CheerfulLoser reacted to AZhiker in Super cold hands and feet?
Once you start losing your fat, it only gets worse! Losing weight throws you into a different metabolic mode, and getting cold easily is part of it. Now that I dropped 110 pounds of insulating blubber, I am cold ALL the time. Can't believe I am looking forward to summer, for the first time in my life!

I’m the same way, and it’s unfortunately not uncommon post-surgery. There are many threads on this topic, if you use the search function.
I had surgery in December 2019. I wear slippers while home, and warm socks always. If that’s not enough, I made a foot warmer (flannel bag with rice in it, reheats in the microwave) that I use daily.

This may sound simple, but my dietitian recommends Flintstones Complete. One chewable per day and done.
I do also take a Calcium and Biotin supplement. For calcium, I use BariMelts (natural berry flavor). For biotin, I use vita fusion (blueberry chewable).

Absolutely. I hated comments on weight gain and I hated comments on weight loss.

I figure that I was thankful when no one commented when I was *gaining* weight, so I’m going to be perfectly happy for no one to comment on my losses as well!

CheerfulLoser got a reaction from KarenLR75 in Little vent: spousal comments
I’m five days post-op. Literally, five days. Stitches, pain meds, learning to eat, all the hot mess. And my darling husband says, “You know, I’m not really attracted to thin women. I hope you don’t lose very much weight.”
WTH. I’ve been working toward this goal for 13 months, and he just mentions this now. Seems like all those times i asked if he had any questions, comments, or input that this should have come up. I asked him to come to the education classes and he said we could talk after, which we did. I am furious.

I too heard those statistics prior to surgery, and did some heavy research and soul searching prior to going forward. Here are some of the things I learned:
The divorce rate is highest for couples in which the person getting surgery was at a very high weight at the start of the relationship. Otherwise the divorce rate is the same as any other couple.
My takeaway is that sometimes there is a power differential in a relationship. As someone loses weight, they tend to gain confidence and in relationships in which they were submissive prior, they can start to stand their ground more. For the partner used to being in control, this can be an adjustment. Either they adapt or they get more controlling. Of course there is more that goes into it. People, and relationships, are very complex.
For me, I was always confident in my relationship. My partner and I met when I was actually pretty close to the weight I am now (about 30 years ago). The surgery and weight loss hasn’t diminished our relationship, because it was always on equal footing and healthy. Instead, like Catwoman, we are able to do A LOT more together. I don’t feel like I’m holding him back from fun stuff anymore. He’s never been overweight.
Anyhoo, it’s good to be aware of changes that may happen in relationships, but it’s not a done deal, you know? It sounds like you are working towards being more supportive, and joining her rather than trying to control her (get her not to do it). I think it’s a healthy step, to be sure.
Marriage counseling as you go through this time of transition may not be a bad idea.

Had a fun NSV today — was asked to participate in a video for work and totally fit in all of the “props” they required us to wear. So crazy!

You are both so kind and encouraging. Thanks. I WILL get on top of this! The best news today is that my sleep doctore does not think I need my CPAP anymore. I will have a sleep study next week to verify. Woo Hoo!!!!

CheerfulLoser got a reaction from AZhiker in Two silly questions re: protein and lower starting weight
Oh my stars, this is exactly what i thought! I agree, it's time to amp up the protein, one way or another.
AZhiker, thanks so much for this recommendation. It looks like I need ~10-15 more grams of protein per day. Also, I wanted to thank you for some of your posts on exercise. I've found them really inspiring. I've started lifting a few days per week, and I'm adding in some yoga. Once I get stronger (and hopefully restart the weight loss), I'm going to start running again. I really can't wait!
Thanks so much for this bit of potential context. I was just so flummoxed when he said it -- I really should have asked a follow up question, but my mind just sorta went into a "what the heck!?!?" space.
Thanks, folks, for the sanity check!

CheerfulLoser reacted to Losingit2018 in Two silly questions re: protein and lower starting weight
You should be getting a minimum of 60 grams of Protein your surgeon sounds like a quack! Why would he even do an rny if your only hope was to lose 20 pounds?
you are just in a stall. Increase your protein, continue on your plan and it will break.
hang in there!

CheerfulLoser reacted to AZhiker in Two silly questions re: protein and lower starting weight
Here re the guidelines for females that were given by my surgeon:
60" tall (5 feet) - 50-60 gm per day
65" tall (5 ft 5 in) - 60-65 gm per day
70" tall (5 ft 8 in) - 65-70 gm per day
Of course you are still going to keep losing weight! You haven't even completely healed from the surgery yet! You will most likely lose most of your weight in the first 6 months. Just hang in there. Keep your liquids up, get at least 7 hours of sleep a night, and start building an exercise program that you enjoy.

CheerfulLoser reacted to Shannurse in Dehydrated?
I swear I could've written this post myself! Since Saturday, I feel like I've been digging myself out of a hydration/protein deficit. So, instead of tackling my physical activity goal for this week, I've found myself back on the couch, taking "small, frequent sips" of Water, eating eggs and turkey, and swilling Protein Shakes. *sigh*
But, I guess it's like my college softball coach used to say, "Practice makes Permanent." We got this.

Today is my 1 month surgery anniversary, and I was rewarded with a trip to ONEderland!!! Hit 199 this morning!! Feeling great, and can't wait to see what next month will hold for me!!
I vow to never see a "2" in front my weight again!!

CheerfulLoser got a reaction from Slimming Down Steve in How are my fellow December surgeries doing?
Had a RNY on 20 Dec, and things are going overall pretty well. Loving the soft / smooshy foods... my love affair with Protein Shakes is sadly o.v.e.r. for now. Hoping to start liking them again some day soon.
I'm afraid the three-week weight stall has me in its grasp. I have always told myself that it's natural, to be stoic about it, it will surely pass, stay away from the scale... but golly I'm not feeling nearly as adult about it now that my scale isn't steadily dropping the weight. I've been bouncing around for about five days now on the same pound. It's fine, I know, but I'm just eager for more dropped pounds. 🙂
Starting weight: 228
Surgery weight: 205
Current weight: 187

I did an at-home test and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I did not have to do an in-lab test at all.
