glannin reacted to catwoman7 in weight regain after gastric bypass surgery
go back to how you were eating the first year (not all the way back to liquids or purees - but back to way you were eating once you were a month or two out. That is, Protein first, then veggies, and then, if you still have room, maybe a small serving of fruit or whole-grain carb.
figure out what your sweet spot is calorie-wise. You can do that by tracking. First track for a week or two while eating what you're currently eating to see what your average calorie intake is NOW. Once you know that number, cut out about 100 calories a day. After a couple of weeks, if you're not seeing results on the scale, cut out another 100 calories. Rinse and repeat until you start losing again.
another idea is to join Weight Watchers. I know several vets who are fighting regain who've had success with the new WW program.

Hello,
I am so glad to hear April is you month. May date is the 7th of April 4 days after my 56th birthday. Happy Birthday to me...This is my gift to myself. I can not wait. I am in Michigan started the journey in May of 2019. Due to my insurance I had to go 6 months in a row with missing any appointments. on my last appointment I gained some weight so they gave me another month, to make sure I was living the bariatric life style...so I did good in November lost 11 lbs. my next goal was to stop smoking which I did (happy dance) and now I have to be 3 months smoke free, hence my date in April. I am very excited to do this I am dragging along so uncomfortably right now... let's do this!!!!!

No you are fine - Your body is going thru healing and you are holding Water - Just stay on the plan and remember this is a journey not a sprint. You are in the toughest times right now and it gets easier and smoother as you go along

glannin reacted to AZhiker in RNY GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY IS IN 2 DAYS !
I was required to attend a hospital class before surgery that explained the whole process from beginning to end. Basically you go to the preop area, get changed into a gown, get an IV, hooked up to monitors, have your vitals taken, and then get rolled into surgery. You may or may not get a little sedation before you roll, or you may get it in the OR. At any rate, you go to sleep with meds through the IV, get intubated, and maintained on gas anesthesia. You wake up afterward in recovery and once you are awake and stable, you will go to your room. There you will continue to wake up a bit more, get some pain med through the IV if you need it, and then start walking! You will be given liquids to drink. (I brought my own Protein Drink and broth, as I don't do sugar, gluten, artificial colors or sweeteners.) I did not eat the Jello or Protein goo they brought. Turns out the hospital did actually have gluten free broth, so that was great.
I stayed one night and was home the next day. If you use a CPAP, bring your own machine, mask, and power cord, regardless of what they say about using their own machines. My tummy was so sore it was pretty hard to get out of bed and walk at first. They brought me a little firm pillow to brace my tummy with, and that helped 1000%. It was my best friend for about 2 weeks, whenever I rolled over, got out of bed, or stood up. (They actually give these pillow to cardiac surgical patients who use theme to brace against their chests when coughing or moving. The hospital volunteers sew them.) You should ask for one or take something similar - small and firm. Doesn't have to be any bigger than a travel size pillow, but needs to be a lot firmer - like if you took the travel pillow and stuffed into a pillow case half the size.
Best wishes! Yes, it will hurt at first, but focus on getting out of bed and walking! I was the first surgery of the morning, so I was the first patient on the floor walking that afternoon. The nurses were very encouraging and proud of me for taking the initiative to get moving. Sip and walk, sip and walk! Keep us posted on your progress.

glannin reacted to FluffyChix in When (if ever) did you stop thinking of yourself as fat?
I am morbidly obese. I weigh 130lbs. I will always be morbidly obese. That is my fact that I live with every day. It's the reality I choose to keep because it reminds me that there is no magic metabolic cure or make-over that is permanent and lasting. I will never be a "naturally thin", never obese person. And I don't have the metabolism or the body that would show that. I have millions of empty, greedy, hormonally active little fat cells just lurking and waiting for life to happen. And for me to slip back in the habits of a lifetime that helped contribute to my dances at the Obesity Ball. I'm only in remission from this terrible disease.
And hopefully, recognizing the play book will keep me sharp and focused and protect me from delusion and complacency. Because I don't want to resume old habits and reawaken the inner MO person again. If I take care of the 2lb gain, I might be spared the 20 or 200lb regain. And it happens so quickly.
I see myself as thin and normal weight in a mirror or in a reflection. I see imperfections. But mentally, internally, I know I'm simply TOFI.
