True? Divorce after WLS within 3 years? Why?
Ya know, I don't buy the whole "I get wls for health reasons only" statement I see a lot. I think that the vanity thing really plays into it too, and will fully admit in my case vanity drove my decision. That said, I don't think most people consciously think of it that way. However, the end result tends to bring the physical element back to the forefront if it's been suppressed.

Should LapBandTalk have forums for OTHER Weight Loss Surgeries?
Hey, if this place can have a board so that ladies can discuss masturbation in excruciating detail, it can support alternative WLS.

Do any of you get "crap" from RNY
At my hospital, the issue between RNY and Bandsters got so bad they split the support groups up. According to the bariatric coordinator, the level of hostility was enormous. I have to agree with the poster who stated that this is primarily a female thing. Females use psych-ops to establish pecking orders and dominance, and making someone feel like an outsider is step 1 in controlling them. All I know is that I posted on Obesity Help, and the RnYers just came after me with a passion. I personally don't care what one did to themselves and their internal organs, but calling me out for my choices isn't their place. I haven't seen that level of attack here against other types of surgery, except maybe in isolated R&R threads.

Is there a "Lap Band Talk" for RNY folks?
My parents are now on the path to RNY instead of the band. I want them to be able to talk to people who have had it done. I know about Obesity Help, but was hoping there was a less hostile site to which I could direct them. Any help?

Picking a post-wls shrink?
Has anyone here talked to a shrink after losing a lot of weight? I need to work out some body image issues, but have absolutely no idea how to pick a therapist. Are there ones out there that focus on bariatric issues? Is there a list perhaps? How do you choose?

Just posting to say random restriction is annoying as heck. Yesterday was fine, today I can't drink without gurgling. WTF?

That final push
So since I started this thread, I was diagnosed with a slip, had revision surgery, was unfilled for several months, an bounced back to 200 lbs. Right now I'm at 182 lbs, so time to restart the clock. I'm not sure I even can get to my original goal weight due to the muscle weight, but we will see. All I really know is that I have a pool party with my fellow gym rats on August 16 -- Time to PUSH 17

Dallas/Fort Worth recommendations?
Anyone know a GOOD surgeon in the UHC network in the metromess? I need a chop-n-chisel in the abdominal area.

New jeans
So, yesterday I bought 33" waist jeans. Every brand is different, but that's the smallest I've had yet. $9 each on sale  I was curious about the mannequin, so I checked out what size they had on it. 32 waist! Now, I'm not the same -shape- as Mr Plastic Abs there, but it's kinda cool to think I'm kinda close to that size. Interesting.

Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?
The OP is indeed opposed to lower BMI banding -- she has stated such rather vehemently in the chatroom. The mere existence of this poll can be considered offensive to some. What would people say if I posted a poll asking "Should people over 400 lbs be allowed to have the lapband, or instead forced to have a bypass"? Same thing. Fortunately, blocking in the chatroom is as simple as click on the name -> ignore And here, just go to http://www.lapbandtalk.com/profile.php?do=ignorelist

Confused
What's the distinction between this social group and the "Life At (or Near) Goal Weight" forum?

That's what the ignore list is for: those who tire of those who post just to post

Signifigant Other's Insecurities, is it OUR job to stop them?
Yep, that's clearly an abusive pattern. Beware, spending too much time in that kind of environment can warp your through processes and make you think it's 'normal'. It's not, it's unhealthy and damaging. Time to make him talk with a neutral party, to see if he can fix his head. In the meantime, based on my experiences, it's probably not a bad idea to start planning. This may sound bad, but here it is: go get a safe deposit box in your name at a different bank. Get a PO box/mailing center address too. Start stashing some *cash* in the safety deposit box, and get a credit card or two in your name only sent to the PO box and stash it in the safety deposit box. You may never need it, but if you do, you will NEED it. Hate to be the bearer of that idea, but I've been there done that, got the paperwork...

Anyone else noticed?
You know, once upon a time I didn't get where you were coming from during that debate. I may actually have said negative things to you. If I did, I apologize -- because I now fully understand where you're coming from. This place, despite the "life at goal' forum, is no place for those of us who have worked hard and had success. Recovering alcoholics have their spaces, recovering druggies have their spaces, but there's apparently no place for us recovering fatties. It's a shame, because I'll always be an obese person in remission. Where do I go??
-
Last stage?
I asked this elsewhere, but wanted a 'goal-ster' viewpoint: when do people forget your old self? I'm getting -really- tired of every conversation with people eventually including something about my weight loss/eating/exercise/etc. I'm tired of coworkers still treating me as if I were 'fat and lazy' (not that I was ever lazy). I'm tired of being firmly in the 'friend zone'. It's almost as if for most people, they're just sitting back waiting for the fatman to reappear. I'm only a year out, so I'm guessing that this goes away after a while, but perhaps it doesn't. Maybe the next step is to move somewhere that people never knew that old me? Thoughts?

Signifigant Other's Insecurities, is it OUR job to stop them?
Maybe he thinks he doesn't match anymore. You know, 4s and 4s, 8s and 8s. Sometimes there's a jump there, but not too often or too far. Maybe now he thinks you're an 11, and he's a 3? edit: so maybe it's time for him to become an 11 -- or for you to find one...

Is moving away the last stage of recovery?
Hope2B got it right, it's not a generalized discussion, it's about MY weight And I've never been to Huntsville, although it might be an ok place to which to relocate
