Are you taller, now?
I don't know about actually getting taller. But my mom just told me today "You know the more you lose, the shorter you look." How depressing. I'm only 5'3 1/2 anyway.

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
I was happy to see this post. It has been really encouraging to see some of the people that have lost over 100 lbs. I have so far to go, but at least for once I've started. I've had great difficulty losing weight. I've had some weird things happen since surgery (reactions to meds., hormones, etc.). When I went to my Dr., she said you finally have a metabolism. I don't remember my BMI, but it was hi. Today it felt so good to have a 3x top fit instead of a 6x.

Poll: How do you get fills?
Maybe the whole point is how deep your port is. My port is deep the Dr. finds it under x-ray. I've seen the needle he uses and it is the size of a knitting needle. I can't imagine doing it without the lidocaine. The lidocaine barely pinches and then I don't feel a thing. The only thing that bothers me is the slight sucking feeling when he pulls the needle out.

Im losing my hair
It is my understanding that hair loss for lap band people does happen, but only to a minority not everyone. I know it is extremely common in R&Y, but not as common with lap band. Anyone else told this?

Good Band - Fast (Home or Restruant) Food Ideas
I know this doesn't sound good but it actually tastes great to me and has really saved me. I take an instant Cream of Wheat (I make it with 2/3 cup milk & couple tsp. peanut butter, micro. 2 minutes, add cream of wheat packet and micro. 1 more minute.) I stir it up and put it in little half cup containers. Then I top it with different flavors of yogert. 1 thing of yogert per 1 packet instant Cream of Wheat. I grab one out of the fridge and take it with me. It usually stays good all day. I don't know how long yogert is supposed to stay out, but I've never had a problem. If I'm eating it at home I micro. a few seconds so the Cream of Wheat will mix with the yogurt. There is a lot of protein and it satisfies my craving for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

February 2006 bandsters unite!!
This is the first time I've seen this. I hope it's not to late to join. I had my 2nd fill this week. I'm not totally sure yet if I have any restriction or not. So far it's been all will power - yuck! It's nice to see people on the same level as me. Please add me to your group. Banded by Dr. Cudjoe, Alma on 2/14/06 10cc band.

My first NSV's
I've had trouble for years fitting in cars and their seat belts. I have my current car because I fit best behind the wheel and I had to have a seat belt extension. The other day I got in and without thinking about it went to move the seat forward. I used to bairly fit! It is totally annoying when I ride with my mother. The seat belt doesn't fit and the stupid thing won't stop dinging. This week I thought, I'll just try it. The seat belt went on with extra room! No more worrying about being pulled over by the cops. It felt so good and I've just started.

How exactly do you feel restriction?
I just had my 2nd fill. Occasionally, when I drink I feel like my esophogus hurts. I haven't tried a lot of food yet. I tried a hamburger tonight and ate the whole thing. The first bite I took was to big and felt weird, but I was able to eat the whole thing with fries (a disappointment). (This was an experiment to see if my band would feel tight not my normal eating plan.) My band never hurt. The only sensation I have had is pain in my neck. What does it feel like when your band works? Do you feel it immediately? or later start pbing? How do you know restriction is working?

Im losing my hair
I have previosly lost hair due to medications. My Dr. told me to take extra Zinc and it stopped the hair loss. Although, it may not stop it she said it should also help with the weight loss hair issue. I can definitely tell a difference in my hair and nails when I take it every day and when I don't. I just went to Wal-Mart and bought a cheap Zinc pill.

Taking Suggestions for NEW LBT Features!
Maybe there is a place and I haven't found it, but I would like a spot to go to find the definitions of all the abbreviations used. What is lol, nsv, pb's, etc. As a new person, it can be very frustrating and you feel stupid not knowing.

