Day 5 post op for me. Feeling much better today. The pain seems to improve a little each day. I had some Trader Joe’s butternut squash Soup for lunch and it was a nice game changer! I’m on full liquids for another week and a half. I am keeping my eye on the prizes: weighloss AND cottage cheese and eggs, lol! I’m tiring quickly of the Protein Shakes. I think today is the first day that I am feeling the most “normal” since surgery. I still have pain but stopped the Percocet and went to just Tylenol. I’ve walked 15 mins and headed out soon to do another 15. My energy level is till pretty low so I walk in 15 minute increments.

I did. They weren’t aware of the hernia until they got in, and that’s where the majority of my pain has come from. It was difficult to breathe at first, but day 3 post- op and everything is starting to feel better.

Ok so figured I would update here. The dr canceled my surgery.
He made me go back to the dietician.
He then rescheduled it for next Wednesday. 6/20th

I’m out! So far not too bad. Incision pain managed by meds. The worst part is the gas pains. I want to get out of the bed to relieve them. Oh and my mouth is soooo dry but no liquids til tomorrow. I can’t wait to start this next part of my journey!

The research group that I'm with believes that eating very low calories for too long...will set you up for a bad metabolic reset and more rebound weight gain at five years post op. You don't want a starvation metabolism. You want a hot burning furnace that supports lots of activity, healthy muscles and exercise.
We are encouraged to eat 1200 calories per day as soon as possible after surgery. I've eaten 1200 calories daily since my third week post op. I feel terrific. Am almost to goal.
It's important to listen to the professionals. Their advice is based on a broader perspective than just our own. And they've seen the consequences of lots of well intentioned nutritionally disastrous efforts.
Be safe, be well, and best wishes!

I have never thought I would ever struggle to gain weight. I had MGB 2.2 years ago and had a healthy stable weight for so long. Last month I’ve been battling divorse and within 4 weeks I lost 7 kg’s and I’m at a scary weight right now. I ordered a pack of nestle boost very high calorie drink with 530 calories per pack. Thought that might solve the problem! It says it’s lactose and gluten free but it gave me the worst diarrhea ever. Apparently the fat content is very high! Now does anyone know how I can increase my calorie intake and gain weight back! Does anyone know of a high calorie drink that is MGB friendly! I am unable at the moment to just eat more so I need calorie packed drinks

I had a stroke of luck with the small lunches and co-workers. I told everyone I had gallbladder removed plus a hiatal hernia repair (with the latter being true). As it turns out one of my colleague's husband actually did have the gall bladder removal plus hernia repair. She immediately said "oh you can't eat then, you must have been on liquids for awhile. Are you eating solids yet?" Turns out you can't eat after that! Cha-ching! My alibi confirmed independently!

I’m just going to brag a bit. My wife had been an angel. And I’m kind of a pain in the butt as a patient.

As relieved as I was to wake up post op to her I was even more reassured as I waited to be wheeled into Surgery that she’d be there afterwards.

A good partner makes such a difference. Cheers to those that support us!

My hubby has been amazing, too. My young adult daughter and bestie have been incredible cheer leaders as well. Even my Mom...who was scared to death about the surgery and tried to talk me out of it....is 100% supportive now and has been expressing that she wishes my other heavy sibling would consider the surgery. (she would like to see the same improvement to his health concerns that I've experienced)
But yeah...wow...getting through this process without support would be brutal. I feel for everyone who is going it alone. So hard!
Wishing everyone the love and support they deserve.

I had surgery June 6, 2018 and I was extremely miserable the first two days. But my husband took off work and made sure I got up to walk even if only for 2-3 minutes per hour. He bought any and every Fluid that I thought may stay down. He never complained, nor made me feel like I was over exaggerating the pain.
Yesterday we actually went on (two) 20-30 minute walks and I was able to keep all liquids down. He has been encouraging me and very good with our son. I see so many post about partners not being on board. That’s so awful and I wish they would just support the journey. I don’t know how I would’ve made through this without my husband.

I’m about 4 months post op. Went to a wedding this past weekend had 2 glasses of wine — very slowly — had little to no effect on me. Has anyone else had drinks occasionally post op??

    Welcome to the losers bench.
The gas pain was the 2nd worse part of the process (1st being the 2 weeks on the preop diet).
Hope your gas goes soon, I walked a lot and there was lots of burping and passing gas for a few days. It’s a very musical experience lols

The only requirements I had was a 2 week Optifast and quit smoking.
The pre diet was not a rousing success, there were a few food farewells. My surgery date was 3 weeks after my first consult with the nutritionist. The surgeon had a cancellation and I was lucky enough to be there when it happened.
How that will work out in my post life... I’m hopeful. At the moment I’m having no issues on the liquid phase. I sometimes think I’m hungry, I’m not, so I distract myself for a few minutes and the moment passes.
Prior to looking into WLS I did do a lot of ‘me’ work with a therapist to understand my habits & behaviours, that’s given me some tools in addition to the WLS
Will see where I am in 6 months.

Made it out of sleeve/hernia surgery yesterday afternoon. Shoulder pain from the air is the worst. I sleep two hours sitting up and then walk. I was up and walking two hours after surgery. I told my surgeon that I changed my mind after the surgery because it hurt pretty bad. I have not even looked at incision sites yet, hurts to breath deep and shoulder pain are the issue. I know the hernia adds to the recovery time, but I am hoping this passes soon. I already have 2440 steps from 1:00am until now from pacing in the hotel room. Trying to let my husband get some sleep. I kept telling him to go do stuff, but he didn’t leave my side. We go back to the surgical center at noon for follow up and then we head back home. Thanks to everyone that posted their experiences, it helped with understanding what was going on. They really need to figure out a way to vacuum seal us when they are done! Also, took oral (melting tab) morphine after waking up because of the National opioid crisis. The crisis being that IV morphine isn’t available due to hurricane.

My gallbladder is out, and they managed it laparoscopically, against their predictions!
The surgeon (not same as my RNY surgeon) said on my waking “the surgery was relatively simple because you are slender”.
I could have kissed him. With tongue 😁😁😁😁💋

I had Omega loop mini gastric bypass.
6 more days of fluids. Had nausea, and stomach still quite sore, but ondansetron and buscopan are helping a little.
40g of Protein each day, filled with two opti shakes (or a shake and a soup) plus some diet cordial.
See the GP in the morning and get some pathology done before I see the surgeon and dietitian for follow up next week

Everyone has been so amazing and supportive, I’m sorry it has taken me so long to respond my life after surgery has changed for the better! I am working full time and so active and happy! Hollymarie36 update me please on how you are doing, I am sorry you are having to go thru this, it is a extremely emotional process I and my husband have decided he will get a vasectomy this month since we would hate to have to go thru something like that again. I have many friends who got pregnant at the same time and are half way thru the pregnancy now and it is a reminder but I know we made the best choice we could.

hello!! I was wondering if you told your surgeon? and if so, did they test for the HCG as well? I'm in the same situation now. Except, I'm having an abortion on tuesday and the surgery is scheduled for June 15th.
