In my opinion, people tend to post difficulties/problems more so than positive issues mainly because they are seeking advice or comfort. Not many people post just to say their Bariatric surgery is going great.
Now to answer was it worth it? For me, YES. I did not find it that difficult of a surgery or diet to follow. Was it all fun? no. But the results are fun!
Keep a positive attitude and enjoy the ride.

I can't stand to look at photos with an half eaten meal with teeth marks (sandwiches/burgers etc) for some reason it just grosses me out.

I also hate the word "obese". High cringe factor for whatever reason.

I’m already over it. Eating whatever I wanted was not as fun as I thought it might be. My surgery is in 2 weeks. I’m a low bmi patient so I ably have to do the pre op diet for the one day before. I’m so ready for it and just sick and exhausted with my obsessive relationship with food. Ready to put the brakes on.

Yes lots of us had difficulty drinking in the early days of this surgery. If you are drinking icy cold drinks and you are getting the crampy feeling, try warming your drinks. You can also thin out your shakes if they seem thick or gloopy. Tightness in your chest is probably your new tummy being full.
Just do your very best. As the internal swelling goes down it does get easier. You should be able to increase your Fluid intake everyday

rcordero13 reacted to Sunnyway in ONEderland! It took one year.
It took one year and two weeks post surgery (plus 7 months pre-surgery), but today, nekked, on my own scale, I hit ONEderland, 199.6 lbs. Yipee! I know it's transitory and I'll bounce back and forth for a while, but this is the first time my scale has shown under 200 lbs for about 25 years. I've gone from a size 30-32 to an 18-20.
My hair is growing back. My brother is moving back home after 30+ years as an expat. I've booked a southern Caribbean cruise for April and he's going with me. All is good!
Just when I finally got all skinny leg pants, I discovered that the "in" style is again baggies. Well, there are some things you just can't win.

    started at 235 (5'2" female)
lost 100% of "excess weight" (baseline calculated as 135 ideal weight by my surgeon) by 6 months
got to MY revised goal weight of by 7 months.
lost a bit more after that, gained some back, and nowadays hover around 118-120. i'm 4 years out.
in terms of weight loss slowing down: not counting the first 2 months where i saw higher losses, i was pretty consistent during weight loss phase with a loss of about 10 lbs a month until goal. after that it slowed alot down, but i was purposely trying to.
    YMMV

I'm 5'3. I had my vsg at around 200, got to 160. No problem getting it approved due to comorbities. I held that for about 6 years, felt good, most comorbities resolved. But then I got severe gerd and had an rny to fix gerd over a year ago, now weigh 109 lbs.

There are a few things you can rely on during this process. And all of them are okay. None are wrong or right.
Everyone loses at their own rate. Some lose more quickly. Others lose more slowly. Many factors influence this including, age, gender, pre existing health conditions, medications, etc. Hence the range of possible loss your surgeon suggested in your first month. The more you have to lose, the faster you’ll lose at first. Everyone’s rate of loss slows as they get closer to their final weight. Stalls happen. You will have times the scales won’t move. The first often occurs around week 3+/- & they often last 1-3 weeks. Just stick to your plan & your weight loss will start again. Not every one reaches their goal & some exceed their goal. The average loss at the three year mark is about 65% of the weight you were to lose to put you in a healthy range. I’d expect that is where the 55lb weight loss your surgeon has suggested comes from. Like you, my BMI was 35. I’d lost all my weight by 6 months but continued to lose for another 11 months while sitting out my maintenance, albeit very slowly, to about where I am now. But that was my journey. Yours could be similar or different & that’s okay.
All the best with your surgery & journey.

I looked at it when I first put in the bowl and thought man I'm gonna kill this and want more. Nope. Sliced the banana and added to the baggy in the freezer with the rest of it and my dog was more than happy with that leftover egg. Insane.

This is my first "meal" since surgery, day one of phase 3. One egg scrambled with one teaspoon of whole milk, a sprinkle of black pepper and paprika and 1/4 of banana. Unfortunately this is the post pic as I forgot to take a pre pic but gotta tell you it was not that much larger. I only had about 4 SMALL bites of the egg and started getting that good old feeling right at my sternum area. The 4 bites were over a period of about 10-15 minutes. Very odd feeling to eat such a small amount and have a full belly. This is going to be weird getting used to.

It’s hard to look at these. I can’t wait until I’m onto real food again! I’ve been dreaming of chicken salad.. and of getting to the stage where I can do ricotta bakes.. and maybe even rice-less burrito bowls...

I had a sleeve 5 years ago. It caused me to have severe acid reflux. I lost weight in the beginning but gained the majority of it back. If I had to do it over I would have started with the Roux en y. I ended up needing to have the RNY anyway because of the severe acid reflux. I guess the only way you can correct the acid reflux is to do a RNY because it forms a wall so the acid can’t travel back up your esophagus. Since I’ve had the RNY I have also discovered it is also almost impossible to throw up. So I have horrible dry heaves when I am nauseous. The sleeve works for a lot of people, but it just didn’t work for me.

My only kind of regret (as corny as it sounds and has been said before on these forums), is not having had done this sooner. I looked at bariatric surgery 9 years ago and decided it was not for me at the time. I feel mentally at that time I was not were I am today and feel my maturity today is part of my success.

Gosh no. I have had zero complications though - no dumping or other food intolerances, no heartburn. The worst part has been my thinning hair. It distresses me at times but not enough that I ever regret the surgery.

I am just over 3 months post surgery. Would I do it again??? YES! YES! YES! I’m 65 years old and have been very overweight for 35+ years. I honestly had zero problems after surgery: no pain, no nausea, nada!
I’m losing weight more slowly than some in this forum, but exactly what my surgeon said to expect. I’ve lost 40 lbs, 2 dress sizes, and feel great! My only regret is I wish I wouldn’t have been so scared of the surgery and did it sooner.
But I thank God every day for giving me this chance to lose weight, get to feeling better, have less pain and more energy and hopefully live a fuller life with my husband, my kids, and my beautiful grandbabies!!!
