I'm a believer in trusting your gut. My husband was the first guy I ever dated longer than 6 weeks. We got married on my 30th birthday, so I'd been around a while. We were engaged at 11 weeks and married at 9 months, only because the Catholic church required a 6 month waiting period. Next anniversary will be our 30th.

Pre-op Tips & Tricks
Congrats on your upcoming surgery. This is the time to make your transition easier. Get off all caffeine. You don't want caffeine headaches with the pain of surgery. Stop drinking all sodas, even decaf ones. Start drinking lots of water/non-cal decaf liquids. Walk daily. Start logging your foods to find a method that works best for you. Collect some post-op recipes to try. Take some full-body photos of yourself. It really helps to see how far you've come. Get your measurements. Again, this is really great at times when your scale is being a b!tch ? Good luck!

Approved for my gastric sleeve!
Bummer, that would have been an easy fix.

Approved for my gastric sleeve!
Are you just now getting off caffeine? That can cause brutal headaches. If so, let yourself have a half-cup here and there for a couple days to ease the withdrawal. Congrats on your approval! It is life-changing!

How noble of you! Sacrificing for the sake of family ?

Good luck. In my area, you can attend support group at any area hospital, not just the one where your surgery was performed.

New and completely lost
In my experience, the first appointment was pretty low-key. They take measurements, talk to you about your goals, etc. Until the insurance approval comes back, they don't do too much.

Do you go to any support group meetings? I find them to be very helpful.

@sillykitty I'm proud of you for broaching the subject. It obviously means a lot to you. Just don't rush him into it. Give him time to adjust to the idea. Now he knows that's one of the steps on the commitment path. @Biddy zz Congrats! Hitting a milestone always matters! That's awesome!

Hunger or acid?
Try one Tums when you feel it. Chew it super well. If the "hunger" goes away, it was acid. You may need stronger acid-reducers.

She also posts weekly food plans built off her recipes. I love them. Can't wait until I can eat more of her foods!

How many ounces at 2 months?
Wow, that's impressive. I never would have made it through the meatball alone at 8 months.2-2.5 oz of protein is my limit. I have separate meals of just veggies or I wouldn't get any at all. (OK with my NUT)

How many ounces at 2 months?
Are you eating the dense protein first? If so, 8 ounces sounds high. If you're eating other things before the protein, like sliders, your capacity is almost unlimited.

Losing more than the expected 40-60% ?
They are giving you the averages. Some people don't lose much weight, others do very well, far beyond "average". They just can't predict ahead of time where you will land and they don't want to give you unreasonable expectations. My doctor said he would consider my surgery a success if I got down to 191 lbs. in a year. I'm at 168 after 8.5 months, and I am a post-menopausal woman. Your success depends on a lot of things: how well you stick to the post-op diet, how well you hydrate, how much you exercise and, of course, your own body. Good luck!

My favorite website for recipes is skinnytaste.com. She re-creates traditional recipes in a healthier way. The site is not bariatric-centered, however, the recipes are great and she includes all the nutritional info.
