  1. Hey! I’m in the exact same boat and was sleeved on 6/4...lol! I woke up thinking I was dying. LOL a few drugs later and about 8 more hours and I was ok. I literally had a few dreams about biting into food I was so hungry. While liquids helped for awhile I’m now super hungry again and dreaming of cottage cheese and egg. Protein shakes, soup and yogurt are not doing it now. Im super hydrated. This girl wants food. And the overkill of artificial sweeteners is a little much. It’s in everything but the broth. Can’t wait for a little variety. I have another week to go.
  2. I lost a lot of weight earlier in life and went through these same feelings. I was so hurt at how I was treated differently by people who I always cared about. They seemed to like me more when there was “less to like.” I got attention from men that I wasn’t used to getting. People talked to me that had never given me the time of day and I was bitter. What crutch did I want to turn to when I went through those emotions? Food, of course. It was really a frustrating paradox.
  3. That’s what I’m most looking forward to. Taking my kid on some rides at the amusement park. I won’t try right now bc I don’t want to be told I don’t fit and feel ashamed.
  4. I just searched this because I had VSG Tuesday and have struggled with tightness when I tried eating/drinking anything, but just now realized i fairly quickly sucked down what was maybe 6 oz of protein shake and wondered if I was really going to regret it. No pain so far but I feel a little gurgling down there. It tasted good bc I was hungry and before I knew it, I drank 2-3x more than what had been “normal” since surgery. I was starting to panic myself a little that I was going to split my staples.
  5. So I’m in my room and Doing ok. Woke up in a LOT of pain. They won’t let me get up and walk and I am a little annoyed. I’m also nodding off when I am trying to type. Good luck everyone on the schedule tomorrow or this week New me is ready to rock and roll.
  6. Ok so here I am. In a gown and waiting. Here we go. Talk to you all when I’m on the other side....
  7. So initially they said I had a 70 dollar copay. Then I said “oh ok forget it then, my dr said they thought it would be free or almost free and they said I could use Centrum chewables which cost like 5 bucks, so you do the math...lol.” The lady laughed and agreed with me and then said “hold on” a minute and then came back and told me that my copay would be covered. Lol. Sooooo I would say if you let them know your doc expected you to have no copay but gave you a cheap alternative, they will accommodate. As someone who has worked in sales a very long time it may be worth the expense to them to keep his or her business as a prescribing dr.
  8. Good luck! My surgery is today and it’s already been a very long journey, but what sticks out most to me is how many people say they wish they had done this sooner.
  9. So I have Nutrition Direct set up via a nascobal prescription from my doctor and I get all my vitamins and supplements shipped to me free. Then if there’s anything I can’t take after surgery I will try other options but free is tough to beat. I’d ask your dr or look them up. No copay, etc.
  10. I sure will. One more surgery shower and a ride to the hospital. My husband and sister both asked if I was sure about this tonight. Nothing like poking the bear here at the last minute.
  11. Welcome! June is the best group. Just sayin. I talked to admissions today because I got a z pack this morning for my throat. She said I should still plan on being there. As of now I go in at 9am tomorrow for 11:15 showtime. chicken or beef broth as my last meal? Maybe a couple popsicles. LOL. I was laughing at one of my last splurges at Olive Garden with a friend. I felt like I was eating like I was headed to the chair. LMAO
  12. I’ve been fighting one for over a week. Was doing better but this morning my throat was pretty sore. I have to call in the morning to see what the surgeons office says. I don’t feel all that bad but I do have spots back there so I may need antibiotics. If this postpones me I’m going to be so annoyed.
  13. Wonderful!! Congrats
  14. Had my final tests and class before surgery today. Now I wait for my call Monday night to tell me when my surgery is on Tuesday. Can’t believe I made it here. This time next week I will have a new belly.
  15. Oh no-I’m glad I’m not the only one but I’m also sorry you’re in the same boat. I think the drinking issue is a choice made by the patient, not the surgeon’s issue. I’m sure they were told not to drink. My instructions on that were pretty clear. They don’t want us drinking at all first year. And not more than an occasional drink after. It may be hard but I think for me it will be harder to know I can’t ever eat an entire sandwich again? I mean if I am satisfied, maybe it will be ok. It’s just hard to imagine I will ever feel satisfied from a quarter cup of food. And knowing I can’t really have sugar anymore is a little scary. I’m trying really hard to like fake sweeteners though. Lol
  16. Guys, they called from pre-admission to schedule my pre class and final tests today and I panicked a little. Maybe because I just realized I am 12 days(almost 11) away and that eating is literally about to stop. ? I guess it’s just getting really real now and I’ve been talking about this so long I feel like maybe a part of me thought I would never get here. Is anyone else panicking a little here in the 11th hour? I’m afraid I’m going to break the rules, hurt myself or worst of all, not lose weight.
