ur What Tests Did You Need Pre-Op?
I am self-pay. I used my labwork that was done by my OB/GYN during my annual physical (blood count and electrolyte panel). I then had to have an EKG done which was already done by my cardiologist within the last week or two. Thats it!!

Surgery Center vs. Hospital
I am having my done at the surgery center too. I am not worried. The staff at your center should be just as qualified as the hospital staff would be. Usually at the surgery center the nurse to pt ratio is not as high. They have all the same qualifications and should be able to handle any emergency. In the hospital I work at, the surgery team handles everything themselves. They do not call the ER for help and do well taking care anything that happens. I would mention to the staff the bad experience and anxiety you have about the gallbladder visit and they should be more aware. Good Luck!

Lovenox anyone have to self inject for 2 weeks ?
Congratulations on your approval and upcoming surgery. Join all the May bandsters under support groups, it is a great bunch! Lovenox is used to prevent blood clots which is a post surgery complication. I have not heard of any other lap band person have it done but common in other major surgeries. You may call and ask your doctor, it could have to do with prior medical conditions you have. It is just like injecting insulin, you give it in you love handles but it will cause some bruising. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to send me a private message I am an RN and use it all the time. Good Luck!!

Pre-op diet and weight loss prior to surgery
I was wondering if anyone else is struggling with their pre-op diet. I have been so good and following this diet but after 1 week I don't see a big difference. All of the scales I have weighed on are different readings. My home scale and the dr office scale was +/- 5 lbs. I am so afraid that if I dont loose any weight he wont do the surgery. I was thinking of turning in my H&P and lab work directly to his office tomorrow so that I could jump on the scale and figure out the difference between the two.

9 days to go
Sarah8714 commented on Sarah8714's blog entry in Moving from the 2's to the 1's for better health and well-beingI am trying to post daily on this great journey to the ideal BMI. I am on my 4 night stretch in the ER so it has been difficult to keep the days until clear. The diet went better the last 24 hours. I think I figured out the difficulty with the diet and my work schedule. The plan they have is for one who sleeps at night and works days. I tend to be eating my carbs before bedtime and then having 2 shakes together during the rough active part of my day. DH asked for donuts yet again this morning :rolleyes2: but I did well and did not have a bite. He bought a lean steak for lunch/dinner and we shared it YUMMY!! Been a non eventful evening so far...

End of Day 4, will I wake up full for day 5!
Sarah8714 commented on Sarah8714's blog entry in Moving from the 2's to the 1's for better health and well-beingBefore I go to bed for my sleep in the batcave, Here is how day 4 went. I am miserable. Andrew woke up Sunday morning teething at 7am. Dealt with a grouchy terrible 2 who only wanted to use the new cordless vacuum or throw balls at the dog. My plans for childcare drop off changed at the last minute so there was no dinner at Luby's for a quick salad and chicken breast I was so desiring all day long. I detoured for a quick salad and chicken breast from the mexican place we ate the other day. I skipped the cheese too and only ate approx 6 chips with salsa, not the whole dish like usual. :blushing: I even ordered the nonfat skinny latte for work. Of course it was gone before crew change was done. Busy as usual, had a vent pt, conscious sedation of a 2 year old, terminal cancer pt.... The others ordered Chilli's :rolleyes2: I said NO! and then had my shake. I was more worried about my next meal then anything else. I was counting down the hours till the cafeteria opened for oatmeal! I even clocked out and ate in the cafeteria, 1 serving of each - scrambled eggs and oatmeal (plain). I feel like STARVING right now.

I Need Everyones Opinion....
Unfortunately it sound like to keep him happy that attending the party will be the best thing. If it was me, I would bring my own stuff and pretend to be drinking more than you are... Long Island Teas with no alcohol, etc. I would tell them you just went out for a huge meal before arriving too. Or hold your stomach and say "I dont feel good" and frown. I am not good a "white: lies.

Day 3 of pre-op diet. Surgery in 12 days
Sarah8714 commented on Sarah8714's blog entry in Moving from the 2's to the 1's for better health and well-beingI am starving today!! It is day 3 and I am famished. DH brought home Shipley's donuts for everyone. I did good and had 2 scrambled eggs with some salsa over it. I am still hungry and it is only 11am. No cheating was done on Day 2 :rolleyes2:. I had a wonderful salad that was a grilled chicken breast on top of shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and avacado with salsa for dressing. I ate 5 chips only! I did well with the shakes but woke up HUNGRY last night. I need some snack ideas or this will not work! I am counting down the minutes for a shake... I keep on getting on the scale if I am tempted to eat anything. Is that a bad idea. Of course my scale was off from the doctor office too, it was 3 lbs lighter I think. It has a mind of its own. :confused2:

Introducing the May Bandsters
I have tried to write this 3 times now but my laptop keeps messing up at the end. Hi! My name is Sarah, 36 yrs old. I am scheduled for surgery on the 15th of May. I have been married for 8 years, my DH is very supportive and states he did not marry me based on weight. We have a 20month old boy which we spent years TTC with lots of $$$ on infertility. I live north of Houston, TX. I am a registered nurse working 3-4 nights a week. I have always been overweight pretty much all my life. I have been down to 140 and a size 10 and was still considered overweight and needing to loose some pounds. I was at my ideal BMI and was very active in sports!! I felt like it was a no win situation. When I was my thinnest I was still looked down upon so why bother.

Scheduled for May? What Day?
Please add me!!! I want to join. My date is 5/15

I'm getting nervous...

1st Day home - Story for upcoming banders
I am glad it went well. Thanks for posting... Let me know how recovery goes. I am set for the 15th and took 5 nights off.

Did you tell your dr before the banding?
I go next week to get my H&P filled out by my PCP before my surgery on the 15th. I need a med refill anyways. It was recommended by my cardiologist to have it done. He said that unless I drop some major weight I will never get off my BP meds. I have to be on birth control with my class "C" bp med so it is a catch 22. I have tried for over a year to loose with no success other than the same 10-15lbs yo-yo'ing.

Conroe or Willis Tx Support Group
Hi Marlene, I was wondering where you had been hiding and was about to call you... I work no set schedule, it all depends on DH rotating 24 hour schedule so it varies to reduce the need for babysitting. I work that stretch for the 24th but I can meet up in the morning between Huntsville/Montgomery like las time. I would be able to meet up for lunch if the dates fits my schedule. I am home today with Andrew, all of our plans got canceled  for today. I hate to get out but I need help with this pre-op diet stuff. I bought a magic bullet for the shakes but need skim milk, we have whole at home for the baby. I have no fruit but bananas right now. I was so confused that I just had a cup of coffee for breakfast. I guess it is off to the grocery store....

coffee and pre-op diet?
I am drinking my cup of coffee right now seeing if there are any suggestions for breakfast... I am on the pre-op diet which is 2 shakes a day, breakfast is 2 of the following - yogurt, cereal, toast, bagels, waffles, muffins, eggs, or oatmeal. 2nd meal is 1 serving of lean meat and 2 servings of a green veggie. There was no talk of coffee but to avoid high sugar foods, carbonated beverages, and fats.
