June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Well I would have been there a loooooong time. 8 days. No I’m not kidding and I didn’t take anything and I wasn’t eating much so no discomfort. Everything is normal now.

protein shakes make me puke
Drink what you can. Some people have issues drinking. I had no pain immediately after surgery. I was also very well medicated so that might be why. I couldn’t stand the protein shakes. The first couple were good just because I was so hungry but a week in I was going nuts and when I finally got to soft food I’m drinking as few as possible because I can’t stand them either. Think of it as “taking your medicine”. Lol. I agree on the clear. They’re much less thick and sickening. Water down and put on ice??

Down 100 pounds this morning!
Oh congrats!!!

Retraining your brain does anyone understand it
Lol!! No judgement from me? We are not making a change for a day or a week, but forever. And there will be weak moments. It’s making sure they don’t derail us that matters, IMHO.

Sense of smell heightened
? now that is a new one?I’m not even sure I would know what corn smelled like unless you mean like a corn chip, Frito-ish kind of smell?

My Hospital Bag..??
I recommend an extra long phone cord. I bought one the day before and was glad I did. Made me more mobile in bed. I was allowed to shower so I also used my toiletries, brush, lotion, lip balm, a hair clip, AirPods and a cardigan. And really comfy clothes that double as pjs so I looked decent and felt good. The rest of the time I was sleeping or talking with med team.

Starting to feel very, very scared
You should have some fear of course. It’s normal. Im 2 weeks post op, and even when the pain was the worst I don’t regret this. That doesn’t mean it’s been mentally easy even these first few weeks but I am so excited to “start over” my relationship with food and teach myself to eat only what is good for me, nutritious and in the best interest of my health. I already feel better and have more energy so I can’t imagine how I will feel in 3 months or 6 or 12. I would do it again in a minute. And I wish I had done it sooner.

Sense of smell heightened
Ok so I thought I had a strong sniffer but this is on a whole new level. Like burying my face in an armpit strong. ???Sorry for being so graphic but just being honest. I’ve never been so offended by smells in my life.

Sense of smell heightened
Oh I’m so glad I’m not crazy. The garlic is literally putrid. I don’t know how long I am going to be like this or if it gets better but I .will be sad if I can’t ever eat or be around garlic again! Lol

Retraining your brain does anyone understand it
@JanJan19 Lmao I read your cottage cheese post and decided not to ask if advancing a day or two early would kill me. I didn’t want to get scolded either. I mean if we were all great dieters most of us wouldn’t be here in the first place. JS. I made it to foods today without cheating except I added a little shredded cheese to my grits the last couple days, but yea, I hear you. And at some point those cream Soups and yogurt and shakes just make you want to hurl. I crushed my Protein goal today bc I added a Protein Shake snack. Do you know the next step? If you do you could cautiously try it or call your doc and let them know you feel you need to bc you’re so weak. It’s not a hard requirement for all vsgs to go so long on liquid but they may have their reasons.I would never have survived liquids without yogurt. I was eating 3 a day to avoid extra shakes. I can do a shake a day. Any more than that is too much thick sweet drink.

Approved!
Congratulations! Such a great moment...July 22 will be here in one hot second ??

Sense of smell heightened
Has anyone else had this experience? I’m two weeks post op and have noticed what I guess is my own smell of ketosis which is really icky but omg. I was in the grocery today and passed a guy in the produce department and nearly threw up. He reeked of something so offensive I thought I would gag. Then a woman with perfume on. Then today, my son breathed on me after he had spaghetti and I almost threw up. That’s the smell that nearly made me crazy in the store. It was garlic. But it was beyond gross. Like the strongest most rancid smell I’ve ever smelled. And the other day my MIL smelled like rancid onion. After several incidents, i don’t think it’s these people as much as it is me. Did anyone else develop the smell of a bloodhound? This is worse than when I was pregnant??

I’m enjoying my first egg ? right now. The most amazing scrambled egg I have ever tasted and I think I can probably only eat half. I’m one happy girl tho.

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Girl, let me tell you what is about to feel even more surreal for everyone who’s got a date coming soon. I just ate the tiniest cup of tomato soup, like literally maybe 1/3 cup, and I am stuffed. ?

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
V-8 and I rimmed the glass with celery salt. It was heavenly. ? Chicken and beef broth, tomato soup, strained French onion from the can. I also did creamy tomato which is a little higher cal but I was much fuller from it sooner so ate very little.

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Lol me too? I didn’t have to do a pre op liquid diet at all except the day before surgery. I don’t know how some of these guys lasted 4-6 weeks on clears and liquid. I’m impressed. They told me I would go from clear to full liquid when I was discharged then do liquids a week then purée. After surgery they told me they’re changing the plan to 2 weeks of full liquid. I wasn’t mentally prepared for 2 weeks?

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Ok so I was sleeved 6/4. You sound just like me. I only took two nausea pills after I left the hospital. Had no issue with fluids. Took me about 5 days and by 1 week I felt great. Only issue I’m having is mental bc I’m tired of a liquid diet.

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
I will go look for them. I thought Walmart carried the Premier clear but they didn’t have any. What’s the best place everyone is finding variety? I bought a ton of yogurt, soups and sugar free pudding. I’m so ready for my next step. I’ve been lucky I guess. Had very little nausea. No vomiting. Just some tightness when I go a little fast. Just some pain in my incisions LOL I have follow up Friday.

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
I did. I’ve had no issue hitting fluids from the beginning. I’m struggling with choking down the Protein Shakes but I’m trying to get to 60-70 every day and making it. Need to go buy the clear drinks today because shakes are too sweet and thick right now. Can not wait to be able to chew something again? I thought I was about to lose my mind with hunger two days ago and I made grits bc they were on my list. I ate too many a little too fast was too full to eat anything for 12 hours and still don’t really feel that hunger again two days later. I didn’t get sick but I got a great preview of what to expect later.

5 days post op—the things they did not tell me
Yes the shakes are not my fave. But it’s the artificial sweetener aftertaste that is constant in my mouth right now that’s killing me. I’ve been doing blended shakes to make them more drinkable but I can’t wait to have some better options bc sweets are not my thing and fake sweets are definitely not! Counting the days, which feel long but really aren’t.

Coffee 2 months out??
I was sleeved on 6/4 and was given coffee the next morning. I only had a few sips and still don’t finish a whole cup but I’m only 5-6 days in and have had a little every day.
