hubby "BEFORE" and nearly 2 years after band
  14. I LOVE YOUR ATTITUDE! I too did this for me, but my family was NOT SUPPORTIVE (except for my wonderful hubby who has ALWAYS supported and accepted me at any weight/size!),..... My mom told me that was "the most ignorant thing" she had ever heard of! ... My sister told me I was "shallow"... but you know what... I fell a couple of months back (after having lost 90 pounds) and had to have a total knee replacement.... I CANNOT IMAGINE having an extra 90 pounds on top of this surgery... It just doesn't seem possible to survive this thing had I had that extra weight on me... it has been ROUGH! ... Since my surgery, I have stopped my stomach medicine (my hiatal hernia was repaired during surgery), my blood pressure is under control, I am no longer borderline diabetic, and if I never lose another pound, I AM HAPPY AND HEALTHIER THAN I HAVE BEEN IN 20 YEARS! Thank God for this tool! God Bless and hope to see "less of you" soon!
  15. Congrats on the twins! You have done a WONDERFUL job with your weight! I still have quite a bit more to lose... banded June 20, 2008, lost 93 pounds and FINALLY/BARELY in One-Derland! 2 weeks post op from total knee replacement and trying to get back on track! It's a life-time commitment, huh! Again, Congrats!
  16. Hope you are doing well! Congrats on your new journey! Hope to see Less of You soon! God Bless!
  17. "ONE"derland.... weight down under 200... into the "ONE" hundreds...
  18. hmarko, if I eat close to bedtime, I get acid reflux, waking up coughing and throwing up... Not a good experience! so, I just don't do it! Good luck!
  19. As for me, I am unable to eat at least 3 hours before bed but drinking anything (unless it is a milk product) does not seem to bother me. Good Luck and God Bless!
  20. EVERYBODY (including the docs) told me I wasn't big enough for the surgery... and I was 292 pounds! They still tell me I need to STOP losing and I am still 201 pounds! Nobody knows your body like you do! Good luck with your surgery and your NEW BEGINNING! God Bless!
  21. Congrats on your decision/getting your band! Good luck and God Bless!
  22. hate to disagree with you, but I have only 2.8 cc in a 10 cc band... The amount of saline/fill you have has nothing to do wtih the type of restriction you have; it varies for everyone! I too have trouble eating mushies at this point, but hmarko is right.. the slower you eat, the better off you are! Good luck to all and God Bless!
  23. Funny you ask... I went to see my new grandson at the hospital the other day and I referred to myself as usual as "your fat granny"... Now, I am still no little thing, but I have lost 91 pounds and no longer have to go to the "Plus sizes" to buy clothes.. Guess it will take a while to think of myself as "normal"... good luck with your thesis!
  24. Sorry you are having such a rough time, Mickey! The band hasn't been a pic nic for me either.. not for everybody.. Bud i WOULD DO IT AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT! of course, I had a lot more to lose than you did! 88 pounds lighter, and I feel better than I have in YEARS! .. Long way to go, but I have the tool I need now to be successful! Good luck!