  17. Yea my surgeon made the comment that 50% of people who start the journey don’t make it to where we are. So if you’re doubting yourself right now, chew on that. It actually really boosted me from my doubts. I can do this. We can do this. We all want it and want success and a healthier life.
  18. It’s so strange how different surgeons are. I don’t have a pre op diet at all but will be making as many good choices as possible with a few last “treats” off and on. Things I know I won’t be eating again or for a long time. The good thing is I have been following the protein first rule for a loooooong time now so I’m starting to crave protein more and more. I’m having a hard time believing this is happening in a few weeks.
  19. So I actually thought the same and found some sugar free snow cone syrups at The store. We’ve had a snow cone machine for years and I pull it out every summer but was thinking it will be a lifesaver when I’m recovering if the cold doesn’t bother me too much. I can tell you I’ve used vanilla syrups in them before and loved them. You can mix with fruity flavors too if you like creamsicles.
  20. Hey all, I got my date yesterday for VSG on 6/4 and I am...in disbelief. I’ve struggled my whole life as many can relate to here. I did lose a large amount of weight in my late teens and 20s but after an accident that stopped my workouts and having kids and emotionally eating though a lot of sh&$ in the last 10-15 years I am bigger than ever and this was my last hope. I am excited and a little scared but ready to not be obese anymore. I started almost 18 months ago. 1 insurance change, 1 hospital change and 3 doctors later, I have a plan and a date.
  21. Just got my date today. Scheduled for 6/4. It took over a year but I made it this far and am glad to join the June club. ☺️
  22. Yep-Schumacher. You must be in town here too!:) they switched me to Brown. I liked him ok at the seminar I had to attend but damn his ratings are low and my original surgeon who I was referred to said he would only recommended Schumacher. I don’t think it means he wouldn’t recommend Brown just that he didn’t know anyone else. My issue is his comments online.
  23. Thanks for the support everyone. I’m not going to rule him out yet but it’s major surgery and I need to trust the person doing it. It helps not feeling like the only one with such a long battle to get surgery. I have a 50 BMI and seeing so many much lower than that getting surgery makes me feel like the universe just wants me to fail. I’m doing this because my health is rapidly declining and the delay after delay is scaring me. Thanks for letting me vent.
  24. Yes, it’s just so frustrating. This journey started for me with a plan that was supposed to cover surgery but an employer that opted out so I got my hopes up to get shot down. Then a wait to switch insurance. Then once it was switched I had to switch docs/hospitals. Shot down again. Had to start over from the very beginning even though I had completed the insurance requirements with the first hospital. Then once I was approved with the new dr but waiting for my date they call me with this news and tell me at least another month to wait and a new approval needed. All the while I can’t smile or even drink without drooling out the side of my mouth right now. I’m a complete mess and just sitting here in self pity. I know it will get better but I am having a hard time Deciding what to do about this surgeon. Going from a Dr with 4 star ratings online to one at 2.5 is not appealing to me. I mean what is it this guy has done to make everyone so unhappy?? I’m concerned about it. I can’t lie. But I only have a few surgeons to choose from thanks to UHC. :(
  25. So annoyed and frustrated right now. After over a year of waiting and coming to seminars, groups, pre ops etc and then insurance saying I had to use a different surgeon due to COE requirements I was one appointment away from scheduling. Everything approved and had a single pre op class left in a few weeks. Just got a call today that my SECOND surgeon resigned. Now they have to resubmit with another COE surgeon at this COE. New surgeons ratings online are considerably lower. I mean I’m not so desperate I want just anyone rearranging my internal organs?. I’m so angry and frustrated with this process I’m losing hope. On top of this I was in the ER just a couple days ago and diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. So half my face is paralyzed. I’m so low right now I can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. Just feeling very hopeless and needed to vent where other people may have dealt with the same red tape and hurdles and hopelessness.