Changes in the way you react to medication?
I haven't lost enough weight to make a difference, but I have noticed differences in the way I react to medication. Has anyone else experienced this? Some seem to be much stronger, especially pain or migraine (Axert, Maxalt). Things that used to make me sleepy now keep me awake and the opposite.

introduction
I did a lot of research because I take a lot of medication for health issues in addition to IBS. My family physician would not give me a recomendation for the gastric bypass. I am so glad I went with the band. The IBS is actually better. I really think if you try hard to diet you can lose weight quite quickly. I know many people who have had the bypass and now tell me they totally regret it. They wish they had the band. I see Dr. Cudjoe in Alma, MI. I am very pleased with him. He does require $1000, but as your insurance pays, you get it back. To me the safety of the band far outways the faster rate (for some) of the bypass.

Michigan Physicians
I received lapband surgery from Dr. Cudjoe. I am very happy with him. He seems a little shy, but he really cares about his patients. He takes extra precautions from what I have seen about other Dr.'s on this site. I have had no problems with his office staff, but have heard from others that they are not the friendliest. There is also a great support group through his office.

I have no restriction and I've been doing pretty well so far, but lately, I'm tending to eat more and more. I'm still eating less than I used to, but I can feel myself losing ground. I've been thinking about going back to just liquid for a while. Anyone else experience this? Any susggestions?

Splenda is not being pulled off the shelves
I know this probably sounds weird to you, but I've never heard of DaVinci. What is it and where do you get it?

1 fill port feels like a rock.
I had my first fill and every since then my port feels like a rock. Is this normal? Is it possible that the liquid went into the port and not the band? My Dr. does the fill under x-ray. Anyone else experience this? No restriction yet, but my Dr. says it can take several fills to feel.

Soooooooooo tired!
I was banded approximately a month & half before you and was so tired for a lont time. I had previously had my gallbaldder removed with no problems. I was so tired with the band surgery, I had trouble going back to work. It took maybe a month. Just today, a friend remarked that she can't believe how much more energy I have. I think it really started to change when I started back in on actual food (particularly protien). I pureed a lot of chicken/turkey with cottage cheese. This phase to will pass. Keep at it.

question about when it gets hard
I have only had one fill. So far, I can eat anything I want. The only time I have had problems is the couple of times I over ate. I later felt too full, buy no pain. I can't wait to get more fills.

question for the ladies
Having it during my monthly posed no problems other than my anxiety which proved totally uncalled for.

headaches help
If it's just normal headaches, liquid tylenol. I have sever migraines. There are several perscription meds. that disolve on the tongue or come in liquid. If you're having more than an occasional headache, I would see a Dr.

Where Can I buy clear protein?
Personally, I like Isopures grape, blue raspberry & pineapple orange bannana best. I tried one of each. The ones I didn't like I mixed with a little 100% juice or Gator Aid to down (you could also add Crystal Light) because I didn't want to waste them. I then went in and bought larger quantities of the ones I like. I don't know about all GNC's, but mine offers a card you can purchase then you get 20% the 1st week of each month. They are also selling the Isopure at buy 5 get 1 free (this is actually cheaper than a case of one kind).

Where Can I buy clear protein?
I use Isopure zero carb liquid (already prepared bottles) not poweder. It does not contain Bovine Serum but whey protein from milk. It has really helped me. Some taste better than others and a few I put just a small amount of 100% juice in. They are great for me. One bottle has 40g of protein and I can take it and go all day. I buy mine at GNC. I believe it's Nature's Best brand. I also bought things ahead and found out I didn't need them. As they were unopened, GNC took them back with no problem.

What exactly does PB stand for?
I know this sounds like a stupid question and I have a fairly good idea, but everyone uses the abbrevation. So, what exactly is a PB?

1st fill. Do I have a problem?
I had my 1st fill at about 6 weeks after surgery. Before, when I was laying down, I could feel the port below my main stitch line. I was pretty much over being sore and haven't tried to feel the port for a while. Now, I can feel the port even while standing and it is above the stitch line and feels harder. It is also sore again. Not overly painful, just like it was after the stitches the outside stitches healed. I notice it if I brush up against it and sometimes it burns a little. Is this normal? I have lost 10 lbs in the past month, maybe it's just closer to the surface?
