I have paid my Surgeon $790(before my first appt with him) and the hospital called and said I would have to pay them $1300, 10 days before surgery... my date is October 15th. The payments will satisfy my Out-Of-Pocket(OOP) expense with my insurance for the year. Once OOP is met, insurance will pay 100% of my medical expenses... for the remainder of this year

So i had my RNY on 8/28. Met with my nutritionist yesterday and was told tea was fine just watch the sugar. I started drinking Snapple diet peach with only 5 calories. I feel fine. Never been a tea drinker but it taste yummy lol. I think every dr makes up their own rules. You’ll learn what’s best for your body as you go along. Your stomach won’t be shy to let you know! Good luck with everything!

Auroragirl4489 reacted to ARCarnes in Nov 5. Surgery Date - w/ last minute switch to RNY
Hello All - I just received my surgery date Thursday - set for November 5th. I am truly excited and looking forward to it. Up until this week, I had been planning to have the VSG; however, after reviewing all of the test/lab results - my doctor suggested the RNY. It appears that it will help me lose more weight - which I am at 360 now - and get rid of the co-morbidities that I suffer from (high blood pressure and Type 2 Diabetes). I have research the VSG extensively, but now find myself having to switch what I know to the RNY. Does anyone have information that they would like to share - Do's and Don'ts - Suggestions - FYIs, etc. I would appreciate any and all assistance.
Also, I was told by the nutritionist that I wouldn't be able to drink coffee or tea after the surgery. I was prepared to drink Decaf coffee & tea - but didn't realize I would have to give it up fully. Is there anyone else who has had the RNY who still drinks decaf coffee and/or tea?
    Thanks to all.

I think we have to give it time. This is not going to be a quick fix. Look at what you posted 14lbs in a week that’s amazing!

Auroragirl4489 reacted to kat__p in I am so fed up with doctors!! I just want to be treated as a person!
UPDATE: I went to have an upper GI done on Tuesday and my whole abdomen, stomach, colon all were still full of barium contrast from 2 MONTHS ago when I had a CT scan!!!! It was all stuck to my insides. My surgeon had me drink magnesium citrate for 2 days and basically poop my insides out (that's what it felt like, anyway.) I saw him yesterday and he's concerned. He has scheduled me for another upper GI and he said that if things didn't improve he would refer me to a colorectal surgeon to check if my colon is functioning correctly. I asked about the pelvic exam and he's scheduling that too. I'm not gonna lie I'm scared but at least my surgeon is aware and treating me and I trust him completely. Wish me luck you guys. Thank you all for all your kind words. <3

I’m almost a week away from surgery! Extremely ready and excited! I’m 26 years old and I’m just beyond happy to start this new journey.

I guess what brought me here is this: last night laying in bed I asked my boyfriend if he had faith in me through this process. After a LONG pause he basically said “maybe”. He’s apologized this morning but that doesn’t take away from the fact that the closest person to me doesn’t really think I’m going to do a great job.

Just looking at all of your positive thoughts has helped me stop being upset; so thank you! I hope it works out for me as it did for everyone on the posts I’ve been reading!!

Definitely agree! I didn’t use anything in my bag except my tooth brush, my face wash and my chapstick because i didn’t like the lip balm the hospital provides. My phone may have went in the charger but i was not thinking about that phone 😂. Congratulations on your surgery welcome

Ok...I just need to say this because it bothers me. I've been on Bariatricpal for almost 5 months, I read a lot of posts and I've received a wealth of information here and truly appreciate members taking out time to answer questions, attaching research articles to back up their statements, comforting, encouraging and the list goes on. Some of the people that are asking for help DO NOT EVEN have the decency to respond back to the people that are taking their time out to answer questions, some just post a question and seem to dissapear?? Really. I really don't give advice here because I'm still a work in progress and I am one of those that do ask questions from time to time and I really appreciate each and everyone of you for taking the time out to respond back when you are just as busy as the rest of us are. PLEASE PEOPLE do not just be takers....show your appreciation to the ones responding by at least acknowledging that you did read their response...These are people that have been through the process and understand it!! we are tying to get to where they are.
I APPRECIATE YOU!! You know who you are

Lol i don’t remember much either. I know I remember my Dr saying hello in the OR, finding out I was getting a catheter soon as I went to sleep (not happy) and then the anesthesiologist saying I’m about to get sleepy. Next thing I know people kept calling my name. I remember my mom coming to the post op area and I was crying because they only let her stay for a minute. Then the nurse kept saying push your pain button but I was in so much pain and so drugged up to even lift anything lol. I remember the guy in the curtain over being loud AF trying to take his gown off and the nurse kept telling him he can’t do that lol. Next thing I know I woke up in my room crying AGAIN but this time my mom was on the couch.

Hey, I’m Joey I’m from New Jersey. I’m probably one of the youngest people to be on this forums as I just turned 17 at the start of this month. I was 390 pounds at my highest, 375 pounds in the day of surgery (08/28/18) and am currently 345 lbs. at the moment I’m super worried because this morning I gained a pound for the first time. I do pretty heavy exercise 2 or 3 times a day and pretty much eat the way I’m supposed to with a very few modifications. If anything I’m eating less then I’m supposed to. Why did I gain a pound? Also how much 16.9 oz Water bottles should I have a day and how long should it take me to finish one? Thank you!

I hate them, hate them, hate them. I don't like sweets, for one thing. (If they made a nacho-chip flavored Protein Shake, it might be different!) I hate the aftertaste, the grittiness, etc. etc. etc.
    ARGH.

My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. I have done a lot of research and am really excited. Just wondering if anyone has some lessons learned to share. Is there anything you would recommend doing before the surgery? Anything that you thought would be helpful to have at the hospital? Or anything you learned after the surgery that would be helpful to know or do?

I was asked the same question but at my preop appt. Never said anything before!! I was so irritated but I know it was all out of love and possibly scared for me. I simply said if it was that easy I would not be here. I know I made the right decision for me.
